Quick question RE: Basel game.. I've just bought tickets for me and my gf in Park Lane upper, gangway 46... is that usually part of the away supporters section? I'm guessing that area has been given to Spurs fans for this game as Basel don't have that many tickets allocated.. or are we gonna be sitting with the away fans??

Wanted to know this myself. Anybody know?

Lads Holtby can't tackle - he runs around and fouls people and gives away stupid frees. For now, he can't be given any responsibility of playing in the middle of midfield - would be a liability. In the future though, perhaps

------------------------ Friedel ------------------------
Naughton ---- Caulker ---- Vertonghen ---Assou-Ekotto
------------- Carroll ----------- Parker ---------------
Lennon ---------------- Bale ----------------- Holtby
------------------------ Siggy -------------------------

- Carroll to give Dembele a rest.

- Holtby comes in on the left to see how he does but can be very fluid with Bale.

- Caulker in for Dawson to be safe with his hamstring.

- Verts has to play just as Bale does nowadays. Way too valuable not to. He's our best attacker at this time next to Bale.

- Friedel starts if Lloris is healthy and ready to go against Everton. Hell, even if he's not he might start anyway.

- Naughton over Walker is something that sort of sucks considering Naughton was bad (albeit at LB) and Walker was generally good against Swansea.

- Siggy up top?? Whoaaaaaa, Snarf you crazy, Snarf. Yeah, but seriously. Good at playing others in, tall, good in the air, helluva strike. Knows how to make space. I don't see how it'd hurt at this point. Give him a role similar to how Michu operates and see what develops. It could flourish it could tank. Our current strikers are, as Patches O'Hoolahan once said, "as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop."

Freund to Sigi: "If you play in that position, then you've got to learn the five d's: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!" :playful:

<btw - there's only 1 "G" in Sigi> ;)

Last few europa games away fans have been given half the park lane lower but the upper has been home fans. League games away fans get the upper and lower.

I think we proved last round the best thIng is to win it in the home leg and basel won't give us as much trouble away that inter did.

Solid win at home is need.
I'd stick in Caulker for Dawson but play the rest as ull stength. If we get some early goals and settle I'd look to bring off Parker, Lennon/Bale and Vertonghen.

Strongest team for every game. Don't buy the "concentrate on the league" nonsense. Arsenal, Chelsea, utd and now city have just as busy a schedule year on year and still fight for top four. We need to keep giving 100% and we'll keep winning. If we are winning then the players won't care if its 2 games a week here on in. Besides we get a week off after Basel away now with the Chelsea game being moved.

This is correct and the atmosphere up there was brilliant against Inter.

I don't agree with the second bit though, because I think Basle are a better unit than Inter and will be much tougher than some people think on here.

My thinking was that if we have the lead after the first leg we'll be more decisive in the second, rather than disrespecting basel. I honestly believe if we had gone out for the goals we'd have got them and if we had set out to stop inter scoring we'd have done it but we were caught in the middle.

Really tricky decisions to be made for this one. We can't take Basel for granted and it would be good to take a lead and a clean sheet to Switzerland, but at the same time we have a massive game on Sunday which we simply have to win.

I think we should go with something like:

Friedel
Naughton Dawson Caulker Ekotto
Livermore Dembele
Lennon Bale Sigurdsson
Defoe
With Lennon and Dembele being taken off as soon as possible.
I think Parker struggles with two games in a week and we'll need him against Everton, but I don't feel confident enough to pair Carroll with Livermore, and don't think that Carroll and Dembele together is a good mix.
I'd love to rest Lennon and Bale but we simply don't have sufficient cover in those areas at the moment.

My god Defoe or Adebayor have GOT to start finding some form. In my mind if they do, we will finish in the top four and maybe even with the Europa, but if not it's highly unlikely. Adebayor up top for me, Livermore, Ekotto and Caulker in and hopefully we'll be able to give Carroll and Defoe a decent amount of time. We can do this.

I really don't think we could or should start Carroll and Huddlestone together in the midfield. I don't know much about Basel but to have got to this stage they must be pretty decent (and they put out Zenit) meaning that giving them a powder-puff midfield like that to play against would be very dangerous.

Be difficult to do that with a player that is only just making the bench recently.

Basel will be up and at us, playing Huddletron would be suicidal.

keep it the same as against Swansea, but Friedel in for Lloris as per usual

Need to keep the momentum going, massively important at this stage of the season
