Very unfair to say he has backed himself into a corner, which suggests something of a retreat.

He has simply come out and made the club's position clear. He knows that he has the finances and players' long term contracts in his favour to allow him to do exactly what he has stated and not sell the players.

Everyone seems to think that if a player hands in a transfer request ,a club has to sell but there are loads of examples where this isn't the case (Gareth Barry, Tevez) and there transfer values hardly went down !

Well, it mght be unfair to say he backed himself into a corner if the only possible interpretation was the interpretation was the one you choose to put to it - retreat. Backing into a corner can have other connotations - such as dogged, deternined resistance, being determined to resist to the last man (or Cosmic:grin:).

Maybe, I just meanthe has staked his reputation on us not selling any of our top players - and hence has no wriggle room, no room for interpretation or manouvre (hence backed into a corner). I woulnd't exclude dogged, deternined resistance, being determined to resist to the last man from that.

Lets get all over Rossi now Sanchez has gone to Barca. That'll be an initial statement of intent for Modric.

We should contact city and say 'bale and modric are yours for £250million'

Pre-empt the inevitable and end up with the funds for the new stadium.

I'm joking of course.

He doesn't want to us though does he.

According to Redknapp it was Villarreal who put the blocks on it in January (probably because they didn't have enough time to get a replacement):

"He tried something with Rossi. I think he offered £35 million in the end. It's hard to get top players unless you pay top money. You couldn't get Rossi because Villarreal don't want to sell you him."

"If Villarreal would've sold Rossi, we would've brought him in. I think he offered £35m in the end. Villarreal just didn't want to sell him."

I'm pretty sure you will find out that rossi does fancy spurs. His agent said he will not look further into any offer until he knows the truth in the barca interest. If they sign Sanchez then the Rossi deal is off. Great chance of getting him if that is the case and what a signal of intent to modric

I would love to get Rossi but we have to remember he signed a new 5 year contract with Villareal in January. Also they have just qualified for next years champions league so I can't imagine that spurs are very attractive to him right now.

We could just be more direct and ask them to build our new stadium for us.

and plus while he is a good striker and better what we have im still not convinced he is totally the type of striker we need.. we havesmall enough team as it is.. if we do sign rossi i can def see at least one other striker coming in as well.

With Levy wanting to buy promising players with a sell on value ... I think we should forget spending £35-40 million on Rossi or Aguero and instead sign up:

Leandro 12-14m
Wickham 10-12m
Benzema loan?
or
Adebayor 12-14m (as our marquee signing).
Oxlade-Chamberlain 10m?

After we get rid of the under-performers ... we'd have excellent prospect in Oxlade-Chamberlain who can cover Bale/Lennon. 2 promising, enthusiastic strikers in Leandro and Wickham and the quality targetman/pacey clinical finisher in either Benzema or Adebayor.

If Jenas and Palacios leave, we should then spend there income on Diarra or buy both Parker and Adam.

A squad of:

Gomes, Friedel, Cudicini (1 new young keeper if we can find one)
Walker, Corluka
Ekotto, Rose
Dawson, Gallas, King, Kaboul (1 new cb if Bassong leaves)
Lennon, Pienaar
Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain
Modric, Huddlestone, Sandro, Adam and Parker(or Diarra)
Van der Vaart
Adebayor/Benzema, Leandro, Wickham

I'm starting to think this is becoming a major problem. The way I understand our wage structure is if we had smaller squad then we would be able to offer higher wages? It seems to me that not many teams actually want our deadwood.

Puzzled that anyone on here could really question levy's judgement on anything to be fair (ramos excluded and everyone is allowed the occassional brain fart!), who did he replace as chairman...was it sugar or scholar...been a while hasnt it? I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times he has made a shocking decision that affected spurs adversely....When the pressure is really on him he comes up with the goods for 'the future well being of spurs'. Berbatov was an unfortunate situation but levy made a £20 million profit out of the situation.... Carrick was another unfortunate situation and he made a £15 million profit out of it....

If the very worst happens and Modric and Bale do end up offski...you can rest assured that it will be on spurs' terms and that they arent gonna walk away for peanuts.

I have a modicum of faith in harry in the transfer market .... I do however have a ridiculous amount of faith that anyone wanting to prise our best players off us will feel, after dealing with levy, that they have been genuflected with the bell end of a ragmans trumpet and will be limping as a result until well into the following transfer window..

Tell me this ... do you think every time ferguson meets levy that he thinks "ha hello mr. soft touch had you over didnt i!".... Think its more likely ferguson thinks "hope i never have to do a deal with that pirate again"

I really have faith.....It'll all be okay relax.... If we do get money harry will be allowed a minimal amount to spend .... levy will van der vaart the rest of it and his judgement aint too bad is it.

Anyone know what the delay with the o,hara announcement is due to?

maybe they are negotiating scott parker and levy doesnt want west ham knowing how much wolves paid for ohara because that could increase parker's value?

We wouldn't need both Leandro and Wickham. We'd be much better to have a wide forward alongside a marquee and a young #9. Wickham's horribly overrated too.

Rossi will only cost £30m this window and would be well worth it IMO. Get Adebayor and Leandro in for another £25m and then try to raise as much of that £55m back by selling 10 squad players.

I'd rather keep Palacios than have both (or either) Parker and Adam tbh.

Just heard tarbaat say that he has a 40pc sell on fee to spurs when he leave QPR. Great work by Levi, especially as he is being linked with a 10m move to Newcastle!

Excellent news. Makes the original fee seem reasonable. Good work Levy
