Very unfair to say he has backed himself into a corner, which suggests something of a retreat.
He has simply come out and made the club's position clear. He knows that he has the finances and players' long term contracts in his favour to allow him to do exactly what he has stated and not sell the players.
Everyone seems to think that if a player hands in a transfer request ,a club has to sell but there are loads of examples where this isn't the case (Gareth Barry, Tevez) and there transfer values hardly went down !
Well, it mght be unfair to say he backed himself into a corner if the only possible interpretation was the interpretation was the one you choose to put to it - retreat. Backing into a corner can have other connotations - such as dogged, deternined resistance, being determined to resist to the last man (or Cosmic:grin.
Maybe, I just meanthe has staked his reputation on us not selling any of our top players - and hence has no wriggle room, no room for interpretation or manouvre (hence backed into a corner). I woulnd't exclude dogged, deternined resistance, being determined to resist to the last man from that.
