If the 90k is correct then I can see some improved contracts for Toby, Christian, Eric and Jan this summer.

Good news if/when it happens.

I'd accept a fairly quiet summer of incomings, just a few clever additions rather than glamour signings, as long as we retain our core players and secure some of them to improved/extended deals that fends further interests.

I'm not gonna de-rail this thread with this discussion but I saw a stat somewhere saying that only once in the last 20 years (or something like that) have we not signed a single player before July 24th. Don't quote me on that cos I can't remember the dates but either way, there is no denying that we could've done a deal by now. I'm fine with it but I'd still like to see us strengthen before the games actually kick off in mid-august.

Earlier you get your transfer business done the better. Not for the benefit of fans but for the benefit of getting sorted and organised in pre-season training.

I don't disagree, and I like your stat, I just took issue with the "slow start" comment.

It's a big call saying it's going to be announced today. I would expect a media report saying we're 'closing in on a deal' or something similar before an official announcement.

I sort of think we've already had the pre-signing media rush this week? "Swansea ready to compromise". "Barkley wants Spurs" etc.

If its true 90k and possibly fee around 25-30m , then IMO its a great coup for us. We get a established PL player, English , with good creativity & end product.

He certainly adds depth to our squad. I cant see him flop like Sissoko. Even in a worst case, he has a terrible season, I can still see him going for same fee to another PL club, in 2 years time.

Fingers crossed on announcement, would be brilliant if he can join the preseason tour

There's a reason why it isn't in the Read Only and that's because I think he's come out with something like 2 snippets in 20 years and i'm not sure he's actually ITK, or if he was, wether he still is.

Personally, I would take an absolute lorry load of salt with this and if it comes off it'll be a nice surprise.

Assuming the moving a step closer was the agreement on his contract, not had any information in the press or from ITK as to whether we've managed to agree a fee with Everton however. Would be pleasantly surprised if this was done and announced today.

I read the ITK as not announcing Barkley deal, but merely announcing/leaking to media that his demands are not 150k a week.
