Can't believe some people are defending us if we don't get a CDM.

It's almost as crucial as bringing in a striker imo - Dier, Mason, Alli, Bentaleb is nowhere near good enough for a top 6 side.

Not sure where the DM's coming from though, now that the Witsel links have dried up...Hopefully some DM ITK is incoming

It's not the major panic you make out - we have lots of midfielders ... Dier (in his new role), Mason, Bentaleb, Dembele, Alli, Velikovic, Carroll, Winks ... We only need to play two in there. I personally accept we cannot compete for the top 4 until we have built the new stadium, so we're playing for top 6.

On the striker front I don't think either Son or N'Jie have really been signed to player there, and N'Jie in particular is likely to take a while before being a regular starter.

As for midfield, Bentaleb isn't a defensive midfielder for me, and Veljkovic and Dier are converted centre backs, neither of which is good enough in that position for us to rely on for the whole season.

And it's not as if it's just us fans being short-sighted on those positions. It's clearly something Poch feels we need as well.

While I agree that it is not ideal and we would definitely like to get in a new striker and a DM, there are options we have available that will tide us over better than splurging money on future dead weight. Milos, Dier and Bentaleb and Dembele to an extent are all able to operate effectively in a more defensive role. We have enough midfielders for the roles, just not quite the polished article for immediate reassurance. The striker role will probably rotate with Kane and in cups Chadli or Son. Both are better out wide I agree, and again ideally that will be the case as I feel SB will happen. Dum spiro spero... however we still have Lamela, who did quite ok compared to Eriksen in the stats dept. If he were not the record signing he was, then people would be much happier with him. We also have N'jie and Townsend for the flanks. While not ideal and I can see the Levy detractors all revving up, we are a smaller, younger, more effective 1st team than last year.

We're Spurs for goodness sake, the anticipation of glory and the dread of failure is the spice of life. No humdrum win all the time or lose all the time for us, we have potential for both success and disaster. The wonder of supporting Tottenham Hotspur for over 30 years has led to my inner child over developing and learning to count by looking at the grey in my hair. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I guess we'll be getting Sky's rock star introduction to Jim White this evening. I see BBC2 has a deadline day programme, but it's on during the afternoon. Still, the DDG saga is providing endless amusement.

Might be because that's when the tw shuts:rolleyes:

Is anyone else concerned that we haven't (seemingly) done anything to inject some creativity or passing vision into our midfield? A midfield selected from Mason, Bentaleb, Dier and Dembele is a beige as it gets and is much more of a concern to me than signing Berahinho.

Apart from Ali and Pritchard...?

How many pages this thread hit last year on deadline day? Feels pretty quiet in and around here for deadline day.

We could really do with something breaking regarding Berahino and/or Witsel, I think it's the fact its so quiet that is making everyone get on the verge of meltdown (or breakdown).

As long as he's not a ginger - don't want Poch's mission to put some soul back in our club disrupted.
Please let the Transfer window be the drama in here and not some silly need to pick a fight. None of the preceding posts were particularly edifying or worthwhile. There are many other things to be funny about.

I assume its a little like a mortgage in that you have to be able to prove you can pay

When you take out a mortgage you have to show you can pay it back not show you have the full amount in readies?

Anyone thinking Ayew and Song mortgage free?
