Well I've now been through yesterday's ITK and some of the discussion around it and I'm more confused than ever. We are having a director of football, except he won't be a director of football, he'll be a technical director. Meanwhile everyone seems to have very detailed knowledge of the job spec for a technical director and how this links in with the role of manager.

Despite all of this though, it looks increasingly like AVB is going to be the manager. Would be good to see an appointment announced today so that we can begin to move forwards from this daft last month or so.

I agree mate. I just want it decided and announced so we can move on and concentrate on the important things like dreaming about superstars we would never have a chance of signing. That's what summers for, not this manager crap

On SSN he said he thought it was a job too soon...

Sounds like the perfect man for the job. You don't want a #2 who is a yes man. You want someone who counters your weaknesses and challenges you.

Wilkins' criticism of AVB has primarily been a defence of the professionalism of the Chelsea players to whom he is loyal. I can see Wilkins as the perfect go between/good cop between AVB and our players.

Isn't that what Poyet was supposed to be with Ramos?

Some of the "ITK" so far seems very much opinion rather than ITK.

I have been taking extra salt pinches with all of the ITK in the last couple of weeks.

I think a lot of the ITK at the moment is low hanging fruit.

It's obvious who we are looking at and SOME ITKs just seem to be throwing their weight behind popular opinion.

And look at this... (Update 120) From Jacob

Who: Jacob
When: 17th June
Where: COYS

There is a LOT to be excited about.

Joe and Danny have BIG plans this summer.

Hold on tight!

What a load of crap. There is nothing ITK about this at all.

I could have said that...and you could argue that something will always happen that will be considered BIG.

eg.
1 big player signing,
a surprising departure,
stadium news,
Adiepf getting ITK right,
finding out who is Blue and Yelloe (joke).

Extra Salt needs to be applied to all this ITK folks. Some of it feels more akin to a Daily Mail headline.

Not bashing, just urging caution, I am sure I am not the only one!

I'm not sure what that was about. It seemed that we made our choice on Ramos' assistant rather than letting Ramos do it himself. Not sure that's the best plan to be honest.

The middle man in the Ramos negotiations was Tony Jimenez, ex-Chelsea security guard, property developer, footballing 'Mr Fixit' and big pal of Poyet's. Just a coincidence, of course.

Actually the issue I have with ITK like this is it is very subjective. It's all appreciated, but BIG things... by who's standards?

  • For me, that would = signing Mourinho as manager and a couple of properly recognised world class players.
  • For others it might be Blanc with a new club structure, a splash of french players.
  • Or Moyes, steadying ship, long term planning....
Then who knows if any of those plans come off or to what extent.

No, ITK like this gets us all running around in a tizz with various body parts in hand salivating like schoolboys with a copy of Esquire.

Then the reality of AVB or a Deschamps hits home and we wonder where the BIG plans were. Where's Pep? Where's MY bloody BIG plan.

All ITK is appreciated, but sometimes i wish it was more level headed and less sensationalist, like our own press.

R.

EDIT: and profuse apologies if that is coming across as ITK bashing, it wasn't meant to be!

"Where's MY bloody BIG plan."

Pissed myself laughing at the truth in that sentence! We've all got a "bloody BIG plan", haven't we :)

I'll post it here as well since we are on the subject in here. JJ has said that we won't be going back to a Director of Football like we had last time around. With regards to Sherwood's role at the club:

Don't think he will be Director of Football in charge of transfers etc. I think it has been mentioned technical director, which would mean he has no involvement on transfers etc. but would have the role of integrating the footballing principles from the new head coach through the different levels of the club. That'll probably mean involvement on the training ground with the first team all the way down through the academy so that at every level we are playing the type of football demanded by the head coach but also to develop the technical qualities of the younger players so that they can progress more seamlessly to senior football. He may have involvement with the scouting (which if the new manager is AVB will likely have a new emphasis considering the detail of AVB's own scouting reports) of younger players who would enter the academy or junior levels to ensure they have the qualities needed to fit the new footballing philosophies. It's a promotion from his job with the development group.

That would be my guess at what his role would include.

I very much doubt that'd be it. I think Levy is looking for a coach with distinct modern coaching principles and techniques. He wants to make best use of the great new facility we have. I don't think he'd choose a worse coach simply because he would be OK working with a Director of Football and I am sure if AVB gets the job then it'll be because he has convinced Levy that he is in with the vision that Levy has for the club and that his coaching abilities can get the most out of our current players and help to develop new stars for the future.
Would I be right in paraphrasing your views on a possible Sherwood role as follows?
"His responsibilities focus on managing and co-ordinating player development across all our squads, including the supervision and monitoring of loan placements, technical coaching and physical improvement."
It's just that I've quoted this from the 2011-12 Tottenham Hotspur Handbook, and it details Sherwood's current rôle of "Technical Co-ordinator".
He also scouted Souleymayne Coulibaly and recommended his transfer to us.
So what you appear to be saying is that he'd keep his current job, but possibly with a different title.

Blanc is first and foremost a great motivator. He is not much of a tactician. For people who disliked Harry because of the lack of tactics, you should not be hoping for Blanc to be much of an upgrade in that department.
