The only thing that is preventing me from getting to carried away with the Fabinio info is that if we are really just a few days from signing him then surely the big UK press outlets (bbc sport, sky sports etc..) would be reporting something pretty solid?? Especially as we are talking about a high profile player.

There wasnt any news about Modric to us

Yes Hutton should be sold, Walker kept to learn, but for me Charlie is slow and doesn't give us a cutting edge going forward. Just need someone mobile and that doesn't look flat-footed.

Is Kaboul the 4th? If so, he is a CB and was pushed there to cover by Harry. On a side note Kaboul was impressive v Stoke.

Naughton?

I think Toivonen would be good, but I think he is a backup to someone that we might only be able to get with a win tomorrow. Otherwise surely we would have signed him already or at least made a move. He isn't going to be hanging on CL to decide whether to move to us. Premiership would surely be a big enough draw.

Can't think of anyone else in his mould who might be a target though, other than Dzeko.

Maybe the delay is PSV getting a replacement in first, or him choosing between us and Liverpool?

Just found this on 606 from ValenciaYid in a thread entitled Luis Fabiano - done:

That's the sound of Stevie Wonder clearing his throat....signed, sealed, delivered, oh yeah.

Maybe nothing to do with us, but reading the itk today regarding another frenchie i found this today on a german page. Its about the transfer if Hatem Ben Arfa to Bremen, apparently the deal is almost done according to his agent, but...:

IMO Ben Arfa is the same type of player like Arda Turan, so might be a possible plan B if we dont get Young or Arda.

IMO Ben Arfa is the same type of player as Adel Taarabt. Arda has built on his promise and has considerable end product. Arfa, like Taarabt, is a blunt showboater.

There hasn't been much ITK on Toivonen has there?

One seemingly very solid piece a few days ago.

can Toivonen play in the CL having appeared in the EL qualifiers?

Yes.

luka modric

I take the point that there are exceptions, but I would argue that Modric was/is not as high profile as Fabiano and he also didn't play for a top European team. Klinsmann was over 15 years ago when transfer deals were a little different to what they are now. It is rare for such a major deal to not break in the major press at least a few days beforehand. I pray it's true though!

For All Those In Doubt As To Whether Fabiano Would Be Cup-Tied.

According to the rules in the section below, Fabiano will NOT be cup-tied if Sevilla FAIL to reach the group stages of the Champions League. If we fail and Sevilla don't or we both fail then Fabiano can still play for us in the EUROPA LEAGUE. See below:

18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA
Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for
more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally,
however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying
round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to
play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another
club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for
the group phase of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa
League; moreover, as from the start of the round of 16 (round of 32 for UEFA
Europa League), a player can be registered in accordance with paragraphs
18.17 to 18.20 below. For the avoidance of doubt, a substitute player who
has not been fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the
UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League in the course of the
same season, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in
accordance with the present regulations.

All of a sudden on GMTV Sugar was sitting on a yacht in Monaco signing one of the worlds greatest players.

:bang:

I think someone from FTL contacted Uefa regarding this, and he would be cup-tied because Sevilla are in the 4th round stages of qualifying. I guess time will tell. But fingers crossed if we do manage to sign him, he won't be.

If we were (somehow) to get to the group stage and through to the knockout - we would then be able to register Fabiano (if we sign him?)

A lot of IFS and BUTs there but... that's the jist of the situation?

A la Klinsmann and Modric you mean?

The press doesn't always get to know about this info and only usually have something solid when there is a medical about to happen etc.

Modric and Klinsmann came out of the blue i.e. no press and no ITK.

Yet with this Fabiano transfer, the press/media (Brazilian, Spanish, English) have reported nothing concrete yet we have ITKs who say its pretty much a done deal.

According to our ITKs, Fabiano has been on the cards for a couple of days. So surely the press would have got wind by now. Its not like the ITKs were told two minutes ago that Fabiano is a done deal.

Its the job of the football journos to find out about these things. ITKs get their info second/third hand.

If a transfer is a done deal, do people seriously think ITKs will get the info before Brazilian/Spanish/English journos ????

The Klinsmann signing was pre-ITK (I guess) as it was pre-Internet for most people! (I didn't get access to the internet until 1996ish).

But I take your point...
