Rossi here would be epic imo and with Forlan we would be challenging for the title and be playing that would be up there with 1961 team

If we had a manager like Bill Nicolson maybe. But they are exceedingly rare.

Forlan.
So Hot Right Now.
Forlan

I'd be happy with Forlan, but not as our best striker. Either to play up top with another quality striker (with VDV playing in from the right), or as backup to VDV.

Forlan plays as the striker further forward in Athletico, and Aguero is practically a VdV (more of a running game, but still a deep lying striker). Forlan before this season was one of the best strikers in the world, he would be a "marquee" signing. Also he did a lot better this season then people make out. It was mostly confict within a club that hindered his season. I know whenever I watched him play he still looked very good, dynamic, great free-kicks, can score from everywhere and brilliant movement.

I would bring another striker in, but realistically he is the best we can do. And has has been mentioned he could cover for VdV as well as playing alone up front (which anyone who has watched him play for Athletico knows he can do). This is the man who almost single-handedly led Uruguay to the semi-finals, being joint top scorer, and winning player of the tournament while he was at it, as well has winning the UEFA cup mostly alone.

What does a perfect cross with a woeful finish count as?

I don't watch numbers run around a pitch. I watch Bale and Lennon get in behind their men and put great balls for a poacher to put away. I watch Luka and VDV play little through balls for Defoe, Crouch, Pavlyuchenko and Keane to miss.

Sorry, but you didn't watch the football I did, where we created chance after chance without a finish provided.

Watch the bloody West Ham game.

I'm sorry Stoof, but that is plain rubbish. Even that West Ham game, we only created a couple of ACTUAL genuine chances, one of them was a result of someone having a shot and the ball bounced back off the post.

Modric spent most of the season as a water carrier, not playing "little through balls". The vast majority of Lennon and Bale crosses do not create real chances. VDV and Crouch were our most creative players.

Think this through, or better still go back and watch the quantity and QUALITY of chances we actually were making in most games last season. Our strikers weren't missing three 1v1's a game.

Our strikers are gash, but I've been saying that since before we sold Defoe the first time. And if we'd actually played Modric in a more advanced role then he would have certainly contributed more creatively in the danger area.

To be fair to our wide players, none of our other regular CM's support attacks well enough either.

Huddelstone sits on our "D" in an armchair - because "his position is so good". Palacios and Sandro get nose bleeds when they go past the halfway line (or get bollocked by Redknapp for scoring). The only real box to box CM we've had is Jenas and he's been used sparingly and when he he has he's often been used as a DM in the absence of Palcios/Hudd/Sandro which culled his natural game.

It's why I've been saying for ages we need an upgrade on Jenas and for Modric to be played in the attacking 3 of a 4231. Something like:

----Sandro/Palacios--Keita
Modric--------VDV--------------Bale
--------Adebayor

We do not create enough quality chances.

Just noticed my sentence made no sense, but I think we have intelligent players on the ball like VDV, Hudd and modric and with rossi teams would really struggle with our movement and I think rossi can play a up front on his own. I think what our strikers lack is intelligence and pav is probably this best of the lot and this is the reason why we score more goals when he's in the team

Rossi and Forlan would allow us to more goals from our midfield and I think the only weak link in our first 11 would Lennon as he really needs to get his confidence pre groin strain

I also agree about the managers but sometimes when you get players that are very intelligent and are given freedom by the manager, that level of play could be achieved

I think parker could do the same job as keita in that formation

Just got home from work to find out all this Forlan talk.
Bit disappointed,WAS a great player IN SPAIN but past his best and not what we really need.Didn't have the best season for Atleti this year IMHO.
Would only take him if we could not get anyone better and its too early in the window to say that.
Still think someone like Adebayor would suit us better.

I just wonder whether forlan will cut it. I will obviously support new players and obviously hope he is a success if he indeed comes here but the age worries me a little and i just don't remember him being anything more than a cult hero at united. Not seen enough of him in Spain so probably doing him an.injustice.......

I'm starting to get excited now at the prospect of a VDV Forlan combo

Exactly. Whilst I think Shanks is a great poster and figure on this board, lets at least wait until some sort of media agency picks this up before we start jizzing our pants.

It was great of Shanks to pass his news on, but the reaction to it is a bit over the top.

Forlan is a player that I have always liked and even at 32(major drawback) would still be far too smart for most of the dumb defender's in this league.
His movement would be too much for them and he would certainly drag defender's into area's they don't really want to be in.
However I don't think the likes of Crouch, Pavlyuchenko or someone like Leandro would be a good partner for him.
Forlan is also a player who doesn't really chase back for the ball and is a luxury player in that sense but staying up field he would certainly keep more than 1 defender on their toe's.
