I just wonder whether forlan will cut it. I will obviously support new players and obviously hope he is a success if he indeed comes here but the age worries me a little and i just don't remember him being anything more than a cult hero at united. Not seen enough of him in Spain so probably doing him an.injustice.......
Gallas? regarding age.
In Spain he was tremendous apart from last season. Both at Villareal and Atletico Madrid.

I think we need to cover the sea ports too.
Watch the skies everywhere. Keep looking watch the skies.
Maybe legs are being pulled in the medical.

I'm convinced that Shanks has been told this by some of our players. The only caveat is if they're winding him up.

wouldn't call Shanks a random poster.
He has been on SC for a while now and a lot of us have had the pleasure of meeting him as well. genuine top bloke.

If Shank's says he was told this by his source then i believe him, but as he has said its just whats being talked about that his source has picked up.

I would also like to mention that Im a fan of Forlan, I went to see Ireland v Uruguay recently at Lansdowne road and was intrigued to see how he would play but was very disappointed he was absolutely marked out of the game by Stephen Kelly and less so by O'Dea and showed no quality on the ball whatsoever, although i understand it was a friendly and he may not have cared too much on that particular day but the other Uruguayan players where excellent especially cavani, Im still excited by the prospect of signing him but that performance I seen really will worry me that he's past until proven otherwise

Forlan reminds me of Tevez in a way.

Wot...you mean...:eek:mg::eek:mg::eek:mg:

Not bothered by either but a lot of people are writing them off because Cole has been shit for 4 seasons, Forlan didn't have a good year last year, so lets not sign them. TBH if they'd had blinding seasons we'd be nowhere near signing them would we? If Harry can get either playing to their potential, they could be good signings.

Indeed.
Having saturation TV and football video games really has convinced some folk they are something more than frustrated Accrington Stanley assistant coaches.

If they weren't, then they should have. We created fuck all last season. I'm not saying Kranjcar would have added shitloads, but a total combined assists of 3 between Bale and Lennon was a dire return.

We desperately need more creativity in our side.

Talking of fantasy football...

if you add up the open goals our strikers managed to miss then the assists number should have been far higher

Failing to connect to a chance created doesn't make it on to stat lists...it's just something you see watching the match...certain types of evidence are priviliged:wink:

we were one of the highest in the table of chances created. You cant blame the likes of Lennon, Bale and Modric when they do create chances only for who ever it fell to messing up.

It's a chicken/egg thing...did we fail to score more because we weren't very creative, or was it because our strikers were poor in spite of our team being very creative. Stats or evidence of the eye - you decideEek

I'll camp out on my balcony, in case he tries to parachute in and gets blown of course.

I'm checking teletext. Don't ask me why, I just like the colours and the retroness of it

Blue and Yellow by any chance?

I'm going to Marbella next weekend with source, if it's a wind up, I pity him hahaha

And if he's telling the truth you'll have to get the beers in. And you've just let something slip about your source....we know it's a man now.

Can we please stop naming airports? People complain about the most trivial things which are at least transfer related and then we have 10+pages of absolute nonsense.

Shanks really came through in a time of need for those of us bored at work today! I can't imagine what it would have been like today with no news/discussion at all!

Shanks is hardly a random poster. He's been on here much longer than you and is very respected on here. I believe 100% that he's been told this info and passed it on in good faith. His source may be wrong of course but I certainly don't believe Shanks would make this up.

And I don't take kindly to a 'random poster' telling me to wake up either so button it.

If Forlan comes and doesn't score the goals we need, he'll make us all forlorn.

Forlan plays as the striker further forward in Athletico, and Aguero is practically a VdV (more of a running game, but still a deep lying striker). Forlan before this season was one of the best strikers in the world, he would be a "marquee" signing. Also he did a lot better this season then people make out. It was mostly confict within a club that hindered his season. I know whenever I watched him play he still looked very good, dynamic, great free-kicks, can score from everywhere and brilliant movement.

I would bring another striker in, but realistically he is the best we can do. And has has been mentioned he could cover for VdV as well as playing alone up front (which anyone who has watched him play for Athletico knows he can do). This is the man who almost single-handedly led Uruguay to the semi-finals, being joint top scorer, and winning player of the tournament while he was at it, as well has winning the UEFA cup mostly alone.
Forlan can play up top on his own, in Spain. I'm not sure he is the ideal lone striker in England. The defenders are a lot more physical in England, and even though Forlan is strong, i'm not sure he'll be able to hold the ball up as a lone striker.

He's definitely an upgrade on what we have, has great movement and is a very intelligent striker.
