More than we paid for Modric on a kid who has played a handful of times for Betis? He's already had a cruciate ligament injury too. It's been a crazy transfer window but this would be unhinged!

The thing is he's hugely rated in Spain and has had the big clubs watching him for a long time, he's considered a real prospect, they were waxing lyrical about this lad last summer and he'd hardly played in La Primera then. Now of course he could flop, but the scouts at the major clubs in Spain rate him highly and presumably if we are pursuing him so do our scouts, all signings are a gamble but you weigh up all gambles both against the downsides and the upsides. Clearly this lad has the potential to have a huge upside and the thinking must be that he has enough quality to be a decent player and hold his value even if he doesn't become the new Ronaldo

Then of course there's the ear factor, for 20 mill euros you are getting much the same lug wise as we did with Bale and that has worked out pretty well :D

The money for these youth prospects are clearly coming out of another pot. Whilst I agree 17 million pounds is too much I highly doubt Betis will expect that. These sort of players represent a big risk but one that can really pay off. We can't attract players from the elite bracket of footballers atm, the only way to do so is bring them in before they gain a reputation and develop.

I trust Baldini and our scouts more than anyone here so if they are willing to take such a risk on said player then there must be a huge amount of potential.

This kid is exactly the kind of signing that not so long ago people were moaning that we didn't make. Now that we're 'linked' with making one, people are still moaning. It's almost enough to make me rip off my nightie, get dressed and take the dog for a walk. And if my nightie wasn't made of the finest lace, spun from the pubes of the rare lesser spotted yak, I would do exactly that.

I honestly don't know enough about this youngster to pass comment, going to have to trust Baldini and AVB on this one.

i think if we are after Vadillo, then we struggled to deal with Hilalovic father. I hope We are signing only Hilalovic.

Lamela - Hilalovic - Vlad - Contrao would be good and far enough for me.

I wish to keep Adebayor as Soldado backup, but if not, i don't mind selling Defoe too and get better option to rest Soldado on the bench for Europa League, or push him too in EPL as well.

A & C come on now you're obviously a sensible chap, is there even the slightest part of you tat could see us even considering paying £17 million this window for Vadillo?

I think it's probably true that Lewis has put in some cash. It would allow us to be liquid in advance of the TV and Bale money (the latter ideally received early next summer, with CL income on the way). But I doubt it has a specific earmark, and I hope the club has the sense to stick with 30 million in the bank than buy for PR. There will be another sell-off in La Liga next season, players available in Serie A and Ligue 1, and full FFP will do us no harm in those markets.

Vadillo looks very agile and skillful, but very raw. He won't jump ahead of Chadli, Townsend or Lennon for our first team YET imho, which is what I'm most worried about now. I'm encouraged that we're looking at him though.
