My issue with O.Dembele becoming in option is just that, it's another option. I think Levy needs to be focused on one target and up against the wall to actually pay the amount required to seal a deal for Zaha or Martial.
A distraction. We never sign young ultra expensive players like this

Given what was said at the beginning of the window, I didn't think we'd be less than two weeks from it closing and still be weighing up options... thought we'd be going in balls deep for our top targets by now...

Can see us trying the new “in thing” and trying to get him on a 2 year loan.

Even if it has no option to buy it’ll only cost us his wages (a guess at £7m a year). For 2 years we would have a quality player for very little outlay, with more money to spend elsewhere.
With many potential suitors I would expect Barca to demand some kind of "loan fee".

There would clearly be a fee involved, he was a £100m+ player. They aren’t going to say have him on loan just for his wages.

Agreed. Maybe that is the case, but it doesn't seem that way from outside!

I'd worry though that if he was earning more than our regular players, that could unsettle them and they could feel resentful that they can't have the same.

But his fee also needs to get taken into account. There would need to be a loan fee of say 1/5 of his original fee per year (c£20m) per season. Barca would want to recoup as much of that as possible. It’s not quite so attractive then.

Barca would never get anyone to take him at a price they deem acceptable and then have a buy-back clause thrown in as well. He was bought for 105m, any fee for him would make accepting a buyback clause as idiotic. Though I suppose a lesser club might fall for it, but then would they be able to get Dembele himself to sign for them.

He has potential to be a massive star, but we wont get him.

Best thing about this window is that if players like OD and Martial want to join us it only shows the club is heading in the right direction

It wasn't that long ago we were closer to signing players that West Ham are after than these types of players. Players WANT to play for Spurs now

I think you’re guessing at a loan fee. We have no idea how much it would be if one was involved.

I’m not surprised O Dembele is potentially available, following the Willian-esque move Barca pulled to get Malcom.

I’d like to see him in a Spurs shirt (again), we could end up with a devastating combination of pace, skill and finishing up front.

Nice from @The Goat !

He may have waned a bit but Dembele is still by far our best CM when on form so even I f he’s phased out this season, he still has a role to play.

As for Barca’s Dembele, 100% we should try if there’s a chance. Ridiculous talent.

If O.Dembele fits Pochs profile and poch is happy, I think it would be more of a statement getting him on whatever terms than signing Zaha or Martial

I do wonder then if M. Dembele will end up signing some sort of contract extension. Surely Levy wouldn't let him go on a free next season.

I disagree a united player pushing to leave them for us and us making that happen would be a huge statement of where we are as a club given our past.

Dembele is a ridiculous talent. But it seems Martial is the one that is 'available' and suits us long term, young and the world is his if he wants it.

On the other hand with finances being tight (i know we still supposed to have a hefty transfer kitty) i can see why we could maybe opt for a two year loan, get talent in whilst saving/repaying back some of the stadium. It may even work out that somehow Dembele doesn't fit in at barca two years down the line and is offered to us.

He was offered an extension just not one the length he wanted. As before was all very amicable, because we understand his circumstances and everything was done the right way.

Agree, it was a total guess but it was done to suggest there would need to be a fee and not merely the wages as stated

Someone a little closer to the way deals work such as @Trix would be better placed to contribute. *Note - although I put a figure down, that was merely how much they’re in it for - £100m divided over a 5 year (?) contract.

To be fair the Goat says agents are touting O Dembele around and that he would consider us but there is nothing there stating we are looking at him as an option. His talent might make him attractive if the offer is right though.
