The quietness of Danchev

Thank you for the link, Lily. I watched the whole interview for a first time and it's more revealing than it seemed to me while reading the written reports.

First, Danchev was asked about his comment of the opinion, shared by some English journalists and Spurs fans, that Berbatov is happy at Spurs and he is the bad man who constantly speculates about his future and wants to secure him a transfer in order to gain money. Danchev responded to this question that he has no qualms as he represents Berbatov's interests and makes what both find good for Berbatov's future. Berbatov has developed well as a player, he's already 27 and it's normal for him to look for the next step in his career as he isn't going to play 100 years football.

Then, Danchev criticisied a publication by a Bulgarian media that accused Berbatov that he, by contrast to Carrick, is going to quit Spurs in a not particularly good manner. Danchev said, the journo was bad informed about Carrick. There are some problems between Man U and Spurs because THFC's bosses were forced to sell Carrck due to the fact the latter stated absolutely categorically he wants out and left Spurs no chance. So, it's a myth that Spurs sold Carrick to make a profit, he forced them to sell him.

Then, Danchev was asked why Berbatov is underestimated wages wise, given that younger players like Modric and Bent (will) have bigger salaries than him. Danchev said that money are not priority to Berbatov. More importantly, if Berbatov got more money it would be more difficult to move to a bigger club. So, his words imply that it has been a deliberate policy Berbatov to stay on relatively lower wages because this could make a transfer easier. Then he said that it's no problem Berbatov to become the highest paid player at Spurs, if he stays after the summer. But from the context it was clear that not bigger wages but the next step in his career is the more important thing for Berbatov.

In sum, it's clear from the interview that Berbatov wants to to play at a higher level (CL club) and would stay only if such a move did not happen. I think this was clear also from Ramos words that it's late to try to change Berbatov's mind. No one from the journos at the p/c asked Danchev as to whether Berbatov really wants to move to an European grand as this was taken as self-evident imo.

Finally, Danchev said that the possible transfer fee papers wrote about in January (£35-40m) is "absolutely unrealistic".

That's the best I can do Lily, I guarantee that the translation is as correct as my knowledge of English allows it.

 Thanks Petyr! Much appreciated.

Interesting questions they asked him!

Regarding Carrick's transfer, the player himself said that once he knew MU were in for him he wanted to move there, but I wasn't aware of any lingering "problems" between MU and THFC as Danchev claims?

With respect to Berbatov's wages, well Dan Ashcroft has said he earns about £39,000 per week. Berba himself said to BG Media that at the start of this season Spurs gave him "a small increase in wages". Who knows what the true accurate figure is? AFAIK he refused to sign the new contract offered to him last season as Spurs would not include a buy out clause in it, and stalemate was reached. But I'm quite appalled at Danchev's musings about how a deliberate policy of keeping his client on lower wages would make it easier to get a transfer to a bigger club!! Eek
It makes him sound like Berbatov never had any commitment to stay at Spurs at all, and always intended to move asap. No wonder then that there is bad feeling caused by his pronouncements, and no, he is quite wrong, and chided the BG journos falsely, Carrick's case was entirely different to this. Carrick joined Spurs in good faith from West Ham and I'm sure would've been happy to stay had MU not come along, but understandably he wanted to move once that became known to him. He or his Agent did not agitate to move throughout the 2 year period he was a Spurs Player. The MU bid came in the Summer, out of the blue. Negotiations took place. He moved. End of. Good Luck to him. He's done very well.

Sadly, with Danchev's antics, one suspects the same won't be said to Berbatov by every supporter.

I agree with you Petyr, and as I suspected, if a bid comes in for him, he will move. Any notion that he would somehow choose to stay at Spurs was far too optimistic.

Incidentally he took part in a special 60th Anniversary match for CSKA today in Sofia. The All Stars team was coached by Lothar Mattheus, Berba scored a goal, and the final score was 6 - 6. Presentations were made to former players and they've all had expensive black marble slabs with gold stars and their names inscribed, quite impressive really.

Lily, he tried to explain why one of the stars in Premiership gets 2-4 times less than the other players of his calibre. And he came up with this excuse because it was clear that he as an agent should have secured a better contract for a player who already was one of the biggest stars in the Bundesliga and who was already closely followed (and wanted) from Man U and Arsenal. He tried to excuse his inepteness as an agent with the supposed wish to keep the door open for a transfer to an European giant. He was nervous and said things he shouldn't have said imo.

Berbatov started along Stoichkov for the All Stars team and scored 2, then he was subbed and came in for CSKA Sofia and scored another goal and also an own goal with a knee (deliberately, for the show). As expected, after the game he was asked by yournos whether he will mov eto another club but he refused to comment on that theme and said only that nothing is certain and by the end of summer it will be clear (where he is going to play next season).

Just watched the video with Berbatov after the game. He said: "Please let's not speculate, it will become clear (where I'm going to play next season). Then we will be glad and will comment on it." The latter sentence sounds to me a little bit strange.

He certainly never stops talking does he? Eek One question from a reporter is enough to set him off and he gives incredibly loooong answers to every single question, unlike most Agents, it has to be said, who speak concisely and sparingly to the media about their clients, and presuambly do their talking in contract negotiations with the clubs.
I entirely agree with your analysis Petyr, that he is using that as an excuse, and if he advised his client not to sign the new contract on offer last season to increase his wages significantly, on the basis that there was no buy out clause included in it, well then he just continued advising his client very badly. Berbatov had already signed the 4+2 year initial contract on joining. Presumably Danchev thinks he is cleverer than Spurs, and could pull a fast one and move his client after one year only?
Continuing evidence that Berbaotv, however well meaning, is simply not being served professionally as a Footballer by this jerk, and neither does it do his reputation any good, sadly.

The sight of Danchev in the CSKA trophy room with Lothar Mattheus made me feel sick. What's he doing in such illustrious company? I know that Bulgarian and German Football seem to have a close relationship, but Danchev mixing in with them just brings the whole thing down for me.....

Thanks for the match report and the heads up about the videos.
Just had a good look at everything, enjoyed it very much, great they put up so much material online.

Aw bless that old boy being overcome with emotion and couldn't speak when he was presented with his medal. And the lady who I assume was a widow of an ex famous CSKA player. It was nice they included her. :)

I see Berbatov is "synonymous with Bulgaria" and "the most famous BG footballer" (I'm guessing) from what I gather the announcer said before introducing him. LOL at his John Galliano jumper slung over his shoulders and jeans and shirt. He's such a designer fashionista! But sometimes gets it wrong! A jacket would've been more fitting for this occasion imo. I know he loves to read the British Lifestyle magazines, but increasingly he's looking like a picture shoot from the inside pages.

I guess he was laughing at the end when he came out to sign autographs and chat to the press cos the crowd were chanting so loudly that no-one could hear what he was saying - that or the mics didn't work!

A nice occasion anyway, and he looked like he thoroughly enjoyed it. Good to see Martin Petrov there too, his future is no clearer either by the sounds of it.

So....Berba has taken part in THFC's 125th Anniversary and now CSKA's 60th.

On a side note: The acrobatic girls troupe who performed the half time show were fabulous and could be in Cirque du Soleil, they were on another planet to the drab Hammerettes!

Looking at those sad characters doing the Conga round the ground, it makes me wonder why Eastern European supporters feel the need to ape English fan's behaviour from 10 years ago just to prove they're hard hoolies?

Maybe Danchev was just doing an agent's networking job insofar as looking after other players on his books, or acting as an intermediary for some business to be conducted sometime ahead.

Indeed. Looks like the new owner of CSKA wants Lothar Mattheus to be their Coach.

.......Not so quiet anymore.

Here's an interview with Danchev at the CSKA bash, talking about Berbatov.

Данчев: Рано е да говорим за бъдещето на Бербатов

A better quality version of the interview with the man himself coming out of the CSKA dressing room.

Anything to add to what we already know Petyr, Gaby?

Nothing really new, they both were excited and happy afer the game and the interviews were jocular.
Danchev asked for patience, "the summer is long" and then talked about how famous and shy Berbatov is.
When they asked Berbatov about transfers he said "please, stop with these questions" And then they talked about his future (maybe as an actor :D)

Nothing interesting IMO. The journalist asked Danchev where Berbatov will play next season: Real, Barca, Milan, Man U...?And he answered: Just be a little bit more patient, it will become clear soon and then he clarified that soon means during the summer.

Love that word "Jocular"!

Berbs is often jocular with the BG media though isn't he, it's a side to him that I wish the people here who say he's a moody git could see. He's not so "shy" at home in Bulgaria, he makes the speeches etc. when he needs to very well.
An actor huh? Intriguing.....? Eek

Gaby, what was the event he attended yesterday I saw the pictures of? Looked like a testimonial match for a player who had died? They were handing out red carnations, and the scenery was spectacular, with the mountains in the background. Where was that, not Pirin? He's so friendly, he even signed autographs for children in the middle of eating his dinner!

Some of the ITK suggested that we've set a price and said if we don't get an acceptable offer then he's staying.

For once it's perhaps that simple. Dantchev can't really do anything but go to the clubs and say what that fee is. If they aren't willing to pay it then no amount of him spouting off will change that.

I'm more confident now of him staying than I was a month ago. I don't think we'll sell to an English club, Milan aren't in the champions league and Barca have an embarassment of strikers already.

So..in the article it is written that the game was in Dupnitsa, the nearest mountain there is Rila so i suppose it is Rila. It was a benefit of one football player - Zdravko Radev.
BTW, Lily, i think i should tell you the truth. Gabi from the Bulgarian forum is different one. I even don't know her... It is a coincidence that her name is Gabriela and that she is a senior this year :D:D

Petyr I appreciate your work on translations etc, but I can't help that you place your "Berbatov is leaving" slant on them. This may be me being unfair, but it does seem the case.

The end of the summer break will provide the accuracy (and luck) of some of the predictions. After all, ITK is only opinion of some information - it's human nature.

The translation is absolutely correct an has no slant on it. The journo asked where Berbatov will play and mentioned some giants as possible destinations to which Danchev just asked for more patience which doesn't necessarily mean that he accepts the journo's presumption that Berbatov is leaving and the only unclarity is where. Both Berba and the agent just keep saying to the journos: have some patience, it will become clear where Berba is going to play. No one of them has ruled out the possibility that he may stay at Spurs. You should take into account that most Bulgarian journos want him to make such a move and therefore ask such questions as if the move is (almost) certain. As to whether he is leaving indeed, I just don't know.
