Yet you and others in this very sort of thread start to piss and moan about the fact that we 'should have gotten in sooner' when it comes to those young players who then explode and become '£50 million pound talents' that Levy won't fork the cash out for.

You're an ever decreasing circle. Fuck a duck.
Example?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I have no qualms about those who want to argue the toss when it comes to actual top tier talent but half the players being mentioned in here start somewhere before they hit the heady heights and the big leagues.

if we’ve identified (fuck knows if we have, but from what I’ve seen good and bad I have at least) that there’s a potential Bale in there then how on Earth is signing him a lack of ambition? Nobody is saying sign him as the answer to all our problems, they (and I) are saying sign him in addition to others.

I'm with you 100%. The majority of people saying "we need to set our sights higher & stop signing young hopefuls" are indeed the same people who complain that we didn't sign superstars while they were young hopefuls.

It does my nut in too.

However, it would be bloody wonderful if our club could somehow contrive a way to sign both potential AND the finished item.

Or we could target both, since Grealish is certainly more of a number 10 and Tielemans is an 8.
Honestly, if anything it’s the other way around. But both have largely played as the most attacking of a central midfield 3 this season (at least at Leicester in Tielemans’ case), and to judge Grealish by goals and assists is to gravely misunderstand his role in a team.

Yes it is. That's exactly what it is. We will never win the league in a perpetual state of investing in young prospects.

Levy's greatest ever achievement is getting much of the fanbase to champion spending less money over procuring tier 1 players.
Dont get me wrong, if we only signed him and nobody else then yeah that’s not ambitious, but I see nothing wrong with signing young players for the future

Why not just sign Bale, or a player of Bale's calibre?

Jack Clarke - Decent prospect but the lack of ambition in wanting to sign him is incredulous.

Don't agree with over-hyping Grealish either. 6 goals and 6 assists for the season - playing in attacking midfield.

Conversely Hakim Ziyech has racked up 20 goals and 20 assists for the season in AM, off the right.

That could be the difference between finishing on 76 points and finishing on 98 points.

Remember - we are 20 points behind the league leaders - again.

Jack Clarke isn't the answer.
great point re the margin between 3rd and 2nd. My view is that the 'young british prospects' targets probably help us consolidate 3rd but if we're serious about a shot at the title then we'd need a very different list.

We all know the MO of those at the top and I know that the noise has changed (if you believe De Jong stuff) but until something actually happens the Clarkes and the Grealish's and the Brooks's of this world are where this amazing club are at it seems (rightly or wrongly)

Talk is cheap, the majority of us know that, the resulting actions is what we want to see more of and we'll probably all be waiting with out cocks in our hands again, pissing in the wind is a Spurs fan tradition when it comes to the transfer window!

...and 74.3% of statistics are made up, didn't you know.

Hmm, Villa usually play a 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1 with one holding player and two players in-front, Grealish being one of them.

He picks the ball up in all sort of areas, sometimes off the centre-backs, sometimes out wide and drives forward, he also gets stuck in and makes challenges (more so than an Eriksen) - I'd say he's a central midfielder for Villa nowadays.

Think he'd be a great fit for us, because of how our fluid our formations are.

Because we don’t need old, regularly crocked, antisocial golfers?

If Zidane is openly questioning his commitment, he’ll drive Poch up the wall.
I don't think that's fair pal. Tbh if I moved away from England and struggled to learn the native language of the country I was living in, I'd probably be pretty antisocial myself. Golf is probably the only thing he enjoys doing in Spain when he isn't being heckled and booed by his own fans when he's playing football!

The rest I agree with, but I definitely think there's an underlying reason for his reclusiveness. I can't say that was ever present when he was with us.

Never trust Dutch league stats. 2015/6 a certain Vincent Janssen scored 27 for AZ.....
