I wouldn't worry. Beat Arsenal and suddenly we don't need upgrades, we'll have an amazing team again etc.
Slightly missed my sarcasm. No, we won't. Beat Arsenal, finish third, whatever happens, we need upgrades because we have to be trying to win the league now, not settling for a champions league place. If Levy/Poch are happy for top 4 then fine, sell 1 or 2 and buy 1 or 2, but now (like we have been saying for the past 3/4 windows) we need to show ambition. Stop talking and start spending. Because I can guarantee United will be a different animal next season. We need to focus on getting closer to City/Liverpool and we can only do that by upgrading.
Back Poch this summer, move into the stadium and find out how good we can be, or settle for seasons finishing between 3rd and 6th.
Slightly missed my sarcasm.
I agree, let's ignore the £1b+ stadium still to pay for, and spend spend spend! I like your thinking. Just not sure it's a good idea.
I don't want Jan to leave but at his age its inevitable before long, likewise Toby. Sissoko has made himself a regular starter.
My point is for various reasons (mainly poor recruitment) we've stockpiled mediocre players.
There’s only a handful of players we must keep, a lot of the players I wouldn’t mind letting go if we got a good offer
On top 6 I mean results wise however if we beat Liverpool Man city Arsenal it's 50/50 on results. What do you mean we're short big time on the top 6? We're 3rd and we've so far matched Chelsea and Utd against eachother (lost 1 won 1). We now have to beat Arsenal at home and try and win away to City and Liverpool because we lost those games earlier in the season. I would say we're short of Liverpool and City for sure so not expecting to win those. We have to prove if we're truly ahead of Arsenal by winning at home Saturday. Do that and we set our mark as the 3rd best team with 10 games to play. Yes we've lost the odd banana skin game too but we've also won games that would otherwise have drawn.
At this time we're progressing from last season at this rate. As long as we keep it up we can improve on our points total last season. We've just dropped back from the 16/17 season when we were at WHL. Get back home and add a few key players this summer then we can push on again next season. If anything the stadium came at the wrong time and we've been a little in transition since. The average age of the squad is still good though and still room to improve with the players we have. There's a few older players we can replace and a few fringe players who we can just sell without replacing (give their limited minutes to the academy players).
So I think you exagerated on saying we're behind the top 6 big time. We've become more competitive the past few seasons in the big games. We finally won at Stamford Bridge for the first time last season. We won at the Emirates in the cup for the first time in a long time. They're little hurdles but bit by bit we're showing we're now a lot more competitive in the big games. On top 6 I mean results wise however if we beat Liverpool Man city Arsenal it's 50/50 on results.
Other option is for poch to bring through some of the more flamboyant academy players, instead of the safe ones. Maghoma, roles, Onomah, TOB, and even Shashoua are far more creative and can play in that forward CM position. Might help reduce the required outlay. Playing the safe types isn't always best practice. Our CM options and creativity department is just not up to Top 4 standard. We are walking through the season with Sissoko and Winks every game with NO alternatives. I won't blame these two especially not Winks but it is just not enough. It wasn't when Dembele was around either. No real playmaking or creating of chances and nearly never a goal threat. We can not mix things up. Yes we have Wanyama, Dier and Skipp but they are so limited in their offensive contributions either.
So with that being said, that area should be made prime target and we need two players with at least one very established.
We need definitley fresh faces.
I've been saying it for years and I'll repeat it again.
This team desperately needs a dribbler (Zaha etc), someone who'll attract double teams and create space for others.
We all know about the need for a new centre midfielder. If Eriksen leaves, we still need more than one creator in the team.
When the only playmaker isn't playing well everything becomes much harder. For a team in the top four, this isn't good enough.
Lamela is capable of playing quality through balls and has good vision but he isn't consistent enough. Alli is also capable but his technique isn't good enough for him to play at his preferred pace. He misses several through ball opportunities as a result.
Winks is trying to be more aggressive with his passing but we don't have time to wait for this new skill to develop.
Eriksen has too much to do, he's playing poorly, he knows he won't get dropped and the team is suffering because there is no alternative.
I refuse to believe that there are no attainable players in the world that fit the description of what at need.
Big summer ahead.

Kovacic would be so perfect in this team.... fingers crossed we can take advantage of Chelsea's transfer ban and pluck this guy.
I have been hoping for Diawara out of Napoli for over a year now and for me it's just looking like a better and better option, seeing that he's not getting many minutes at Napoli this season - enormous potential and on his day already top class. Very young at 21 and a perfect replacement for Wanyama/Dembele.
Completely agree!Like the look of Diwara, especially if we adopt a three-man midfield system next season. Like Fernandinho at City, he could take up that central holding position.
Talking of midfielders at Napoli, I’m gutted we missed out on Fabian Ruiz. There were a few tenuous links with him last summer, and he looked a fantastic, affordable option for us. Instead he went to Napoli for €25m and has been brilliant for them.
Kane at the beginning of this clip is painful. Bad touches and dribbling into blind alleys. Just watch Eriksen and Lamela. Yeesh.
I wasn't that impressed by Kovacic early in the season, but maybe that's just needing an adjustment time or not fitting with Sarri ball, or me not watching the right games/things. He seems like he has all the qualities to be a sensational CM under Poch.
