Anyone think James Milner on a Bosman would be worth it. Not a glamour signing in any way but he's tough as an old boot, masses of experience and can play just about anywhere. I'd say not a bad HG option as a squad player.

Chuck in a better RB than we currently have, and that would be a decent window
It's a shame we haven't yet seen what Aurier might be capable of, but if we are going to change anything there I'd just sell one of him or Trippier and have KWP as second choice.
Even though we have had information about Wanyama and his knee, when he appears on people's 'out/to leave' list, is he going on a free?
He's on mine as someone we could afford to let go. I have no objection to him staying - he's a good bloke and will always give his all for the team.

Lallana, Mitrovic, Dunk & Duffy, Rondon and now Milner?

Fucking hell!

There have been at least half a dozen games this season where I'd have had Milner on the pitch. He's a gnarly old work horse who has, IMO, never let anybody down. Think of our games v Burnley, Southampton, West Ham and the rest where we threw in the towel and tell me he wouldn't have been an option. It's a free transfer for a HG player.

We shouldn’t sign Bale, Milner, Godin, Lallana or anyone else who is 30+.

These players will want a final big payday and are likely to be injury prone. The ROI makes them poor investments, even if they are free transfers, once you factor in wages and agent fees.

We should do what Man City and Liverpool have been going by signing young but highly rated players from the German, French, Italian and Spanish leagues.

When did this morph into the "want to sign some old gadgies West Ham thread."

You're absolutely right. Should start a thread entitled 'When our flouncy boys are getting the shit kicked out of them by Tranmere in the Carabo Cup - why the fuck didn't we sign some old gadgies on Bosmans?' Titles a bit long though.

Wouldn't mind Godin on a free... could be an experienced hand to mentor Sanchez/Foyth on pitch, like Naybet with Ledley.

I expect there to be massive changes -- it's what Poch is calling for explicitly in the media and if it doesn't happen it will only be because he isn't being backed or because our recruitment team is too inept to get the business done. Neither option is acceptable after the last two windows.

I certainly don't expect it to all come off, but this being the wishlist thread here is what I would consider ideal (assuming there's no stopping Eriksen and Toby from leaving), working from back to front:

Defence:
OUT:
Vorm IN: Academy keeper promoted or cheap HG keeper brought in
OUT: Toby IN: Dier moved to CB and Lloyd Kelly brought in as young, talented LCB to deputise for Vertonghen
OUT: Aurier and Trippier IN: AWB or Atal (KWP and Foyth as rotation options)
OUT: Davies IN: Sessegnon

Central/Defensive Midfield:
OUT: Wanyama IN: Marcos Llorente
OUT: Dembele IN: Diawara or Berge

Attacking Midfield:
OUT: Eriksen IN: Brandt
OUT: Lamela IN: Grealish

Attack:
OUT: Llorente and Janssen IN: Bale (two year loan à la James)
OUT: Nkoudou IN: Dan James

That would leave us with the following squad, with at least two options for every position in a 4-3-3:

Keeper: Lloris, Gazzaniga, Whiteman?
CB: Vertonghen, Sanchez, Dier, Foyth, Kelly
LB: Rose, Sessegnon, Kelly
RB: AWB/Atal, KWP, Foyth

No. 6: M. Llorente, Diawara/Berge
Box-to-Box CM: Winks, Sissoko
Playmaking CM: Brandt, Grealish

Forwards: Kane, Son, Bale, Dele, Lucas, James

Despite the huge amount of business this doesn't strike me as unrealistically optimistic. As I said I certain don't expect us to be able to get all of it done, and the likes of Lloyd Kelly and Dan James would just be opportunistic purchases of young HG talents -- if we were beaten to the punch by other clubs, we wouldn't necessarily need other signings to take their places in the squad. If Madrid want to get shot of Bale they're going to have to subsidize his wages no matter what, so I don't think a cheeky loan deal is completely outside of the realm of possibility. The rest of the targets really ought to be attainable for us.

Godin would be perfect as a temporary Toby replacement, but I imagine he’ll be looking for a nice big pay day for his final contract, which he won’t be getting here.

Adam Lalana isn't a bad shout. Still only 30 and he is a very versatile player. We just need to know whether the games he has missed wasnt through injury and just through selection
If we are looking at free transfers who play a similar role to Eriksen I’d take Mata ahead of Lallana.

Poch, generally speaking, likes young malleable players.

I'm not sure we're going to go after players entering their twighligt years.

We've got plenty of experience to rely on. Hugo, Jan, Sissoko and Kane running through the spine of the team. And that's assuming Toby and Eriksen leave.

We want quick, dynamic and fluid footballers. We won't find them shopping in the departure lounge lol.
