I lived through Lasagnagate, the Chris Foy Stoke game and Chelsea winning the Champions League on penalty kicks against Bayern Munich- in Munich.

I'll say what I fucking want.

It's just a bit of self referential humour... I wouldn't take things like this too seriously.

Billy Connolly once said "if you cannae laugh at yourself, your fucking doomed."

It creates an expectancy of inevitable failure (or falling short) around the club. It's like a poisonous mist.

Fuck it off.

It's negative.

It's not the idea of laughing at yourself I have an issue with, it's the "spursy" reference to every little thing that goes wrong these days. Before you know it every team will be referencing Spursy and it'll join selfie in being another recently made up word that I hate.

Spursy.

Stop it.

Totally agree. Stop being superstitious stop being scared to write optomistic material. Stop believing that what is written on this site can have any influence on results.

Poch has delivered a completely new philosophy. One which does not rely upon star players turning up when they are in the mood.

Lasagna gate and Chelsea 2012 are obvious fuel to the 'spursy' fire, but what about that some what jammy crouch goal at city 2010 for CL? 'Spursy' would have been kaboul at the wrong end knocking it off crouch not the other way around. Luck comes both ways. It does not favor or discriminate.

Exactly.
Woodgate's goal in the League cup, our recovery from 3 goals down against Young Boys, or against Inter, Stalteri Vs West Ham, Jenas/Bentley Vs Arsenal. There are dozens of examples in the last decade where we have been lucky or performed miracles.

We have been the 5th best team out of 92 professional sides in the country for the last 7/8 years.
And 85* of those teams haven't even played in the CL, or been in a position not to qualify through bad luck.
And 85* of those teams haven't won a major cup in the last 7/8 years.
I would even guess around half the teams in the Premiership have played in the Championship in the last decade.
85* of those clubs and their fans would dream of being 'Spursy'.

If people want to use the term 'Spursy' then fine, but they should use it in the context of achievement not failure.

* This is a rough guess so don't get pedantic on me!

Just like with Yid, take it, own it, make it a positive.

Then 40 years later we can have some non entity comedian claiming that it's offensive!

"Spursy" is describing phenomena relative to Spurs itself and (failure to reach) own potential, relative to 91 other clubs.
In fact, the original meaning was about classy Spurs players who was never able to reach their own potential when it mattered.

Come the end of this season when we've won the title, beaten Westam in the FA cup final and beaten Anderlect in a pen shoot out for the Europa we will have finally exorcised the Spursy demons.

The problem with expunging it is that other fans use it. Now we have taken ownership of it like we did with yids. Our own fans use it to mean different things and i don't really see the harm in it. Another phrase we could do that with, and forgive me for mentioning it (it actually makes me grimace) is st totteringham's day but with this twist.
The day in which we are higher than them in the table and its mathematically impossible for them to overtake us. Do we then take ownership of that phrase too? Hence making it forever redundant to them cnuts, a day to be celebrated and enjoyed.
Just a thought.
Il go back to shadows now, as you were.

We are the 6th biggest club in the country yet have averaged 5th for several years as well as playing CL football and winning a pot.
We have not failed to reach our potential we have surpassed it (just).

So I will repeat the case for 'Spursy' being a sign of achievement rather than failure.

If the phrase was coined in the 90's then fair enough but I have only heard it used in the last few years which have been our most successful for a couple of decades.
We've got to watch classy players such as Carrick, Berbatov, Davids, VdV, Bale, Modric etc, as opposed to Edinburgh, Thelwell, Austin etc, so if that's now 'Spursy' it should be celebrated.
Not a self imposed label for disenchanted fans who have imposed unrealistic targets on us.
