I've just finished listening to the podcast interview with Greg Stobart and I fully believe that, right now, our bracket of player is the £8-£18m range. I knew the interviewer was going to say Strootman as a player we should be signing, but Greg was 100% correct when he said you need to be signing him from PSV for the £15m Roma paid.

So, if we need to sell 5-6 and bring in 3-4 in that price bracket, anyone got any suggestions?

Like I said, just thinking out loud, but interested to see who you think we should sign this summer

Honestly I don't think we should sign anyone other than a LB, and we should sell and replace Lloris and Vertonghen because they will ultimately want away.

Our major problem is a lack of stabiltiy and continuity, and if we ransack and change our squad every year how will we ever progress?

At the moment that seems likely, but things change quickly in football. If LVG arrives in the summer and we make a couple of early and impressive signings in the summer, he may well be able to convince Lloris and Vertonghen to stay. Lloris in particular we shouldn't be so willing to let go, he's one of the best in the world in his position and whilst he may be downhearted at the moment, he doesn't seem to have the (unwarranted) arrogance of Vertonghen.

Well onto personal feelings, agree with you. I would love to keep Lloris and if we can and keep him happy we should.

Vertonghen on the other hand, i feel we should get rid of (cash in) in any event, I don't believe that he is as good as he thinks he is and others think he is, and I think he has the potential to be a massively devisive and destabilising charachter

Yeah but I think since of their ages they wouldn't count as the 25-man squad and the 7(?) or 8(?) homegrown players needed... So thinking of players odler than 21

Most likely players on the fringe will go, people like Capoue, Chadli, Sigurdson. Can't see the main bulk of the squad being moved on. I feel we're at a cross roads now, need it to be confirmed whats happening at the end of the year be that Tim or LVG, this season could go very horribly wrong.

Whoever our next coach wants, within budget, defence is top priority now though, we can't have this crisis at the back every season.

I don't agree with this notion that we need to sell 5-6. How about we give our new signings a chance to settle? Unless you're advocating selling the players like Lennon, Dawson, Naughton, Townsend etc.. then you might have a point...

His quality is undeniable, but he's just as prone to concentration lapses and errors as most PL defenders.

It's interesting that he got seven goals last season and only has one this time. Demonstrative of apathy?

Even players who want to leave usually wait until the season's over to set the wheels in motion. We're chasing Champions League and are through to the last 16 of a major European knockout competition, the players should be entirely focused on that. The fact that they aren't tells me the harmony is totally wrong and Sherwood (his fault or not) isn't the man for the job.

Someone posted some comparative stats on him yesterday in another thread which were interesting and showed that he has dramatically gotten worse in 5 out of 7 key areas this season as opposed to last. Maybe it was @SargeantMeatCurtains? I will try find the post if i can. Must have been in the Vertonghen thread.
