Lets buy the shit-hot wonder kid then
I'm not sure they'd be willing to sell or that Saint-Maximin (the player in question) would want to come.

For Monaco it'd be much more lucrative to sell Lemar at a massive fee, bring Saint-Maximin back from loan, and give him the chance to establish himself as a player worthy of a huge fee himself than it would be to keep hold of Lemar and sell Saint-Maximin at a relatively small fee. It's not as though there will be any shortage of interested buyers for Lemar this window.

For the player he'd probably take one look at what has happened to the last two 20 year-old French wingers we bought on the back of their breakout seasons and say no thanks.

We've gone from 5/2 to 10/11 favourites on skybet today.. Make of that what you will.
All that means is that some drunk idiots saw that "Sidibe Instagram like" story and put money on him to us, bringing the odds down. How many times do we have to go through this here. Bookies don't go on ITK or rumours, only on hard cash.

Erm.. Hard cash causes fluctuations in the market, hence why prices drift. One of two bets make no difference, multiples bets do. This has been discussed on here not so long ago.

Also, the Sidibe story happened days ago. His price has come down twice (From 3-1, 5-2, now 10/11) since that story broke.

Bookies only take tiny bets on these markets .prob £50 max if you're lucky .Literally 2 or 3 bets will move a price .Not like a favourite at Ascot haha

It's not really comparable, Lemar is a key player at a CL semi-finalist and a league winner. His CV is much, much better than N'Jie and N'Koudou. No way he'll get the same treatment as them.

In an article about Lacazette by Jason Burt:

Monaco expect to keep Mbappe for at least one more season – if they can get him to agree a new contract – and will resist all offers for another player Arsenal are interested in, midfielder Thomas Lemar, because they will not let both him and Tiemoue Bakayoko go in the same summer. They are close to agreeing a deal to sell Bakayoko to Chelsea.

I agree Lemar is a different situation altogether, I was talking about the hypothetical possibility of us buying the less established player who Monaco have penciled in to replace Lemar.

So we want him cheap, and after they've sold 3/4 first team players. Anybody still has hope about this one?

He's been named as a starter* in the team for France tomorrow night. Hugo also retains his place after his cock up at the weekend.

- Sky Sports runs speculative transfer news suggesting a player is going to a certain club
- Sky Bet offers attractive odds to scoop up interest, linked to directly from story
- Sky Sports tweets odds next to story, as if coincidence & not both produced by same company
- Punters take up bet in volume, pushing odds down
- Sky Sports shift focus of player move to different club, seeing previous odds drift
- Repeat

Surely in this instance this fails at the first hurdle as Sky Sports haven't linked us to Lemar once.

So no one fancies discussing the Telegraph's story that Lemar is staying with Monaco as they don't want to sell both Lemar and Bakayoko this summer, and they are set to sell Bakayoko to Chelsea? (As posted by
@DezFitz above.)

Seems very plausible to me, no matter how much Monaco might be a selling club, I can't see them flogging all of their star players this window. Feels like a repeat of the summer that we tried to sign Schneiderlin from Southampton, but it never happened because Arsenal and Liverpool had already got in and signed a number of their stars.

Imho to sign players that may be our ideal choice, that starts off at an achievable price pre TW, will be nigh on impossible once it actually gets into gear. Reason, prices goes up, and we just cannot compete due to our constraints. No use blaming Daniel. It is life, until things change for us.

I don't know, I don't watch Sky Sports constantly. But this tends to be how it goes. My point was that temporary odds, as others have said, have naff all to do with likelihood when it comes to the heavily manipulated market of football betting

Sky Bet has tried to stir up interest in Lemar: https://thisisfutbol.com/2017/05/bl...atest-tottenham-in-the-running-to-sign-lemar/

I would imagine if there's any nibble they will start pushing it. I think the combination of player and club in this case are not clickable enough tho. Not quite Sanchez to City...

For me, reports linking us to Demari Grey seem far more likely to happen then any chance we might have of signing Lamar. It would, have been a very hard transfer to pull off without the other Monaco stars being sold let alone with 3 or 4 leaving prior.

This is my fear, and why I just can't see this going through. Which is gutting but to be expected.

I think Lemar is probably gettable talent wise in terms of competition we would face for him so seems a question of Monaco willing to sell and obviously whether we are making a too good to refuse offer which is not how we operate.

A good dribbler but unclear what his output will be goals wise in a tougher league from the limited amount I have see of him and a less clear ceiling than say Martial who it's clear (developed correctly) will be top bracket so can understand a desire not to go way too over the top on the fee here

He sits in the bracket above N'koudou and N'Jie but with enough questions over his true ceiling that the very elite teams won't be as interested I think at this point at least

Sometimes you just get a feeling that a deal isn't going to happen - and regrettably I get that here. There are a number of reasons, but not least among them is that Monaco will be selling to others (with deeper pockets) first, and won't want to turf out the whole side.

So it looks a non-starter to me. Which is a shame, as we could really, really do with a left footed AM. Lamela, talented though he surely is, has now had two pretty much season long injuries. That's far from ideal given the importance of the position he plays
