But our first 11 is pretty damn good already, hence why we came 2nd. The superstar players who would instantly improve our first 11 out out of our reach wages wise.

So they only way we can conceivably improve is if to buy other quality players who can provide genuine competition for the first team. Like Lemar.

But the thing is we're predicating Lemar's quality on his performances in the same league that GKN performed well in and had he stayed another year at Marseille, could've possibly matched or performed better.

I just don't see the appeal in buying Lemar when GKN hasn't been given an opportunity. Especially as we're dealing with players who share similar playing characteristics and while GKN has the benefit of having a year with Poch and his training/ethos.

They don't really share the same characteristics. Go and read a bit about Lemar. He's a far more complicated and nuanced player than your typical dribbler who clings to the wing. Actually suits our system down to the ground.

Fair enough, but don't forget Lemar didn't just play well in the French league. He was also an integral part of a team which got to the CL semis and seems far more of a polished all round performer than GKN at the moment to my eyes.

I agree dagraham, Lemar looks a good player. I just wonder if we're better off putting our energy into helping GKN reach his potential. Maybe i've been spoilt by Poch transforming Rose, KW, etc into better players that I'm not ready to give up on GKN. But if Poch and his team feel there's no hope for GKN and Lemar offers better value moving forward, I'll support that decision.

Starting tonight. Hopefully he turns in a bit of a dud so as not to add too many extra millions to his price tag !:sneaky:

Yeah I get what you're saying, but I think if Poch and the coaching staff thought he was ready to make an impact he would have been given more minutes like Winks.

There's no room for sentiment in football. All the other teams around us will be improving their squads and if we get a chance we need to do the same.

In most of the YouTube videos Lemar does not feature as a winger and nor is he tonight. Certainly he plays left midfield but not wing.

I don't really see where he fits into our team. He's not really like Mané and I think that's what we need, especially at Wembley.

I'm sure we've done our homework though.

Better than njie and GKN. Will be a tough purchase to complete. Shining on champions league and international stage.
Mbappe and Dembele are superb.

As for Lemar, what I liked about him last night is that not only is he quick (although not compared to Dembele and Mbappe!) he is a player that always has his head up, uses the ball well and looks to whip in dangerous early crosses. He might not have the insane trickery of Dembele but he's well out of our reach now. I really think Lemar would be a great signing.
