That's such a poor argument - when you make cl you are able to attract and afford better players and a broader squad in order to be able to compete in the league and the cl

To get the better players and a broader squad you need to first make cl - that should be our priority I'm my view

Our squad isn't good enough or broad enough to compete on both fronts if we make cl hopefully we can successfully invest in order to make it good enough

IMO this performance was a direct result of the physical and emotional drubbing that we took on Thursday. As such, blame must go to AVB, whose team selection and tactics were at fault for the Inter game going into extra time. I just hope that this run of results doesn't derail the rest of our season, but I'm not optimistic.

We have a lot of power and pace which gets us pretty far but when you need that guile and intelligence to adjust on the fly we fall flat.

We are a one dimensional side, a very good one mind but will always come unstuck at point.

But after beating Arsenal and creating a gap we have since pissed away 6 points and they will (as they always do) go on to over take us I am sure

I think we'd be smart to make the Europa our priority right now because looking at that I think both Cheslea and Arsenal will beat us to the CL places and at least in cup format with a favourable draw we have a half decent chance of some glory in Europe

Except we'll bottle the Europa too and probably lose to Chelsea.

I'm starting to think it really is in the DNA of the club to fuck it up all the time.

this is the result of playing too many first 11 players in 2 games against inter they shouldve been rested

can't see us finishing in the top 4 if avb continues putting put a strong team against basel

would be interested to see what our results were like when we were playing the europa games before christmas because it suddenly occurs that we went on that run when we didnt have to deal with those games

I've said it a few times but bale needs to get back to the left. Clearly he can do some great things through the middle but when teams prevent him from getting space outside the box and stop him from running he can't do anything to influence the game. He isn't a number 10 and doesnt have the creative ability or vision to play there imo. At home I'd play bale on the left and then let him have a more free role away from home.

I honestly think our midfield is woeful at the moment. Without lennon and bale through the middle we have absolutely no width. We have very little creativity through the middle now that vdv and modric have gone so where exactly are the strikers getting the chances from? The midfield create very few opportunities for them imo. Some pretty passing on the halfway line and very little else unless Bale or Lennon can make something happen. That said Defoe's miss there was pathetic. Puts it in the middle of the goal exactly where the keeper will be.

I would honestly rather win the EL then make the CL, but see what you are ssaying. But I think the problem is the liverpool game killed our confidence, we need to bounce back pretty quick otherwise....

This was the most incompetent tactical mess I have seen since AVB took over. Even worse than Milan. Why did we need Dempsey Defoe Dempsey and Ade at the same time ?? Why was Bale playing RM ?? Wtf was our best midfielder taken off ?? The formation in the first half was a joke and the second nobody knew where they were supposed to be playing

Yep. AVB playing Dempsey twice is a very neat party trick but you've got to wonder why he did it?
