Is this the first time that front-4 have started a match? We have to keep it like that for a run of games, if they're that good together after one game they'll be incredible after 10+. The problem might be keeping them all fit, and in Ade's case, interested!

It was fairly clear Sherwood didn't fancy Capoue.

Who cares anyway. Water under the bridge now. Tim got us into Europe and Capoue now has the platform to prove his worth with a manager that rates him.

Because I heard him say it.

It wasn't an 'excuse' - he said it when he had just started as manager. I'm not sure if we'd even played a match, but if so it was only one and he hadn't had a chance to include or exclude anyone in the squad.

The comment was, as I said, intended to illustrate how unfamiliar he was with the first team and the whole point was not to comment on individual players, it was to air his annoyance at having been excluded from first team training.

IIRC, it was in response to a query about why he had just selected Bentaleb for his first senior match. He was making the point that he was familiar with the youth squad and knew Bentaleb could cope (and, of course, he was correct), but didn't know much about Capoue (who played in a similar position) because he hadn't been permitted to watch him train.

Capoue as an individual was just an example. It wasn't about him and certainly was not intended as a comment on Capoue's abilities.

This is a very good example of how internet factoids get a grip. People don't recall the precise wording of what was said, nor the context. Instead, they recall what fans said about it on websites days or weeks later. My brain doesn't work like that. I remember the words and the occasions hen they were spoken.
If I can watch all the games from last season, im sure Tim could have.
Do you think Capoue would still be here if Tim got the gig?
Tim did nothing but slate player's publicly.
Even Levy made a statement after Tim publicly said our players are not good enough.
Levy said well be strengthening in key area's, not a squad overhaul.

Don't you think Tim got himself sacked because of these kind of comments, if he had said something like "tactically bentaleb I felt was the man to make a difference" he would have looked brilliant but instead he kind of be little Capoue / came across as a tosser. We should be greatfull to Tim for many things Kane, Bentaleb and Milo's and elevating our accademy perception and proving youth players can out perform 17-27 million pound signings if given the chance.

Later on, there was rumour that Sherwood got the impression that Capoue didn't train hard enough and that this was why he wasn't being selected. I have no idea why that would be so and I'm basing it solely on leaks last season.

It seemed implausible at the time, given Capoue's performances before his injury - and it seems even less convincing this season. Perhaps Sherwood got a bad first impression, based on one incident, and jumped to a conclusion. He seemed to do that rather a lot with certain players...

But his only public comment about Capoue was what I said and when I said.

Two games in and I'm suddenly wildly optimistic about our prospects this season. I look forward to the crushing comedown due sometime next Sunday afternoon.

Probably not. See my post immediately above.

That's absolute bullshit. Sherwood said nothing of the kind about Capoue. Never. That's the internet factoid. It never happened.
We won, were spurs fans fcuk arguing about previous coaches, lets celebrate instead:)

We must keep calm now, yes enjoy this massive performance, but stay down to earth.

Poch is here for a long time and we will only get better, but if we would Get 5th or 6th this season that would be good - considering it's his first season..

Helps to udnerstand that we won't always play at todays tempo or style, I'm positive Poch will attack some teams, but then set us up very difficult to breakdown against other teams (ala Mourinho @ Chelsea).

I like what he says though, everything is unimportant apart from learning and playing to the philosophy.

I think Ade being interested won't be a problem once the team start scoring and playing together like they did today. We all know the ego he's got. He certainly won't want to miss out on the glory.

Looked a very good performance on MOTD albeit against a shite team.

I know its only one performance and we made hard work of it midweek, but fuck me - to see some of that interchangeable forward linking and movement was a joy to watch.

Especially after the AVB days.
