I'd like us to sign Casillas, Javi Navarro, Lucho Gonzales and Arteta. And yes, I do crave the heady mix of unrealistic expectations and anger/despair that follows. I'm a yid.

I think most people would say Appiah had a very good WC, but what the majority think often means jack shit, so you could be right. I was impressed with him and Ghana in general. According to Appiah himself, he came close to joining Arsenal as a result. Also Ghana beat the Czech Republic 2-0. And to be fair, i think "limped out" is a bit harsh. They lost to Brazil and still had more of the possession. Without their star player and with a man sent off, I don't think they did too badly against the favourites. They are only Ghana!

sorry had Czech on the brain becasue that was the game i finally appreacited how awseome Essien is. I meant of course to write Italy.

Ahem to the majority knowing jack shit

We differ in opinon on Appiah from what we saw. I saw a captain who had to be ousted in his leadership role and out perfomed by Essien for the team to improve.

And yes i think I do mean limped. It's not the fact an average Brazil team won.. that could happen it's the fact Ghana without Essien produced a level of perfromacne way below the previous 2.5 games and that thier cpt in particaullr wasn't very good.

finally a CM at 27 (if you trust his passport of course) in the prime of his carrer was shipped out the 3rd best league in the owrld into the 6th or 7th and Everton are the best team to so far seem to have the most plausible links. The Arseanl and Juve links i choose to treat with suspicion.

Out:

Tainio - can't question the commitment, but just can't cut the mustard and is too injury prone.

Gardner - has been of great service to us, but whilst we have him on the books we will always see him as a defensive option - which given his track injury record he is not.

Ekotto - why did we buy him and why is he still here?

Stalteri - we need a decent challenger at RB and salty is not it, get him out and someone new in. This would also let Chimbo cover at CB if needed.

Routledge - great prospect but not for us.

In:

RB: Not sure who for this one, someone up and coming.

CB: Naybet - but not Naybet obviously, but you get my point, today's version of Naybet.

Creative midfielder: Riquelme or possibly Diego would be great signings.

Hard-ass midfielder - Poulsen looks like a great option, or possibly Appiah.

LW: Someone, for the love of god SOMEONE. Ben Arfa, MGP, whoever - we just need someone to play there.

But they weren't 2-0 down against Italy early on either. italy didn't score their second until the final 10 minutes. It doesn't mean a great deal but Essien was named MOTM against Czech and Appiah was named MOTM against the USA. I still maintain "limped" out is harsh. They might not have been the best Brazillian side ever, but they were all world class players. Just look at the difference in quality:
DIDA (GK), CAFU (C), LUCIO , JUAN, EMERSON, ROBERTO CARLOS , ADRIANO, KAKA, RONALDO, RONALDINHO, ZE ROBERTO

Compared to (club they played for in brackets):

Kingson (Ankaraspor)
Gyan (Modena)
Mensah (Cremonese)
Pappoe (Hoepel Kfar Saba)
Shilla (Asante Kotoko)
Muntari (Udinese)
Appiah
Amoah (Vittesse)
Paisil (Tel Aviv)
Addo (Roda)
Draman (Genclergirlgi)

I haven't even heard of most of those players and half those clubs. Getting to the second round was a great achievement. When you consider they lost 2-0 to Italy with their star player and not having a man sent off, 3-0 really isn't that bad. When you consider they replaced Essien with Shilla, it's like England losing Gerrard and replacing him with Fae (SK's favourite Reading player).

does make me wonder why so many people are so keen to get rid of Teemu - he doesn't command a massive wage, he's happy to warm the bench and play pretty much anywhere across the middle if asked. He's a committed player who tackles non-stop and can hit the target once in a while. If i could find any fault with him right now it'd be his stamina, as he can't last more than 70 minutes before he's blowing out of his arse, and he does appear to have a bit of an injury jinx right now, but that can be said for pretty much every player on our side recently.

If Ramos' new coaching regime and nutritionalists can indeed work the magic we hope of them and get our squad fit enough to play a full 90 minutes, without burning out and conceding in the dying seconds, then doesn't it make you think maybe these injuries will become less common as fitness levels improve too?

Personally i see Teemu as being with us for a very long time and, if what i hope comes to pass and he does become fitter and tougher for the change of coaching, with the effort he puts in naturally, he could really be a superb player.

I have mentioned him before(2 years ago),Luka Modric would be an absolutely fantastic signing in midfield, buy a good left back, keep Bale in midfield and buy a good right back.Get rid of the deadwood and Ramos will improve and develop the rest of the players we already have. That will be more than enough to see us through until the summer and then Ramos can bring in a few more quality 1st teamers, job done!

I agree, he's looked top class in both the games against England. His team mate at Zenit, Tymoschuk is also excellent and would be great for our CM, but he'd cost at least 15 million euros and is 27.

Appiah isn't the man. At the worldcup Appiah cpt of ghana, wore the no.10. in the first half of the Czech game everything went through him. Essien took a back seat. before they new it Ghana were 2-0 down and looked a shambles. There was a moment you could see in the second half where Essien went "fuck this for a game of soliders" and metophorically brushed Appiah aside and took over the ghanain team. everything then went through Essien and Ghana, although still lost the Czech game, finished the better side. Then the next two group games, ran by Essien, Ghana were excellent and Appiah a relative passenger. Essien was then suspended for the 1st knock out round, Appiah resumed control and Ghana limped out.

I very much disagree with most of this. Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard had shit WC's. Appiah equiped himself well and he is a different player to Essien who, although is a tough little bugger, really flourishes when playing further forward. Whilst Appiah, who is OK going forward, I think prefers to play a little deeper and burst occasionally. And Ghana in general were impressive against quality opposition and the score the went out to Brazil flattered Brazil completely.

I would like a quality goalkeeper, a quality experienced CB with Leadership ability, a midfielder also with some leadership ability, and a creative (ideally a left sided pacey one, but basically someone who can unlock or at least destable defences in some shape or form that is different to waht we ahve as we are very predictable at times)

Well, it's a guessing game, and all we have to go on is the type of game Ramos played at Sevilla, and who would fit into it. In theory, all our current players could—if Zokora could regularly replicate his form against Bolton last season, if Jenas could play the way he did against Wigan every week, we'd have no problem; both could fit very well into a Ramos midfield.

It's also ironic that our victorious line-up against the Wiggies was, with the exception of Kaboul, the same as the one that equalled our best-ever points haul over the last dozen games of a season. So much for those who were calling for the introduction of Taarabt and Prince Bong and Cerny. Ramos' notion of our best starting XI from the players we have available may be little different from Jol's. Surprise, surprise. Yes, there were tactical differences, particularly a higher line, but I suspect that we will have to make do and mend until May.

For a whole variety of reasons, very little happens in the January transfer window; the only 'big' signing we've made in recent seasons has been Defoe, and, to the best of my recollection, the only 'big' January signing anyone has made has been Saha. Well, whatever.

A cheeky bid for Cannavaro, his quality and leadership would be second to none.

We need an experienced CB, a better right back, and a defensive midfielder.

I'd take any of the following:-

Appiah
Modric
Diego
Alves
Capel
Gonzales
Xavi
