Bit random. whats jason euell got to do with anything?
I recently quoted the stats from the Torygraph to illustrate this:

(scroll to bottom)
and:

There is virtually no difference in their shot accuracy, and Bent actually converts a higher proportion of his on-target shots. Perhaps more surprisingly, their passing accuracy is pretty much on a par.
Of course, as Ledge says, Berbatov brings a whole lot more to the party than goals, but considering Bent's time on the pitch has been pretty limited and his appearances fragmented, one can hardly say he hasn't chipped in with a decent share of goals—and that was, I thought, what we'd bought him for.
How many Premiership goals has Berby got in total now? I thought he'd have 25 or more. Can't be far off 25 surely!
Whats the second column on that page all about?
I counted Berbs assists the other day - and I make it 16 - I also remember Keane missing a pen v Arsenal that cost Berb an assist and probably cost us the game - had Berbs taken it it's likely he'd have an extra goal and assist to his name
also Berbs has played a crucial in lots of other spurs goals with his link up play
You can't claim a goal and an assist for the same goal, buddy. That's just daft!
who else is gonna get the assist?
Not every goal has an assist to it, and not every pass that goes on to result in a goal is classed as an assist.
You can have a goal with no assist quite easly.
Sorry, but you simply cannot classify winning a free-kick as an assist.
I can't count them because they aren't, unless you're stretching the definition to ridiculous lengths. Why not credit the pass or throw-in that led to the assist as an assist?
I don't think winning a free kick should ever be rewarded - it's not like any modicum of skill or talent has lead to it, in fact it should only really involve punishment
To concede a foul is to break the rules - if you succeed in winning a free kick that someone scores from then you've taken advantage of the opportunity - if we started rewarding those who claim the fouls then we'd see chuds like Drogba flailing even more, topping all the assist tables for free-kicks earned and completely distorting the figures.
If a player has battled into a shooting opportunity, actually creating a chance from nothing obvious THEN he's bought down then maybe i could see why that might count, but just picking up the ball and ending up on the floor from a spurious toe into the heel shouldn't be worthy of any kind of reward, even if it's just a number in a stattos chart
