What we should say, by the way, to piss them off even further is:

"Well, it was a top 4 referee decision. The refs always favour the top 4 clubs over the strugglers..." !!!!

The way I see it he went to control it with his chest, succeeded, but the ball then hit the top of his left arm. Should it have been a Freekick? No because the officials have to be sure and they couldn't have possibly been able to tell.

It wasn't deliberate so I'm going to remember it as one of the finest goals I've ever seen in a NLD.

Looked fine to me from the Park Lane, and watching it since on Sky+ HD, I'm 90% sure he caught it just below his collarbone, between his shoulder and his chest. Should only have been disallowed if it was a clear cut handball, which it plainly isn't, the goal was rightly awarded.

Didn't occur to me at the time that it might be handball
but the more I watch it the more uncertain I get.

So I'm going to stop watching it.

there was no conclusive camera shot and from the side where the ref and line-o were they couldn't have given it.
BUT anyone thats watched enough football knows taking the ball like that on his peck and shoulder at the angle means that it must have had a second touch further down his arm to make the ball drop down for the half volley.

Glenn hoddle was quite right though, no picturse clearly showed the seond touch so the ref couldn't give it.

It wasnt handball for me, he clearly twists his body in the air to bring it down in the position it was, his arms were in that position to cushion the ball so it didnt bounce away from him. Great goal, great player... fuck the gooners!

VDV now has 4 goals in 3 games against Arsenal, how many assists has he made? I am sure he has made at least 2 meaning in 3 games he has directly contributed to 6 goals against them.

Even when he does not play to his best he can be clinical and he has the big game mentality, does it when it counts (scored the opener too against Inter at home)

I think we have to find a formation that allows him to play with Adeabyor without being determental to our midfield and defence. Sandro and Parker will surely be key to this

VDV either in the hole behind Ade with Lennon and bale on the wings with one of Parker/Sandro partnering Modric or Modric BAle and VDV playing behind Ade supported by a base of Parker and Sandro

It is a difficult one.
On the one hand, Sandro/Parker as the foundation is clearly going to bring us more results - but it requires width from the full-backs, I have never liked Modric on the right, and VDV just cannot get through the work to help Walker out sufficiently.
On the other hand, Modric with Sandor or Parker gives us far better balance further forward, but, as we saw yesterday, against better team who flood the midfield it can leave us vulnerable.

I suppose the obvious answer is to play the former away and against the better teams, and the latter at home and against weaker teams - but I have never seen any inclination from Redknapp to mix his formations in this way.

When the commentators suggested it was handball I said to my missus that it was pointless me watching it again and again as I will always see it as chest and Arsenal fans will always scream it was handball. Still having done exactly what I said I shouldn't I fully believe it was just sublime control by VDV.

Harry already cleared everything up in his interview:

"Never in my mind it was handball. I haven't seen it. You know I dontknow. I haven't seen the goal since. But I never [incoherent mumbling]. But the ref didn't give it whatever it was and it was a goal so that's the end of that one."

Never a truer word spoken.

Not clear cut enough to be given so the ref and linesman done a good job in this instance to not rule out the goal which may not have been the case with another set of officials.

Isn't life grand when we get leadership and clarity from our manager

In this instance, Blatter was clearly right about replays. Cases like these highlight the importance of keeping things totally unfair against Arsenal and to the letter of the law.

If anything VDV's arm only got in the way of his sublime technique and prevented Arsenal conceding an even more powerful and spectacular goal which would have gone onto inspire the team to win by an even greater margin. So, actually, Arsenal should be thankful for the goal standing and saving themselves further embarrassment. :)

It happened so quick I wonder whether Rafa even knows. But he did have a very quick glance at the Lino which is always a guilty sign

It could have gone either way, even with slow motion replays we still don't know, so how in gods name could the ref see it clearly enough to give against the attacker in real speed from his position?

You win some, you lose some. And it was a clinical finish from VdV, he still had a lot to do
