I'm far from blown away by what I've seen of him but I don't actually mean that as a negative because I've never actually watched him in a full match, just from Youtube videos. I don't have a problem with him being similar to Kane (a little heavy looking but a good finisher) as I'm just happy to have another bloody striker but in truth I think we need another striker anyway who would ideally be of a more pacy nature but I don't think we'll get one.

Daniel Levy can't win. If he's refuses to budge when buying a player he's seen as being tight

I hope he does play players on merit rather than name but I think unless they player exceptionally well he won't.

He seems to trust the more experienced players more.
That is sure to piss players off then.

Pleased to get a striker early in the window, my concern is that he is too similar to Kane, when we play teams that park the bus it could be a problem. Another concern is that Poch will pull a Wimmer and just promote Kane over him even when he does well .
Seems odd to hear the words "too similar to Kane". I would take 2 Harry Kanes anyday :D
Add 2 Alderweirelds, Dier (Wanyama possibly?) and Dembele and we're laughing

Given that Kane can also play 10 well enough another Kane would be just fine. Not sure Janssen can play behind though?

If we have two Kane's and we have one of them wheeled out purely for cup games and covering for injury and suspension while at the same time not winning anything or making the CL then one of them will leave. Where as if we have a player that offers something different to Kane , can play a few other positions we can keep him for longer and give him more games.

I guess we'll see how they work as a partnership. I don't think it will be an issue. Particularly as Kane covers a lot of ground and drops into space anyway. It will just be a matetr of getting the understanding right so if one drops in the other plays off the shoulder. Kane is pretty versatile but not sure if Janssen as haven't really seen him.

My worry is that they will be like Defoe and Bent, just too similar to play together.

Sheringham and Klinsmann was an amazing partnership and neither was blessed with pace, same goes for Berbatov and Keane. I have no worries.

This.

Kane can play the 'Sheringham role' as well as playing as a centre forward so not sure why it's felt Janssen is too similar to him.

I would think Kane could partner most forwards really as long as he isn't being pushed out wide *cough* Woy *cough* :cautious:

They all offered something different and complemented each other, while Keane and Defoe or Defoe and Bent or Bent and Keane just didn't work.

Yeah but Kane is a completely different (and far less limited) player than Defoe or Bent?

The last bit says why Poch chose him.....

There are not many strikers in the Netherlands who play like Janssen. He is a one-man army, a team player and a goalscorer rolled into one. Ruud van Nistelrooy seems the best comparison. Vincent says with a smile: “He’s from the town of Oss, just like me. Well, I understand that comparison, although clearly I’m not at the same level as he was at his best, of course. He was also not supertechnical but tremendously focused and driven. I’m going to do everything for a career like he had. Even if I have to put my hand into fire.’

I think having Kane in a supporting role takes away from the attack, when we are chasing a game we need him where he is best. They also need to play together long enough to get an understanding. He doesn't have the sheringham,Berbatov type of intelligence to unlock teams in that way.

I think he'll play in one of the two forward roles with Kane. Lamela and Son are great but we need more goals from those positions and he could be the answer.

If Janssen performs well enough could anyone see us setting up like a 4-2-4, similar to how City did at times when they were at their absolute best a couple of years ago. We could even see Dier and Wanyama partnered to give us a bit more licence to use out attacking players with a bit more freedom. Something like:

Lloris
Walker - Toby - Jan - Rose
Dier - Wanyama
Lamela Eriksen
Janssen - Kane

With Eriksen drifting central to build up play like he did a lot of last season and Rose and Walker with even more licence to push further up with the knowledge that they've got the two dedicated DM's behind them. I guess it's similar to how we set up last season but with more attacking licence given to the forward players and full backs and with two dedicated DM's rather than a DM and a transition player like Dembele.

I remember seeing a few graphics showing that from goal kicks we would often sit Dier and Dembele close to the CB's with the full backs and forward players pushed right up the pitch, effectively splitting the defensive half in 2, turning the most advanced area into, at worst a 4 on 4, at best a 6 on 4, near their half. The two additions so far could perhaps allow us to implement that particular tactic more effectively.
