We are too good for a player like Shane Long

I'm sick to death of this elitist attitude around Spurs- how we're always "too good" for such-and-such player, how so-and-so is "mid-table at best," how this one or that one isn't "good enough" for Tottenham- especially where strikers are concerned. A Johan Elmander, a Kevin Davies, a Demba Ba--- hell, even Dean Sturridge was thought not to be up to par Spurs-wise…

My point is that the club think they're better than they are, and as a result never go for the hard working grafter types, and yet how much could we do with someone of that ilk…imagine Shane Long on our team; he'd be a damn sight better playing up front with Adebayor that Loldado! Is he a world-class continental talent? No- but he gets stuck in and scores goals. So why is he on Hull and not us? How come we never try and land a decent, non-sexy forward?

I thought he would have been a sensible option for us this window, he was cheap, as his contract was coming to an end, and at 25 ( I think) we were always going to get our money back if it didn't work out.
As to what he would have given us on the pitch, he can play on his own or with a partner, so would have been ideal if Ade got injured ( a thought which scares the life out of me )
He's always on the move, and unsettles defenders, and it may just be me, but I see something of Robbie Keane in him, I'm sure Long hasn't hit his peake yet, there is much more to come from him IMO.

FFS. He's 27. He works hard because if he didn't he wouldn't have a top flight career.

Don't exactly agree but the determination and grit shown by shane long, and in fairness the whole Hull team was fantastic yesterday, they always seemed to want it more. First to the ball and into a tackle. Put us to shame.

With a bit more desire yesterday, and yes maybe a Shane long type on our team we would have had 3 points.

Every time we make a 'non-sexy' signing he is added to the 'deadwood' list for the next huge clearout. We're men. We like the big and shiny stuff. Functional stuff is boring. I refer you to Balotelli going out for a iron and coming back with a trampoline.

I'm more worried at the "let's all laugh at club name" threads on this site, when we seem to be the jokers

To be honest i'm glad we didn't sign Dean Sturridge, i mean he's 40 and we would surely have to question Baldini's credentials if he signed him.

Seriously?

Why?
He has looked brilliant recently, and where Lennon is unfortunately looking a little one dimensional, Johnson has a bit more about him. In effect as he knows the Prem he would bed in quickly too. Think we could do worse.

because he is getting mentioned on MOTD at the moment.
I don't pay any mind to MOTD. He seems to be maturing as a player this season. I guess it's the possibility going to a WC, but still he is showing his talent.
