the thing is, and I used to get angry with the Paulinho abuse. When a player joins any club from Brazil, they join at the end of their football season. so they usually join after a gruelling season to then start a different league, a different culture and to be honest do well to still be fit by Xmas.

if Richarlison isn't a hit this season, I really expect him to be the season after. Paulinho suffered with all that was going on with AvB and hardly played, and when he did he never played in the same position. I expect he also struggled to climatize in England which should be taken in to consideration.

I have to agree that Richarlison is a HUGE gamble at £50m. He had a good half season and then dipped hard in the second half of the season. Maybe it works out for Everton, but personally I don't think it will.

You've contradicted yourself in the first two lines mate. You say Levy "haggles so much he doesn't get a sponsor", and then say "Get the right deal and it should pay for most of the stadium". So you want Levy to get the "right deal" but not negotiate too much? That seems like a borderline oxymoron to me.
You missed out the key word in my post which was "if". I think a deal that pays for most of the stadium should be achievable. That doesn't mean you need to squeeze the pips out of it.

I think when you have just dropped almost £1 billion on a new stadium you need the pips, the rind, and the stem from every sponsorship deal you can get.

Where is the stadium naming rights deal ? If Levy haggles so much he doesn’t get a sponsor then I can understand why we are having problems with transfers. Get the right deal and it should pay for most of the stadium which would mean all of that extra matchday revenue is available for the squad. Given there has been no announcement yet my read is that means either Levy hasn’t snagged a sponsor (criminally incompetent for a CEO) or he has landed such an amazing deal that we can’t announce it because selling clubs will know we are mega flush.

If I was a Marketing Director looking to spend £20 million a year on a long term sponsorship deal I would at least wait until the thing was actually built and had been wined and dined in the corporate hospitality of a live football/NFL game before I signed up to anything. Once I had a feel for the impact of the project, and the long term prospects, I would make the decision to go ahead or not.

I'm not sure what business would sign-off on an unfinished project with that kind of money at stake.

Bit harsh neg repping @Arthur Hucksake
It's a fair question - if Poch had spent even 30-40m each summer in excess of funds received, it's beyond belief we could have won the league by now and every one else would be chasing us, not vice versa.

There's no reason, with the insane amount of income from TV deals, 3 years of Champions league football, decent domestic cup runs that we could afford to spend a little cash.

Just like that.

We're in the top 6 teams in the country and have been for quote some time.
We clearly have bigger incomes than Everton, West Ham, Newcastle etc, but they often spend more than they make, why is that?
We're NOT poor. I'm not talking about being funded by Joe Lewis and flying in the face of FFP. I'm talking about spending some of our income, which has grown insanely in the last 3 years but out spending has not.

I think if we had bought Eriksen for £30m, Alli for £20m, Dier for £15m and Trippier for £25m we would have won the league by now.

We all love Eriksen, but he's only become integral in the last 2 or so seasons. Before that he often went missing an would be criticised mercilessly here.
Perhaps Willian would have been more integral from day 1. He's rarely ever played badly for Chelsea.
Based on last season, I would be happier if we didn't play Dier so much so poor example.
Dele - a great gamble.
Trippier was bought as back up and has stepped up.

I think the point is that
because we got them cheap they can't be any good.
The demand for 'marquee' signings
(unpack the tent)
is growing.

I for one would be over the moon
if we allow some youth to step up,
and buy in some promising youngsters
and keep our wallets well hidden.
Seems to be working in terms of CL qualification.

Why have you written that in such strange sentences and paragraphs?

We have over achieved in the last 3 years.
If things stay as they are for us, Liverpool will over take us and, as usual, Chelsea, with a new manager, will probably win the poxy league.

You make it sound
as if overachieving was a bad thing.
A stable team under a stable managership structure

will certainly continue to improve
Changing managers
and buying in that expensive player
especially if he is new to the country and the League.
is often disruptive.
How does it go ?
if it ain't broke......

How do you define overachieving ? Money spent ? Or do you judge it by having 9 players in World Cup sem final, golden boot winner and winning captain. Maybe the fact Madrid would probably buy 8 of our starting xi. Some might say on those grounds we’ve underachieved.

Finishing in the top 3, 3 seasons in a row. 2 times in with a genuine shout of winning it.
Last season we fell away. Unless we bolster this season we'll drop away again.
If we drop away again, we'll slip even further back after that.

We're balanced precariously now. A tilt in the wrong direction and we're falling down.

Balanced precariously mate finished 3rd in the league with a striker and manager half of Europe would covet, last four of the cup and oh we have just smashed a CL team albeit in a friendly 4-1 with 8/9 first teamers out I would say that the club is sitting quite comfortably and an envy of many clubs in the country.

Overachieved due to resources compared to our rivals.

Which is great, but all the teams around us are going hard this year to improve and we haven't even got a championship player yet.
I may eat my words in August, but I suspect Levy will stay true to form and not spend any money.

Over achieved using less resources. I don't believe a team that takes £100m+ in tv, sponsorship and prize money can't spent a few quid more than what we make each window.
