If anyone wants a laugh then look at West Broms announcement in Twitter. Their fans appear to be less than pleased judging by some of the replies...some fucking hilarious ones. Can't paste at the moment as I'm on my phone but probably for the best since the language in most is a bit unpleasant!!!

A career win % of 40.59 at Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday suggests he is aware of what it takes to keep lower sides up. I dont know anything about Irvine but i'd venture to guess he is more tactically aware and able than Tim(although its not hard to be more tactically able than him)

Do feel rather sorry for the Brom fans but been enjoying their reaction. They are going absolutely apeshit (see http://westbrom.com/forum/index.php?topic=13829.0)

I was all ready to pity them over Sherwood too but Christ, at least that would have been halfway interesting. Appointing Irvine is just so...well I don't know really. I can understand why so many of the Brom fans are saying they're speechless because I don't quite know what to make of it myself. Just about the most uninspiring appointment I can ever recall.

There is some gold in there  and love how many of them are saying that even Sherwood would be better.

Saying that I do feel sorry for them, really weird choice as a manager when you look at who is out there and available.

SW4Baggie (West Brom forum) just changed the title of his thread to "SHERWOOD IN"

One fan on twitter doesn't seem to be too fussed. The worst he could say was "he's a championship manager" LOL. But he isn't, he's a youth manager! It makes no sense, this guy is the new Sherwood, you can forget about the 2 senior team jobs he had before Everton youth, it's pretty much the same as having had no experience. At least Sherwood has half proved himself in the Premier League. My guess is he was their first pick and for whatever reason, it hasn't worked out and my guess is it was because Sherwood wants to wait for a job which will include Ramsey and Ferdinand, who West Brom didn't want.

Been reading that Baggies thread again this morning. It's gold. Don't think I've ever seen such dismay and utter bewilderment over a managerial appointment.

Saw a Preston fan on Twitter call him "the worst thing to happen in the club's history", Wednesday fans say he was their worst manager ever! Think they'd have been better off with Dim Tim.

Massively strange appointment. I don't like Chirpwood, but he might have done a decent enough job there.

He is a highly rated no.2 tbf

I know Alan Irvine a bit from coaching circles. He's a lovely guy and a brilliant youth team coach. But he just doesn't have the steely side to be a manager. He's also incredibly cautious and underestimates the ability in his teams.

He's generally regarded as Sheffield Wednesday's worst manager of all time (and they've had some pretty terrible ones).

When candidates like Mackay, Hughton, Lennon, McDermott and Yakin are all out of work, you've got to wonder what is going on at West Brom.

Apparently he's good mates with the existing coaches there, Downing and Kiely. This seems to be crucial criteria as for some reason these two are apparently unsackable with an unusual degree of influence upon the inner workings of the club. Appears that they were the deal breaker regarding Tim too as Brom wouldn't pay Ramsey and Les more than they were already paying these guys.

Why they're considered so special I have no idea. I recall that Mel was refused permission to bring in his own staff because of them too. Very odd situation.
