Some great answers here. I think as a previous poster said we need the following: (A LOT of IFS):
1. Toby New contract
2. New Stadium
3. Top class CM, AM and back up striker
4. Poch to keep improving as a manager
5. Man.City and others to have off seasons

It can happen but unfortunately it looks very unlikely to me so mabye best bet for trophies is FA Cup or a European trophy as mad as that sounds I actually think the CL would be easier to win than the PL.

Will take far more than that to win the league. City have won every game bar one draw. Most by a mile. We would have to be doing the same or better, winning every single game, including against them. I fail to see one or two players making that difference.
I think this season is an anomoly though, can’t see city having another season like it, champions never do as the following year everyone wants to beat them and lower teams Park the bus.

All the money in the world can't buy you the ability to field more than 11 players at a time. There is a logical limit to how big the gap in the 11 best players can be, regardless of money. People who think we need more money are lacking in vision, creativity and football understand enough to come up with actual solutions.

But the same 11 cannot play all of the time and money is needed to fill out a bench with top quality players that are willing to be rotation players. These players are needed to keep the internal pressure to perform on the starters and to cover for injuries. We are not quite deep enough at the moment, but we are not far off.

I think this is an over simplification though - how much did Chelsea and Arsenal spend on attacking players last summer? We have outscored both of them.

And, we were the top scoring team last season, and 2nd highest in '15-'16.
Chelsea and Arsenal have still been winning things though, they spent 60 and 50 million on strikers this summer and this summer is what I'm talking about. Im not even asking that we spend that kind of money. I don't have unrealistic expectations of the team either, I'm just asking for a few trophies.

It's not just a question of how much we can spend on strikers, but who would want to come and sit on the bench.

We have to rotate players and we have to give younger players a chance. We can't play our strongest 11 every game. When we face weaker oposition in the cups we use it as an opportunity to do these things. Sometimes it backfires.
Every other team in the premier league does this.
We try to play our strongest team in every prem game. It's not very fair to just wheel out young players during cup competitions they get the bulk of the flack if we lose. The best teams cope with more than one competition, we don't do that very well, we need to start. We don't want to be known as a Newcastle.

Maybe. I just don't see strikers, or even attacking MFers as the current problem.

We really missed having a DM when Wanyama is out, and when Alderweireld went out, moving Dier to CB. I don't think that is a big issue moving forward. These last two matches has shown that Poch is comfortable with Sanchez and Vertonghen in teh back, with Dier in front. When Wanyama and Alderweireld get back, it gives Poch the option of going back to 3 in the back, or staying with a back 4.

With Eriksen, Dele, Son, and Lamela - I think we have a good mix of players - maybe need one more - in the AM positions.

What we really miss a dominant CM like a younger, healthier Dembele, who can control the midfield when paired with a DM.

Is also a function of money I would guess...Man City and Utd seem to manage it.
Wages more than transfer fee - and that is the biggest stumbling block. Hard to see Levy paying a striker £100+k/week to sit behind Kane. And hard to see how the existing players would be happy to see that.

And, surely you are not trying to compare our finances with Man United or Man City? That is never going to happen with Man United, and as long as City are Oil Money, we won't ever be in that league either. (Unless you can convince the world to go green...)

I'm actually happy with Son as the backup striker it makes perfect sense, he scores plenty of goals and plays in more than more one picture. I wanted us to get a couple of creative players and I would have been happy with our business. I'm talking about buying 40 million Zaha or anything like that. Just players within our budget.

As i said when we face weaker teams in the cup we rotate.
The best teasms have players worth hundreds of millions sitting on their benches. Earning more than our star players for the privilege.

A lot of cash spent on buying up every referee we can lay our hands on...

In 5 years Harry Kane will be 29, right now he's arguably the best striker in the world and over the next 5 years he'll most likely be the best or in top 3 or so. If by the time he becomes 29 we haven't managed to win a title it's a bit of a joke to be honest. Not only would we have him but an Eriksen in his prime, Son too and most likely a Dele Alli who's a world star. Sanchez will likely be one of the best CBs in Europe and Toby and Jan will likely last 3 or 4 more years. Wanyama, Dier too and hopefully Winks will grow and develop.

Around that fantastic core group of players if we can't add and create a title winning squad we as a club should be ashamed of ourselves. This season is a freak with what City are doing. You don't need to have £50m subs on the bench to win the league and our team has multiple players already in it worth 50-200m.

Two or three quality squad additions and keep the rest and I'm certain in the next 3 seasons we are going to come seriously close. Be pretty devastating not doing it in what is our golden era with Poch at healm.

Messi, Ronaldo and Maradona

I feel having them would give us a shot. Which we'd probably find a way of blowing.

Other than that, I feel that when everyone is fit, we're more or less sorted defensively and up front but probably need a bit more of something in midfield.
