They’re also losing a number of players for free as they’re out of contract (Lacazette, Nketiah, Elneny). Yes they’ll save wages there, but they literally have no strikers and they don’t come cheap.
Missing out on CL (this year of all years) would be far more damaging to them than it would’ve been to us and I would love it if we hold our nerve on Sunday.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of comments on Arse-Mania saying that they're much better set up than us for the future but I don't see it, personally. They seem convinced that we're crippled with debt and Kane and Son will leave soon, but Son's got 3 years left, Kane has nowhere to go anymore and the debt is being managed.

Add in the Conte factor, the stadium and players like Kulu, Skipp, Romero and Bentancur coming through...I think we're in a great place regardless of CL.

yes he has imo. only in their current position due to our and united's crazy seasons, helped by admittedly some good performances from their young players but also a lot of luck and playing a lot of teams at the right time (chavs, united, spam). every time he's needed to 'perform' at a high level to be the difference, they've come up short. i wouldn't trust him with a sunday league XI personally.
The arguement of 'its only good because of other teams' always rings false for me, as it's a league, it's always on other teams, and it's very difficult to compare season to season, and if you do compare it statistically it seems to suggest the opposite. It seems like the point total required for the top 4 this season is likely to be since the 2018-2019 season. Suggesting the top teams are now stronger the rest of the league in this season.

The luck thing, playing teams at the right time is also pushing it. You can always create a narrative to what is lucky and not.

Arterta has done a fine job this season. He's improved the team and Arsenal haven't been this strong in some time. Emery is a good manager who did a decent job too, Even late Wenger wasn't doing as bad as some people think, but was possibly to blame for the decline as a whole.

The reality is Arsenal are not very good player wise at all. They are a very young team with a lot of talent and 5th would be an overachievement.

Arteta this season has done very decent things, Arsenal have been, for most of the season, very reliable and very good at getting three points from teams weaker than them. Furthermore, Arsenal have built solid defensive foundations, something Arteta has been working on for some time and have now actually got a platform to play from.

Now, will Arteta be a good manager? A lot suggests he might a lot suggests he might not. But he's had a good season, to sack him for overachievement this season on top of visible progress regarding style of play and structure, would frankly show incompetence from the board.

They are losing their shit over Arteta, but has he really done a bad job?

Did anyone think at the start of the season that they were even in the conversation for top 4? The fact that he pushed it to the final day is in some way an over achievement, surely. But 5th place is par for them.

None of my many gooner friends thought they’d be anywhere near top 4.

It’s not as if they are easily the 4 best side and Champions League was the minimum requirement and they bolloxed it all up? They are where they should be.

On the other hand, not for a moment did I think we’d get champions league after the summer we had and where we were when Nuno left. That we are almost there, is down to Conte

Is the anger that he is not as good as Conte? Well, only 3 or 4 managers in the world are as good as Conte right now.
Arsenal have overachieved this season largely down to not having European games and not too many domestic cup games either. They have a big challenge next season with the extra games. They have a young squad with potential but I think they'll struggle for top 7 next season. That's unless they do something big like we did by getting Conte. Although I don't see any top manager being available to them. They should have their expectations set based on the last 5 years and not this entitled view because of where they were 20 years ago.

absolutely. getting in this season would have kept them afloat for a few seasons, missing out exactly the opposite. this season is pivotal for the both of us for different reasons. Even though we're heading in the right direction regardless, getting 4th will be a massive boost and can really push us on. Them missing it will be utterly disastrous for them, especially having it in their own hands for so long. mentally they're broken.

Last four times we’ve played at Carrow Road have ended up W0 D2 L2

Last time we played Norwich with something on the line they knocked us out of the FA Cup

Loss to Newcastle 5-1 on last game of the season when they were already relegated AND down to 10 men imprinted on my brain

Tim “fucking worldy every time I play Spurs’ Krul potentially between the sticks

It ain’t over

EDIT: Apologies, as has been pointed out, I missed a win - last 5 games at Carrow Road have been W1 D2 L2. So more iffy record rather than bogey ground
Now you've got me full on nervous :cautious:

Cup games are cup games, things happen.

That Newcastle game we were burnt out after the Chelsea game and already on holiday following losing the title. We have something to play for this time.

Fuck Tim Krul. We have Kane and Son.

We also have Antonio fucking Conte. He will not allow these players to think it's already done.

Just want to say, no matter what the weekend throws at us.

Along with @Steffen , it's been a pleasure to share your positivity & deluded belief in this club, this manager & the group of players he's figured out he can trust.

Thank you!

We’ve had the same conversation a few times over the last three years about Arteta. He just doesn’t convince at all and never has. He might get lucky at the weekend and get fourth but if he does then it really will just cover up so many problems there.

I’ve never known a manager so bad at man management at the highest level. Xhaka coming out and saying that the players didn’t follow the manager’s instructions last night just emphasises that. He is so monotone, intense and serious in interviews, has anyone ever seen him crack a joke? Imagine having that every day at training. It would become so sterile and demotivating. We’ve had Mourinho and Conte who are serious individuals but there has been evidence from former players that they are good to get on with away from training. There’s no way Arteta is like that. He just has no personality.

They were trying to sell him on the seriousness- "when he comes in a room, he has a presence and people pay attention". There's something of the Christopher Lee about him.

There is no way a single Arsenal fan would be being as gracious as some of you had we been in their position. There's none of this "oh well, they had a good season if they (hopefully) finish fifth, nobody expected them to get CL". Not a single one of them would be saying that. They'd all be rubbing it in our faces 100% to a man.

So wait until after 6pm on Sunday when hopefully we complete the mission and then give it to them both barrels. It will be all they deserve.

I really appreciate that. I'm just sick of the Spursy mentality that needs to be gone from the fanbase. I see what Conte is doing and have full faith in it.
