It didnt do Skipp any harm though. He's still only 19 but to be fair I haven't followed him to know where he is with his development. I just don't think Ligue 1 is the best step before the Premier League. We don't have great history with players there. At least with the championship you acclimatise to the English game and he's capable of starting regularly which is what a young player needs. I'm not sure what PL club would start a 19 year old in their midfield.
He’s been playing for a team that’s beem struggling badly all year. We saw what a loan for a Championship contender did for Skippy’s confidence. Winning is a habit and going to a team expected to win each week could really help
I’ll leave it at this because we are getting pretty off-topic at this point. Oliver Skipp had played less than 300 minutes of PL football when we sent him to Norwich, often as a sub in the dying minutes. He needed to go somewhere consistently to adapt to playing consistently at the senior level against professionals, not youth players. Pape Sarr, though definitely a raw talent, has played two full seasons of senior football in one of the top 5 leagues in the world, against some of the best midfielders who exist. If he’s not ready for Spurs (which is very possible) he needs a loan like Sess or Gil to a better team in a better league. He’s at a very different stage of development than Skipp with different needs.
The Championship is a good level for youth players to adjust to playing against pros. It is not a magical place where you send technical, talented senior players to get hacked down at Stoke twice a week and then they somehow come back looking like Yaya Toure. If he needs strength, you put him on a diet and strength training plan. If he needs skill and development, you send him to the best team in the world where he will play consistently.
