3rd.

Returns never go well and Mourinho will make more enemies than friends. Arsenal have made one very, very, VERY good buy in Ozil, the man's different class but it's papering over the cracks with the Mona Lisa.

United won't fall apart no matter how much we want, nor will City once alternate-universe-funkier-Wenger gets them going.

All we've got to do is tell Lamela/Chadli/Eriksen/Holtby/Sigurdsson/whoever's on the wing to PASS THE FUCKING BALL TO THAT SPANISH BLOKE IN THE BOX and we'll be fine.

5th or 6th; Eriksen and Lamela at their peaks are only going to be as good as Ozil/Cazorla or Mata/Hazard are right now. I also remain very very unconvinced by our defense sans Lloris and Vertonghen.

I think we'll get better and maybe even look unbeatable at points. But our competitors also look veeeery good. Exciting season ahead but I feel we'll come up a little short.

I said before this weekend's match 4th and I stand by that but this year is going to be a long tough battle. We've assembled a good squad over the summer and I think we have the potential to make a great side. Some top top players have been signed, it's just getting them to work together now.
I've been saying since last season that Liverpool were building a great side and I can see them pushing us/those around us all the way this year. They're looking a very dangerous side but I think their squad will let them down despite them playing less games. I just feel that a couple of injuries in key areas could cause major problems.
Despite lots of people putting Arsenal down, I've said they have a great side and Wenger knows how to get results. Ozil is a world class signing but I don't feel it really addresses their problems. The creativity isn't an issue for arsenal so although defending against them will be a scary prospect I think they will have similar problems still.
Chelsea will be title contenders. Say what you like about Mourinho, he knows how to win things and with the squad he has he'll be right up there.
Man United and City I haven't much of so I don't really know but the Fergie factor certainly is a big loss for United. I guess we'll only see in the long run...

i think we will be in the 4........just. It has to be another 'transitional' season innit? Have we not had one of these in the last ten years and most recently the disruptions with Berbs, Modric, Bale and HR leaving has not helped. Every pre season has had dramas.

How quickly can AVB get these players playing together? I think its a tough ask with so many changes. I am very optimistic about the future. We have brought in some real talent. Now they have to learn each others styles and AVB's tactics.

The basic's are there. I havent seen a Spurs side doominate possession so much like on Sunday and still end up on the losing side. AVB has the game plan but he has to make it work with what DL and FB have given him and the creativity aspect is something that needs special attention. There is depth as well so the sky is the limit. Its in our hands.

The team will need time to gel.
We have made some good signings. We've also upgraded the quality of players and have a better squad compare to last season when we finish 5th with record points and missed by 1point the CL to our rival.
The pressure comes from March to May and it is during this period that we lose or draw some crucial games. We seem now to have a squad with different mentality.
Hopefully we gel in the next few weeks and by November. We may need to tweak and see what it needed in January transfer market.
At this moment in time, after 3games, I see us as definite top 6 finish...time will tell as we gel and play our football if we can do better. My concern is from midfield to forward where we seem to lack the vision and passing. We've scored twice in the league at the moment and won two games but only on penalties and whilst we have seen a strong defensive display and possession, we have failed to score from open play. Our free kicks and corner (attacking and defending) needs to be worked on to be more effective. Now with Holtby and specially Lamela and Eriksen, I do expect improvements!

My hope and expectation is 3rd and I certainly believe this squad can do it if they gel in time. Many teams will also need time to gel. Liverpool made lots of signing, Moyes first season at Man U, Man City has a new manager and needs to learn his style of play. Mourinho is back at Chelsea and Arsenal have only signed a world class player and although many argue that they have not invested in the appropriate areas, I believe they are still a potent force.

Although we have bought 7 international players, we have only spend about £4 million.
Levy definitely needs to support AVB if needed in January!

My prediction: 3rd and Europa winners

Very hard to say but it will definitely take a good few months for all our players to bed in. Current top 4 look very strong and liverpool will be pushing hard.

5th.

I wish we could just not talk about this for a while. Lets see where we are when the players we have signed gel into a team and adjust to the Premier League. I honestly have no idea, and I don't know yet how good Chelsea, United, City, or Liverpool are.

I think we'll pretty much match are results from last year against teams below the top 6. So it will come down to our results against the other top 5. Last years was:
Man Utd - 4 points
Arse - 3 points
Man City - 3 points
Chelsea - 1 point
Liverpool - 3 points

Total - 14 out of 30. We need to improve on that or at least match it. Might be a tough ask.

5th. Don't expect this group to really kick on until next season, but you never know. Hope we can mold this team and develop their understanding, add a couple of quality signings next summer. Next season we will also have 2 chances of getting into the CL, both in the league and in EL, so even more to play for. The future is bright, very clever to add so many players this summer, and all of them pretty young too. AVB clearly wants to build something here.

I voted for fourth - that is surely our target

This season the league is more open potentially than ever before - so we really have the potential to finish higher than 4th, although the downside of that is we also have the potential to finish as low as 6th this season

I don't think we'll show the consistency to finish in the top two - so I'd say we're fighting for places between 3rd and 6th this season and I this year we'll just sneak in to the CL (although it may require further investment in Jan)

If we'd have got the players I mentioned in my 'how to win the title' post we could have had a good crack at winning it imo, but now it's 4th with a little help of things going our way. No LB, especially, is a bad bad error.

As I said in that thread, I thought you were getting way ahead of yourself thinking we could win the title whilst still needing six players.

Personally, I think we will be very competitive and who knows if all things fall into place we could mount a sustained challenge but to think we were going to buy 6 players with only a few days left of the window was unrealistic.

We signed 3 players in one day! Anything was possible this TW.

Before the signings on deadline day 4th, after them - a battle for 5th with Liverpool.

liverpool have done nothing to make me think they are as good as us. They've had a good start but meh. it's a long season, our midfield is really dominate and superior to there's and Arsenals imo. we just need to work on attacking play, looking forward to Ericksen and Holtby playing with a platform of Paulinho and Sandro to work off

Our midfield may be better, but they have added well in defence, aswell as gerrard and will have an attack of Suarez Coutinho Sturridge. It will be a good battle between the two of us.

Very hard to call, particularly given that we're relying on our new signings to become our best players.

The other top sides have all held on to their best players and we shouldn't underestimate that when we consider how good our window has been.

Given the large amount of recruitment and the loss of our best player I would accept top 6, provided we push on with our squad recruitment next summer and stop selling our best player every summer.

Having said that, we have enough quality to make a good go of pushing for the top of the table and I wouldn't rule out a very high finish if things go our way.

We could finish anywhere between 3rd-6th.
