Why do Sky hate us - my theory

I'd never noticed that before. Probably because I don't really listen to them. Probably because I was celebrating wildly at the time of the coverage. That's shocking and I'm not sure how the context led to it?

If I recall correctly, the context was that West Ham were almost certainly down after that result, though they actually stayed up by winning most of their final few games against all expectations. Still, never in the history of a match, particularly a 7 goal thriller, have I heard a more unenthusiastic commentary on an injury time winner. I was at the match and watched it again when I got home, still massively buzzing, only to think 'wtf' when I heard it.

It's far, FAR worse with the commentary by the other Sky guy - the scream of "Oh no!" is the most biased moment of commentary I've ever heard, from 3:45:

Every clubs fans think the media has it in for them.

People clearly forgetting G Nev(arguably the best pundit on UK TV), has done nothing but wax lyrical about us for two seasons.
I actually had the pleasure of meeting G Nev yesterday in Manchester, lovely fella and totally genuine. I commented on how fair he's been towards Spurs on Sky compared to most and he said "Recently"! I mentioned how times had changed since the famous "lads, it's Tottenham" days and we had some friendly banter. Thoroughly nice bloke.

I think there's a very valid point about theirs and the media in general's desire to link all of our players away all the time.

A pro-Spurs voice that argues the vision of the club would be a massively welcome addition. As would having some genuine Spurs people in the studio/co-commentary rather than loads of Arsenal folk.

It's on a consistent basis, that's the issue, once or twice could be handwaved away but it's almost every single time we are spoken of and it's unsettling, the fact Poch even felt the need to bring that up should tell us everything, normally he wouldn't ever bring these issues up.

And it's funny how it happens even more towards the end of the season as well, especially this season and last season, both times during crucial periods, look at the Walker rumors, happening right before the West Ham game, I don't think that is any coincidence whatsoever.

Fear.

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

So, in short when we win the league Sky will self combust and will no longer exist.

Never gonna happen, their model relies on it.

I believe it is going to happen, next time round or the round after. The likes of Amazon and Google may enter the rights next time round as they are all searching for ways to command the time of users (and now sports fans). Currently Sky's broadcast subscriptions generate less than what they paid for the rights, hence recent job losses and the potential Fox takeover. They have no headroom in the deal as fans are no longer making sure the Sky subscription is the 1st thing they worry about each month. I think they will loose a lot of rights next time round. The main problem will be that a lot of the talent and production teams will be hired by the next company who owns the rights and the inherent bias will remain if there is one! My dealings in the sports media world (although somewhat limited) there seems to be a disproportionate amount of Spurs fans!

Don't think for one second that Murdoch would ever let that happen...he has history of destroying competition by any means necessary.

Have you seen how many adverts Sky carry in and around broadcasting? Even on their website when you try to watch post match interviews you have to sit through two adverts first.

Advertising is where the money is; not subscriptions.

Bumped into him Sunday and said I'm glad it's you and not Alan Smith.

Absolutely - all subscription numbers do is provide a tangible number for advertisers to base expense on.

Sky will never lose the rights to PL football. And given the absolute car crash that is BT Sport coverage, I hope they don't. The only complaint I have with Sky is the utter devotion to all things United/Arsenal/Liverpool, the bias is probably the only negative aspect for me.

To be honest we don't really get the credit for having 5-7 English players,6th lowest wage bill and don't get any oil or tax payers money.

It's not as simple as that. What we're talking about are a bunch of pre-existing narratives that are wheeled out whenever remotely appropriate.

These narratives reflect a kind of self-perpetuating power structure, which puts the richest clubs at the top and their viewpoint first. Obviously our role is as a threat, so our narratives are frequently negative.

It's not outright propaganda, it's just the warping of perspective by those who are craven and genuflect towards wealth and power.

It sounds silly but it's so clear and obvious. As soon as Man City became wealthy their whole interpretation changed. Top players get called out for cheating far less. John Terry will be lauded no matter what he does. It's the very essence of britain, it's not surprising to see this happen here.

In what way is our role a threat to elite? As always this is a question of capacity and finishing 2nd doesn't alter our standing in anyway and it doesn't diminish those clubs that are above us. Sky do not perpetuate this in any way, the elites capacity determines their postion and their sustained success not a television network that simply capitalises on it. I'm really interested to hear what perspective is being wrapped by them?

Does it even matter?

Frankly i am neutral... i felt they were nice to allow us to telecaste the closing ceremony. And i am sure it overran quite a bit due to the pitch invasion. And i am also happy that even thou they knew they needed time to close the crowd. They didn't start talking about the other matches played earlier. They could have to easily have started the highlight show and discuss other teams so they can reduce the overrun. But they didn't...

They had to talk about something... since the delay wasn't plan for.

I do agree they tend to favour man u and liverpool... but guess what... most of the world favours them too.

For me... i am thankful they telecast the event. Can't hate them for that.
