Why do spurs fans hate jenas so much?

We have two strikers, two wide midfielders and two full backs that support the attack.

Jenas has been given the roll of running and breaking up play with Palacios and helping to steady the ship and break down potential counter attacks.

Why do you want 7 players all attacking? what's the point? should I call you Ossie Ardiles?

You can if you want - I've certainly been called worse!

& if Keane continues to play as deep as he did yesterday, I'd say JJ has a bit of licence to push forward a bit. Old Trafford apart we're not conceeding or scoring many

Why did so many Newcastle fans hate Jenas? I think he's alright, used to think he was utter tripe. JJ and Robbo were my two pet hates in regards to Spurs. I really wanted them replaced. Robbo's gone, thank god, but Jenas has remained, and I have to begrudgingly admit he's grown on me.

Jenas and Palacios are working very very well together this year, i have no complaints about him playing there at the moment. In the past he has lost form and disappeared for several games, then i was asking for his replacement.
I think there a certain number of ppl who have never liked him and never will no matter how he plays. Players should be judged on current performances and right now Corluka and Keane are way more out of form than Jenas(who has been playing quite well).

Of course, the arrival of Palacios has meant he's not had to carry his midfield partner for the first time since 2005-2006.

I agree with TOY to the extent that there's a degree of frustration in that he appears to have all the equipment to be an absolute top-drawer CM rather than a merely good one, yet hasn't made that step; it's hard to think there isn't some kind of confidence/self-belief issue. Yet you can't argue with his work-rate, the ground he covers, the demonstrable fact that we do better if he's in the team, or that three successive and very different Spurs managers clearly see him as a first choice—or that he's been rated by three equally different England managers and is, apparently, rated by Mourinho. But hey, what do these guys know, eh?

What is difficult to understand is the coolness (to put it mildly) demonstrated to him by Spurs fans from the off.

Also 1 point to add that if you go to the games and not watch on TV you really appreciate how much work Jenas does off and on the ball, i know someone will say Zokora is similar but he isn't half the player JJ is, as for Tommy he hasn't got the legs for the prem, you actually need to morph both Zokora or Thudd into 1 and you have a decent player, sorry i diversify anyway TV doesn't do Jenas justice and if you still think he is crap you obviously have never played football and can't appreciate the finer things in life.

I wish he would perform week in week out though as his biggest problem is his lack of consistency.

I think the vast majority appreciate the contribution Jenas has made since he has joined and how difficult it would be to replace him with someone better without being able to offer CL games and money.

The small but vocal minority who believe Jenas is a waste of space or cheat etc.... (I refer you to JimmyG2's
The non-thinking man's guide to football analysis
) simply don't take the time to really consider what Jenas does for the team and whether we could replace him with someone better. They want a quick fix and aren't happy unless we completely dominate other teams.

As far as I can see, the only valid criticism is not of his ability ( I think he is a technically very accomplished and clever footballer) but of his mental toughness. Having said that, even without a Roy Keane type mentality, he has carried our midfield since Carrick left.

There will always be the type of football fan who feels obliged to level vile and irrational personal abuse at one of their club's players. At Spurs it seems to be directed at Jenas, Bent and Bentley (remember poor old Chris Armstrong). The following rather pathetic attempt to rationalise this type of abuse just illustrates the narrow-mindedness of these fans:

Posted this in a different thread on the front page the other day but seems more pertinent here........

Let me in a moment of calm - as for some unexplainable reason I feel pretty chilled this morning explain my thoughts on the engima that is Jermaine Jenas.

I guess at the end of the day, it is our fault for allowing this minority to punch above their weight. A few songs for Jenas or Bent would go some way to show that most Spurs fans do appreciate hard work and results.

Just out of interest, how many times since Jenas joined has he been voted MOTM here after each game? Is there a way of finding this out?

By the way, the Inter quotes are from an article in January where he goes on to say that he's very happy at tottenham. The press seem to be just repeating all the Downing/Jones/Jenas rumours from Christmas.

Simple question really, why do spurs fans hate jenas so much? He makes a difference when he plays, he always works hard, why can't people see what he does? He does twice as much work as Lampard but lampard gets all the credit media etc. Everytime I am at spurs I always hear people moaning about him saying how shit he is etc. He scored a cracker yesterday and people still saying how shit he is etc.

hes a homosexual

Sorry m8 thats below the belt even if it was meant to be a joke. He's a Spurs player and should be treated with respect.

Have you got proof? has he shaged you? or you him?

Pulling him up on his bad performances is one thing but calling him a homo is wrong in my book

Whoever said the internet killed a sense of humour....

Jenas, has a great work rate, but it certainly wasn't evident on Saturday. Palacios carried him. I think he had about 4 touches before scoring. It was a great goal....but we had been battered for 43 mins and were very lucky to be 1 up.

Its for games like Saturday, when we were playing a practically relegated team and he was not putting himself about like he can, that makes people hate him. He is capable of so much more, and thats why its frustrating.

I guarantee that if Jenas leaves us this board will be full of threads next season saying how much we are missing him and why did we ever break up the Jenas- WP combination.

I think hate is too strong a word. When I see Jenas I see a player who should be at the peak of his career, but for me he has just remained stagnant for a few years now. Can he be improved on? Yes
The move to Italy would be good for him as he would progress and improve as a player. None of the top 4 would take him, likewise Bent, Bentley etc...So players like this need to take the chance abroad, which will not only improve them but hopefully England as well.

Jenas is a great athlete, but an average footballer.

Watching the game we were screaming at him to come out and be available for the pass when Lennon and Corluka were in possession on the right. At the 10th time of asking, Corluka decides to run into the space Jenas should be occupying, finds the pass and JJ takes it very well and scores.

Apart from that he did nothing of note. Apart from maybe losing the ball and forcing Wilson to get booked and save his sorry arse.

As i've already said he's a great athlete with no football brain, and that at this club means you're not good enough i'm afraid!

Absolute bullshit. He was just as effective as Wilson was but without the fouls.

I counted twice Jenas got robbed of the ball, 1 less than Palacios.

Just out of interest how many times did Modric lose the ball on Saturday or misplace a pass?

I think hate is too strong a word. When I see Jenas I see a player who should be at the peak of his career, but for me he has just remained stagnant for a few years now.

The real question is not what Jenas could be, but what he is to Spurs. Does he tackle, pass, create goals, score goals, get into good positions and make himself available for the pass, cover defensively for players out of position and so forth?

For me he does more than enough on most counts.

Can he be improved on? Yes

This is the other question. You say yes, but who realistically could replace him, and please don't say Huddlestone or Zokora (both players I rate, but I don't think are better partners for Palacios).
