I was actually quite upset when I saw this morning that he had gone to Fulham, I've always hoped in my heart that he would come back and lead us to success - I would have rather had him at the helm than Harry (not complaining now through, Redknapp is doing a sterling job, although Jol seemed more passionate about the club)

Marginally better....???

Last eight of the Champions league!!

wins away at ...liverpool,the scum, Ac milan, city,

wins at home against ..the european champs, chelsea, the scum, city

CL in his first full season, and making us the talk of the CL.
and all this when we were bottom when he took over the year before..

FFS...Harry has not been marginally better...he has been alot better, show me Jol's major achievments or big wins.

With those players he should have done more. Jol was minutes away from a win at Anfield, when Liverpool were a top team, was robbed of a victory at OT. All with a team without our signings that Harry has benefited from. If Harry had taken over rather than Jol I'm not sure we'd have qualified for europe let alone finished 5th. Don't mistake the teams achievement with Redknapp.

Why does this have to become a Jol v Harry thread. Fuck me this place is getting so repetitive at the moment.

Jol was an excellent manager who alot of us still hold in our hearts.

Harry is our current manager who will never be good enough for some of us no matter who well he does for us.

But these two points have been debated no end on here, this thread is about something else other than those points!!!

Jol set some good foundations and overall did a good job at Spurs leading us to two fifth place finishes but Harry has done a fair bit better in my eyes.

Not just getting into the CL and doing brillantly, but by building belief to perform and get results against the better sides.

Jol has a poorer squad IMO and did very well!

Redknapp took over a better team that was lacking confidence and turned it round and got us above where we probably should have

So both are/have been top managers for us and we should be lucky both have been at the helm of the club

Not getting involved in another dull Harry v Jol debate so onto what the OP was talking about.

We have a host of players that Jol could be interested in. From his time there's Jenas, Keane and Defoe though not sure JD would be interested.

This could benefit us as Jol almost always played Jenas and who knows Jenas might be interested in working with Jol again.

He'll want players who were here when he was so I reckon he'll be interested in Jenas and the Hudd for midfielders and Defoe for up front. Oh and robbie keane but what he does/where he plays I'm not sure anymore

If he does go for our deadwood, he will cement what i already thought of him , great bloke ...average football manager.
"average football manager" ...Eek...... despite having the best Spurs record since Sir Bill.... aside from Harry of course....... doesn't say much for the other Spurs managers over the past 40 years. ...

Jol deserves more respect than that.

His team next year will be:

1, Robinson
2, Stalteri
3, Lee
4, Davenport
5, Gardner
6, Jenas
7, Tanio
8, Carrick
9, Keane
10, Mido
11, Routledge

Should be good enough for top 18.

I would very surprised if he doesn't. Jenas and Keane have to be the obvious candidates that would be realistic.

He knows them, they're at Fulhams level now and they would get the chance of first team football whilst still remaining in London.

Duff being there for Keane too is probably a nice bonus.

Only obstacle will be wages, not so much Jenas...but Keane. I honestly think though Robbie is aware that he'll have to take a cut if he wants to play regularly at the top level again....this move would make total sense for him, a manager who knows him and will give him plenty of time to prove his worth....could be a good partnership for Fulham...Keane and Zomora.

10 million for the pair of them would be amazing business IMO.

I think you might squeeze a few more quid out of them,... 12 mil and a keg of Fuller's
Looks like good business...

Ok just above average.....is that better  what Harry has done and the amount of shit he gets is a joke.Jol is a bloke who we all loved and still do, but i don't regard him as a manager who would have brought us real success, thats my opinion by the way, When things got sticky on and off the pitch, big martin looked out of his depth i'm afraid.

Why can't they both have done a great job? In my opinion Jol done a great job. So much shit is talked about how he couldn't take us to the next level, he didn't do much wrong. No one could have worked under the conditions he was put under by our board in his last few months. Have a look over at Chelsea and what happens when a manager is undermimed. Hard to know what he would have done with our current squad but he done a fantastic job with the squad he had just like Redknapp has done with this one.

i agree but now we need to push on and establish ourselves as serious top club. we have players young enough and good enough but like he said today we need 3 top players to really kick us on. critical window for me that could say alot of us in years to come.. if we can get 3 top players in and ger rid of 4 or 5 too we will challenege for title next season. i really believe that

Jol...

I have this bad vision of Keane going there, refinding his form and then putting 3 past us at the Lane while Defoe runs around like a headless chicken at the other end of the pitch.

I wish BMJ the best, but I hope Fulham go down the toilet.

Surely not!?!?!?!!!!

Martin Jol was head coach of Ajax, the richest and best run club in Holland...and yet he couldn't win the Eredivisie title....beaten by Steve McLaren's FC Twente...
While at Spurs I found Jol tactically inept; he rarely managed to change tactics when things were not going well; rarely made substitutions until the 86th minute and kept playing players out of position (mainly using CMF as WMF). However, in true Spurs tradition, he often had Spurs play well against the good teams (but rarely win) and struggle against "lesser" teams. But he may have learned a thing or two by now and would love for him to do well at Fulham (but not over take Spurs!) and if he really has become a top manager I there couldn't be a nicer bloke to have as manager for Spurs :)

We should be very worried now. Fulham I can see challenging for 5th/6th spot in the next season or so. Buying Keane would be an astute move, one of the best strikers in the premiership and he'd get him at a knock-down price. For people with short memories Keane and Jol may be average but were okay at the time. For the rest of us they are highly talented guys who we've cast aside in favour of a bit of flash.

If I were him I'd be looking at Bassong, Kranjcar and maybe Gomes if we're silly enough to let them go.

Actually the amount of shit he gets is because of what he has done. Jol took a decent team and took them from never having played in europe to the verge of the CL. Three seasons running. Harry has taken much better players and done marginally better. If Jol had Bale, Modric, Gomes, Sandro and VDV we would have been top 4 all those years. As it is, we wouldn't have got those players if it weren't for Jol
Quarters of CL also..really??
