Wish I hadn't said anything now if I'm honest. As I posted months back we really want a certain CF, his contract is at a place where it might or might not happen, depending on a good number of factors. We think we are on a good place regarding him, but so many variables involved regarding when(if) it could happen. If you can't get your head around how this works with short contract players probably best to stay away from itk imo, because looking at those we are currently targeting there are going to be a lot similar to this in the near future.

I didn't aim that comment at you it was just i doubt we will buy a striker again as over the years we have been let down by the hierachy at spurs. I appreciate any ITK and understand things change, but there should be back up targets in case we don't get target number 1. Thanks for sharing any info.

Has been mentioned before, but I'll throw his name up again. I'm sure Patrik Schick is on our radar. His first really prolific season at 25, looks the goods.

Thinking on it some more I have no idea what we should do about our midfield moving forward. A better player would definitely be preferred but in our current setup the attack is all generated by the wingbacks & the three forwards.

I would probably lean towards going big on an Nkunku or Goncalves to play in Lucas' spot over getting another midfielder who is a more defensive player as a slight upgrade on PEH.
This x100. The system progresses the ball. There’s no need for someone who specializes in ball progression from deep, as it all comes from the wingbacks and out-to-in runs from the inside forwards. Someone who is comfortable receiving in the final third and making precise final actions is what’s needed the most. Both the players you mentioned do this, and can operate centrally and wider, which is important. What the midfield currently needs is dynamism, grit, and ball-winning ability, which Skipp and Hojbjerg currently do very well. If we have to be sensible with money, this isn’t an urgent need, except to add depth. If there is going to be an upgrade on Hojbjerg, someone like Hojbjerg but with more athleticism is probably all that’s required. Sarr is actually the ideal profile for this.

Now if the 352 is the plan, then this changes, and a specialty Conte regista is an urgent need, as is an 8/10 with more goal threat (this could potentially be Sarr) unless Conte sees in-house solutions. Basically, do think I’d like a regista type, if only to give Conte different options. But just depends what the manager wants and what his plan is. The current midfield is actually pretty good for what Conte requires in the 343.

Gary Jacob putting out an article stating that Ajax is interested in signing Bergwijn on loan in January. He goes on to mention that Dele, Ndombele & Rodon are other options that could go but sounds more like speculation than any insight just due to them not playing very much.

But most of the article was behind a paywall.

Apparently he mentions that Brighton are interested in Rodon.

Yeah but it's not that simple is it. We really need a back up striker now, and we really want that to be Vlahovic. If he's not gettable in Jan do you wait until the Summer if you think there's a good chance he'll come or do you go for an option you aren't as keen on because you can get him now? It really isn't straight forward and a lot of weighing up needs to be done. Obviously the price now V's price in the Summer needs to be taken into account also.

It’s not my money or my decision, but imo if we can get him in Jan then we shouldn’t wait, even if the price will clearly be cheaper in the summer.

Might be too late by then and could be the difference between European qualification or not this season.

Great points. I'm hoping we can go all out for him in January rather than require a plan B or C option as Vlahovic seems to be the one clear target being reported by the media for Fabio and Conte.

However, with his current scoring record and Fiorentina being well in the top four race its beginning to seem unlikely to me that Fiorentina will sanction his sale in January, especially if they don't have a proper replacement lined up. Despite his contract situation, he could be worth more this summer if he keeps scoring and he will certainly help the club fight for a top four finish..

I don't think they're particularly obtainable. Barnes is in contract until 2024 playing for a good side with money behind them.

Gallagher plays for Chelsea.

If we went big for Barnes we could possibly get him but I don't think he's the player to go all out for.
Not a chance he gets into their team anytime soon with the quality they have. Yes they could offer him out on loan to the likes of Palace every season but if we came in strong for him, he could refuse to go anywhere else.

I just hope it isn't an either/or discussion. i could see going for a lesser CM familiar with Conte's system if it allows us to get Vlahovic. But we have quite a bit of firepower that should get back on track if we have someone with a midfield wand.

I would be absolutely amazed if we sign Vlahovic. Can't help but think his sights would be set higher. If City are still looking for a striker and the choice is a 28 year old Kane who is misfiring for £100m or a 21 year old Vlahovic who is regularly scoring for £60m, surely it's a no brainer. Vlahovic's agent should be advising him to wait until the summer when his choices will be greater. There are gonna be a lot of top clubs after Haaland and if they don't get him will see Vlahovic as the next best.

Yeah, hard to argue with that.

It's looking more and more like a poor piece of business if we could have essentially swapped Kane for Vlahovic and made 30mil.

Key word is if.. and who knows what the future holds. But for now looks like we may have missed the boat.

Chelsea still won't sell us Gallagher.

Are we expecting Kane to be off then? Possibly in the summer? United?

Surely Valhovic would expect to start week in week out and cannot see him and Kane together?

I think he was joking based on the fact that the person typod the word ‘dinner’ into their post.

Sure, that’s probably fair. However, I think my point remains valid since you can basically go to any given page around here and find the same self-defeatism.

I agree completely. Go back and read the threads on him back then and see the general consensus regarding him though. I've rated him since day one and was massively in favour of signing him when we did. I'd wager you'd be staggered by the number of posters who did nothing but criticise his stats and lack of assists and goals back then though.
Remember him putting on a show against Man U twice for Fulham and being delighted to sign him
