Wouldn't mind something like this, perhaps with the 2nd striker sitting behind as more of a false 9:

This would solve our "we've only got cack wingers" problem, with it easier to use the attacking qualities of a wing back that can defend.

Vertoghen can sit ahead of a back 2, playing more of a hybrid DM/DC role, allowing him to move forwards (which he loves), whilst also regaining possession ahead of the back two.

Swap out midfield as required, especially if Eriksen played a more AMC or F9 role.

I love this.
It's the kind of indie formation that Guardiola would love, for example. He put Lahm and Alaba as CM's, same could happen for Vertonghen I guess.

I think modern football success leans towards dynamic football, with players assuming different roles based on whether or not the team is in possession. It's a natural evolution on high pressing, IMO.

Most realistic line-up given incomings and outgoings:

Vorm (Mcgee)

Walker (Yedlin) Dier (Fazio) Moreno (Wimmer) Rose (Davies)

Bentaleb (Mason) McCarthy (Alli)

Mirallas (Lamela) Eriksen (Dembele) Chadli (Pritchard)

Kane (Soldado)

My personal preference:

Lloris (Vorm)

Walker (Yedlin) Alderweireld (Fazio) Vertonghen (Dier) Rose (Davies)

Song (Bentaleb) Clasie (Alli)

Lamela (Pritchard) Eriksen (Dembele) Konoplyanka (Chadli)

Kane (Bacca)

Yedlin howedes vertonghen rose
Kondogbia
Lamela dembele Bentalbeb eriksen
Kane
We were linked with kondogbia last transfer window and after watching him destroy arsenal in the destroyer role I would hope we could re ignite our interest. Will be watching him tonight to see how he gets on.

Dembele needs a run of games as I have been impressed with him of late and think he can kick on under poch.

I would swap Lamela with a winger with pure pace but can't see us changing yet

I think the Mirallas story definitely has legs. Good chance he'll be here next year I reckon.

Some of you lot have too much time on your hands...... Just want a team/squad who play good football, don't go on holiday from Feb onwards and actually want to win a trophy!!!

I would love Schneiderlin but its not going to happen.

I honestly think we should go all out for Song. Quality player and vastly experienced. No messing about, get the real deal in. He's entering his peak years and wouldn't cost the earth.

Song, Milner, and Mirallas would improve us considerably IMO. They'be my top targets, realistically speaking of course.

Lloris

Walker
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Rose

Song
Bentaleb

Milner
Eriksen
Mirallas

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Dier, Davies, Mason, Chadli, Lamela, new second striker

We all know the usual suspects we should be looking to sell but Townsend tops the next list in which I'd be looking to entertain offers for. Unbelievably he'll still hold a very high value, I'd cash in now while we still have a chance of getting a decent fee for him.

We need some more experience and leadership. Song and Milner would infinitely improve us and would complement the up and coming players in the side. We need to strike the right balance. Those signings wouldn't involve a huge outlay and hopefully with some sales, as tricky as that may be in some cases, it would balance out quite nicely. They're realistic signings that would really improve us.

What I really like about Song, is that's its not just that he's very good defensive midfield presence, but he can really pick good vertical passes from that area of the pitch. I even remember his days at Arsenal, how many times did he assist RVP? He moves the ball from midfield very well. Total opposite to someone like Mikel. The way we play under Pochettino that's pretty significant.

I suspect we'll go for a young fowarad who will be happy to be eased in and rotated when necessary.

I work with an everyone fan and he said a few weeks back he wouldn't be surprised if he came to us for money plus Lennon.

We need a lot of changes then mate! :)

Edit: To be fair though, you are right. I had a serious back operation a few months ago and I am bored to tears of doing nothing for so long! I have vast amounts of time on my hands!

Ok I'm bored, so I'll give some thoughts...

We all know it will be 4-2-3-1, but I'd be looking to switch between a 4-3-3 and a variant of 3-4-3 depending on the opposition.

I think there are a number of positions with question marks about who fills the role, we don't necessarily need new signings though.

RB - I'd like to see Fredericks get a go. Well stocked in this position.

CB - Dier I rate highly. Vertonghen ideally will stay. Think we could do with a signing though to come in and contend for a place, knocking Fazio to 4th choice. I've liked Schar every time I have seen him play but as I've said elsewhere before, why has no-one snapped him up yet? When switching to a back three I'd also view Davies as a left centre back, so he's an option too.

DM - Could definitely do with a midfield anchor. Someone who's pretty good positionally, has a bit of presence and can pass the ball efficiently. Of those we have been linked with, the little I have seen of Camacho at Malaga I think he would be closest to fitting the bill. I'd have Veljkovic as his understudy. Capoue and Stambouli I'm open to selling.

CM - Bentaleb is a given. Happy for Mason and Alli to fight it out for the box to box role. I'd keep Dembele also for his versatility. Then Winks/Onomah breaking through as well. You also have Carroll hanging about (suspect he will go, I'd maybe give him pre-season) and Eriksen and Pritchard can play centrally too in a cm3 in certain games. I think Paulinho is surplus to requirements, and it's probably best for him as well if he moves on.

Wide forwards - Think we definitely need to buy one here. Pritchard and Eriksen I see playing on the left in a 4-3-3. It's the right where we are struggling. I'm not really able to offer any suggestions for the role, so I'll see what Poch/Mitchell/Broomfield come up with here. I'd keep one of Townsend/Chadli/Lamela.

Centre forward - Anyone who can compete with Kane. The other two can go.

So for purchases I think we need to be looking at centre back, midfield anchor, (right) wide forward and a centre forward. I think four signings is reasonable, and enough.

End up with something like:

Lloris
Someone Schar Vertonghen Rose
Camacho
CM Bentaleb
RWF Kane Eriksen

Subs: Vorm, Dier, Davies, Veljkovic, CM, Pritchard, CF.
or:

Lloris
Dier Vertonghen Davies
RWB Camacho Rose
Bentaleb
RWF Kane Eriksen

Subs: Vorm, RB, CB, Veljkovic, Alli/Mason, Pritchard, CF.

Ok thats occupied 20 minutes of my time...
