Gollini - impressive. For a change, a goal keeper who actually willing to catch the ball as much as possible than flapping around. Also his fast distributions was good. He is certainly going to push Lloris all the way.

Dele - horrible in first half, meh in 2nd half. Totally devoid of confidence

Bergwijn - Average, but hopefully that goal helps him gain his confidence

Hojbjerg - needs fitness

Skipp - overwhelmed in first half but not due to him. Didnt have any outball. But once Winks came looked good and finished 90min well

Dier , Reguilon- ok. thats it

Tanganga - Not good enough at times. Take that Gala loan and gain experience

Lucas - Giving away that goal shut him up but played well in end

Son - meh. He will be fine when City game comes up

Doherty - avg

Why do we need a right wing forward?

Lucas / Bergwijn clearly not good enough to be first choice.

Gil is a kid coming to a new country who has played nearly all his football on the left. And is specifically a rare old school winger who plays on his natural side. If we play him on the right we're playing him out of position.

Am I forgetting someone else?

Hah
He didn’t cost £24m
Never mind £30m Sissoko who’s first touch is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. His ability to hide in midfield means we play 10 men everytime he’s on. Any really he gives the oppo an extra man as he basically gives the ball back everytime he gets it.
Doherty poor.
Winks coward.

Every club will have their peak clowns but this Spurs team right now has some very average ‘can’t even give them away’ players.
We are not close to Chelsea right now

Either the scouting team are corrupt or they are lazy.

So presuming Romero has signed, we need:

Right back
Another Centre back
Central midfield player
Right side forward
Centre forward

As absolute mandatory.
I think if we're interpreting "absolute mandatory" to mean "the prisoner will receive enough calories and vitamins to maintain physical function", then Right Back + Centre Forward are on another plain of necessity to the other positions.

Doherty + Aurier, or Doherty backed by a youth player would be a calamitous RB department. We've seen what happens without a backup to Kane. But if Dele and Winks are our 5th and 6th choice CMs, that's not so extremely terrible. Moura and Bergwijn competing as RWs will at least get us the best version of one of them most weeks - 10 league goals between them maybe.

I've watched Chelsea's first goal back a few times now because I felt sure that Dier wasn't primarily at fault. Firstly, obviously Lucas losing the ball to Kante was the catalyst, but as Ziyech ran at the defence Werner went outside Dier's left shoulder. If Dier had engaged Ziyech then it would be a simple slide in for Werner who would now be free. Looking across to Tanganga and PEH(?) you can see there is no threat on Chelsea's left at all. Tanganga absolutely had to shift across to close down Ziyech.

I like Tanganga, so hope that looking back at this will help him understand that he needed to take control of that himself.

I was wondering why all 3 of our central midfield players were ahead of the ball when Lucas lost it. :pompous:

They analysed the goal really well at half time. Basically Dier and Tanganga needed to work as a pair and engage Ziyech, Werners run was taking him into an offside position. Sounded good to me

Sadly, I don't even think it's a confidence thing now.

I just don't think he has the tactical awareness or ability to play in certain roles or systems. He's very much a bit of a 'free role' kind of player and because of the energy and ability, as well as the tough core, we had from 15-18 he was able to float and focus purely on his talent, which is to make the difference in the final third and use his skill/movement.

Unfortunately, a lot of systems require players like him to drop in and construct or face up and drive forward with the ball and he just doesn't have that speed or tactical nous to do it well.

I think we will struggle in midfield if we rely on him as the furthest forward. He either needs to be in the front line or on the bench.

Yea bench, no amount of workout videos is going to improve Dele's passing game or ability to control a midfield, if Nuno wants to play 4-3-3, then hopefully he's finding out a lot about Dele if he didn't know it before.

Got to know your enemy. If you can rely on Werner for anything it’s to be offside.

So alongside Romero we do need another CB. A new RB is a must. Certainly need a creative midfielder in the Eriksen mould. Depending on what happens to Harry K, will need 1 or possibly 2 more strikers.
Well we won't be getting all that in the next few weeks

If we’re going to play 433 we need a player in central midfield who can control the game.

One thing that seems to be missing from these analyses is that Chelsea are a very, very good side, with a tactically top manager and likely to push Man City for the Prem this year. We're not.
