as someone living overseas and not seeing some of the games - i hope to get a line on things through you guys but it is impossible - your "reports" all over the place and some clearly simply emotive - fortunately to get a good feel for the overall situation, Paul Smith on Spurs Odyssey does the best reports of all reporters

Gomes 7 Did a few really great saves in the first half to stop us from going 2 or 3 down. No one on this planet could have saved that shot. It was going over swerved twice before going into the very top right corner. AMAZING.

Gunter 6.5

Corluka 6.5

Woodgate 6

Bale 7

Zokora 7

Jenas 6.5

Modric 4

Lennon 7

Pavlyuchenko 4

Campbell 4

subs

Bent 4

Bentley 7

Dos Santos 6

Spurs had enough possession so win 3 games.

Modric, is not even playing as good as Rebrov.
Bent is a Jonah (scores but his teams always seem to struggle regardless),
Pav was awful and counter productive and has the touch of a defender.
Campbell was playing angry and is imature.

Replace the above players with Keane, Berbs, Malbs and Defoe and we would have won 10 - 1.

Sack DC. Someone has to pay for it. Levy ALWAYS sacks someone if we do this bad. So DC needs sacking.

I knew I'd log on here and find people making illogical ratings based on result not necessarily on how people played or the team for that matter.

There is no way on earth we deserved anything other than to win this game by a fairly good margin. We have had 65% possession and 26 shots. Should have had 2/3 penalties and hit post and bar.

I thought the mifield were superb today (I don't include Campbell in that). I thought Modric saw plenty of the ball and was constantly involved and looking to get involved. Absoloutely baffled by anyone rating him poorly today. Jenas and Zokora worked their nuts off.

I just feel at the moment we are suffering from two major illnesses. We are suffering from losing Defoe, Keane and Berbatov in 8 months and having as replacements the terribly limited Bent & Campbell and Pavlyuchenko who has been playing constantly since January.

The second thing we are suffering from is that unquantifiable thing that happens in football often. Fate. lady luck. I think we have had 60+ % possession about 4 or 5 times already. Unprecedented that we have picked up nish from most of these games. Even the rule of lucky breaks suggests that having this much of the ball should see you flooking at least a couple of those.

I didn't agree with campbell playing on the left of the five, I know he was also getting himself up front to support the striker but I only agree to us playing the midfield five if we do it properly and Campbell was frankly shit. He offered nothing creative whatsoever and I am astounded that ManU didn't snap Hull's 7m offer up.

I wanted to see GDS on the left from the get go. Our strikers aren't working (for the various reasons - 2 are shit and one is knackered) so lets play to the strengths of the current squad. And how the fuck Campbell stayed on when Lennon went off is a miracle. I suppose he thought leaving a stiker on might get us a goal but he was fucking awful today.

I've just watched Phil Brown's post match interview on sky and he was very honest and very accurate. He didn't big it up and give it the large "we was magnificent, the boys thoroughly deserved to win" bulshit. He said we were all over them and that they rode their luck and we passed the ball well and played alot of good football.
I agreed. We could have easily walked home from half a dozen matches this season saying how we are dominating teams and how great we are playing. Problem is we can't evn get clear cut penalties given us at the moment, let alone fluke a winner.
I've seen this happen many times to teams and it's horrible.

Ratings:

Gomes 6 - Nothing much to do.

Gunter 6 - Did ok

Corluka 6 - Can't jump. Luckily he's very tall and very good on the ball.

Woody 6 - Did OK.

Bale 7 - Played well.

Lennon 7.5 - Really worked his little tits off.

Jenas 7.75 - put in a real shift. Worked his nuts off. Wish he could pass the ball further than 10 yards sometimes though.

Zokora 7.75 - constant effort. like Jenas a real 90 minute graft. Wish he could fucking shoot.

Modric 8 - Always looking for the ball today. Always busy. Too many times looked up to see his options limited. Played the best ball of the game through to bent who wasted it.

Campbell 1 - Just shit. Everything he did was shit.

Bent 2 - We are fucked.

Bentley 6 - put some decent balls in but his set pieces are still disapointing.

GDS 6 - Should have been on from the start. Looked lively when he did come on.

Ramos 6 - There was motivation. Everybody worked their nuts off. the team and tactics were right apart from the fudge of Campbell playing. First sub should have been GDS for Campbell. If not then the second sub. But as far as the Bentley sub goes, at first I thought WTF, but it did actually work.

So we are where we should be....and what or who will save us? I despair for an answer....and quickly! I have yet to see the highlights of the game but I will sit, calmly, and look....between my fingers if I deem it prudent! Is Ramos to blame? Is Levi the responsible party....or do we have a dud bunch of 'no-hoper's' at the Lane this season? I feel that I know the answer to that myself but I am just trying to get some release from the obvious conclusions! Perhaps we should not take any trans Atlantic voyages this year.....and 'steer clear' of any Smiths as Captain lol. Who will be promoted from Div 3? I may begin looking at away day ticket availability NOW! COY(pathetic)S!

And your ratings would be?

I feel that I have fair, measured ratings. Although I may have been a bit generous with a few of them.

I'm too depressed over our situation to give ratings. But I just don't think it's a fair rating for Corluka. He had a good game and just because we were horrible going forward and lost to a wondergoal from a free-kick he should still be given a reasonable rating.

Much as it pains me to say it I've got to agree with BC. Anyone who didn't rate Modric today obviously wasn't at WHL, he gave us a glimpse of the future and what he can offer. The disappointments today were:

Campbell - offered nothing all game
Pav - v.poor
Bent - doesn't hold the ball up
Woody - nobody has mentioned this but he looked inured to me, and most certainly was after the header late in the game where he came down awkwardly
GDS - got to disagree with BC in that i didn't think he offered much when he came on

Unlike many other games this season where we've had a lot of possession but no chances, today we actually began to get crosses in and create chances. A win isn't far away, to be fair it is probably more likely to come away from home given the pressure the players must be feeling at WHL.

where the hell were these penalties everyone keeps talking about, i can only remember modric missing the ball and falling over which was not a pen and jenas tripping over his own feet and copping one in the face on the way down but again not a pen.
Yes we hit the post and the bar but imo that was it 25 shots i only saw 2 good ones and they are the ones above.
Best players today were lennon and bale, jenas, modric and pav stood out as shit, pav has not played much in fairness to him but he looks so so slow is he rasiak in disguise.
We have the talent its just not working and unfortunatly our 3 forwards are awful, comolli get your coat.

Spot on! Fucking idiots here don't watch the game and then just randomly give players ratings. For me, I would say only Frazer Campbell was poor today.

Some of you lot definitely watch a different game to me

Modric was our MOTM today without question

His best game for us so far by a country mile and were we not so poor infront of goal we'd have won the game comfortably

Whilst scoring goals and winning games can sometimes paper over the cracks so also can not being able to score make us seem alot worse than we actually are.

Our lack of fire power now is sad to see from the days of Berbs/Keane/Defoe/Bent....well done whoever is responsible

Don't always agree with you BC but I'll rep you for this don't quite agree with the striker scores but they do need to up their game.
I posted during the week Lennon and GDS on the flanks.
I thought the team worked so hard today they had Hull pinned back for pretty well the whole second half, Modric started like he wanted to get into it and got better as the game went on his best game for us so far, in fact I thought it was our best game, we did play well and every man in the team gave everything today it was a shame Pavlyuchenko got crocked early on and eventually had to go off.
We need to convert that effort into goals but if we keep improvng at this rate we will turn the corner soon.
Pleased to see the woodgate - Corluka partnership work quite well because like it or not it is the only way we can keep any consistency with Ledley crocked all the time.
Incidently the starting team today had only four players who have been at the club for more than a year and one of them was 19 year old Bale who was out for all last season.

We were beaten by a wonder strike that no keeper in the world could have saved.
We definitely lack quality up front but I really couldn't fault the effort that our players put in and I think we will get better!

Just out of interest, was there a football first on sky tonight and did it show any of the penalty incidents ? MOTD showed none. Just wanted to know what the score was with the shouts we had, I'm thinking of the Modric and Campbell ones.

We might have dominated possesion but did we look that dangerous? does anyone think it was a bit like Portsmouth where they look like scoring every time they break and we look a bit toothless up top?

Are you kidding? He is supposed to be a creative genius.

He let ONE good ball through the whole game.

He was NON EXISTENT first half. Hold on...No. He did a really nice flick to Bale on the left in the middle of the park. Nice and fancy. Yes it was on the half way line but it sure looked pretty.

Apart from that he left massive gaps, and ducked out of responsibility. He never once took on a defender. Passed to no one on the flanks (and was jeered by the crowd). And pretty much had disappointment on his face every time to camera was on him because he didn't quite get off the pass/shot/tackle/header or anything else.

In the second half (like in the last game) he played better. But still. If he does one good pass a game, are our shite strikers going to score from one chance??? We need 10 chances before we score!

And anyone saying that we didnt watch the game are having a laugh. Even the commentators were saying Modric was playing poorly.

We passed EVERYTHING through him (bar Bales early runs in the first). If we had given our reserve goal keeper the same amount of concerntrated passes and possesion as out playmaker he would probably have scored or got 3 assists.

Don't mistake a lot of ball time for a good game. Ramos obvously gave the order to give it to Modric to create before the game. And he created ONE opening all game. AT HOME.

Against HULL

BCs rating for Modric was OBVIOUSLY oversrating his point. I don't give that rating to players that score or create multiple assists. Lol.

I think that BC is letting the statistics effect his judgment. It doesn't matter if you have 65% of possession, passing it along your back 4 and midfield 4 if you only have 1 clear cut chance the whole match.

Absolutely agree. It's easy to look at the result, league position and points tally and rate soley according to that. In fact we did look a lot better today. Our midfield worked very hard, and we could see where goals might come from.
