Neither does the modern day full back. These days the best clubs rely on their full backs to provide width, crosses and to play with attacking intent. As long as you have decent centre backs and a hardworking central midfield then the full backs don’t have to worry about their defensive frailties as much they would have 5 to 10 years ago.
That's certainly not true in all cases. Wan Bissaka, for instance, is far better as a defender than he is going forward. Many clubs, perhaps not the majority though, don't fall in line with your assessment.

Our very own Ben Davies, I'd suggest, is a typical Jose fullback. A right back in his mold would be more likely to sign, in my opinion.

By all accounts, that’s Zeki Celik

I'm curious of where this obsession over his height comes from? I was just looking over Transfermarket's top 10 most valuable RB in Europe.
Alexander-Arnold, Wan-Bissaka, Pavard (tallest at 73"), Semedo, Carvajal (shortest at 68"), Walker, Roberto, Cancelo, Pereora, and Bell-end. The average height of those 10 players is 70.5"
Max Aarons is listed as 70"
Am I missing something?

To my regret it may have been me.

Aarons and Jamal Lewis were both listed as 70", but picture evidence showed Lewis was at least 3/4" taller than MA.

With the exception of Wan-Bissaka our completion all have offensive full backs.

We’re not playing two defensive full backs.

Only about 36 pages of people discussing this very subject to death.

Just because some clubs rely on attacking full backs for width and crosses, don't mean all the clubs or managers in the world have to follow this model.

A lot of people don’t seem to have watched how we set up after lockdown. I think anyone thinking we’re going to go back to Rose & Walker full backs are going to be disappointed.
We’re going to be set up with a solid defensive shape and counter.

Actually be very surprised if Aarons was who we wanted, I think Celik fits the mould much better. He’s not Ben Davies though, that’s a conception based on limited viewings by some people.
It will be win ball then quick counter attack football, if we come up against a team sat back then I’d say crossing ability is far more important than pace anyway which Celik has.

We're trying to sell Aurier and buy 2 RBs

I imagine the club want Aarons for a number of reasons. But Jose probably wants a more defensive RB like Celik.

Therefore the club and Jose are compromising. That's the way I see it from the ITK and journo reports.

Agreed. I think Aarons is a more future of the club purchase who will be a backup and get a few cup/Europa League ames and the likes of Celik or Castagne will be the Mourinho choice.

We set up in a far more traditional way than we did back in the winter. The fullbacks both pushed up higher to maintain width, while a DM, usually Winks, dropped between the centre halves & Son & Moura then came narrow to support Kane more, especially against Leicester & Newcastle.

I think this will continue with Davies on the left and dare I say, Celik or Castagne on the right in the 20/21 season. Tanganga will be second choice RB I bet...

Who: The Goat
When: 17th August
Where: SC

The Goat hears we're interested in Matt Doherty. Aurier leaving would clear the decks for that one.

Also that we're not in for Aarons
Looks like we can stop debating Aarons’ true height and whether he’s tall enough to play for Mourinho.

Quite relieved to be honest as im not sure that Aarons was really all that. He might be great in a few years but we need quality in right now that can improve the team and im not convinced he would.
