Right now Dawson is a better choice than Eunice or Vlad and for that matter Verts on one of his can't be arsed days

I'm glad to hear he may be staying, Siggy not so much, but we can't expect loyalty from players if we try and push players out the door, particularly players that have been great club servants over the years

The thing about Daws is even if we brought in a top CB he'll still fight for his place, won't complain and give 100 pc every time he gets a chance, right now over the squad we lack any depth of character, drive, desire and leadership, getting rid of Daws would reduce that and be just dumb imo
He really isn't though...

I posted that JJ said Rojo wouldn't join and I think it was deleted by a Mod for some reason...

Well, for all the loyalists out there, if we are being honest, Dawson and Sigurdsson (or any other player) are acting in their own self-interests when they refuse to accept a transfer. They are not acting in the club's best interest by wanting to stay around and fight for a spot on the bench...

They have earned the right, via their contracts, to have a say in where, and whether, they go, but don't turn this into they are being loyal to the club, so the club should maintain status quo...they are acting as selfishly as the player who demands to leave.

We must have a very small transfer kitty if our incomings are dependent on the sale of Dawson and Sigurdsson.

I would guess that it has less to do with the kitty and more to do with a coherent 1 in 1 out policy to ensure we don't bloat the squad. The last thing we need on our books is more than 25 players - we'll then have to do some last minute loans which a) causes a load of hassle and b) still means we have a very large squad.

We seem to have been doing the 1 in 1 out thing for a couple of seasons now (since Redknapp left).

Someone like Dawson will clearly want to finish his career with us and cling on for dear life as he's settled and doesn't want to uproot his family for the first time in 10 years.

Perhaps we'll just have to make it glaringly obvious and leave him an unused sub for all the pre-season games in the States. He'd then get the message, although that wouldn't be the best way for Poch to announce his arrival :ROFLMAO:

True, and then you look at last summer too, he was almost out the door and in the end became a fairly key player for us all season, he may be thinking that the same will happen this time round.

Nobody should be sent to Hull against their will. Least of all Michael Dawson.

Just hold your nerve Daws...'Arry will be on the blower soon enough I'm sure.

Over the years I have read time and time again through many threads/posts that there is no loyalty in football. You only have to look at recent events, Berbatov, Modric, Bale. I know, their argument will be I want to better myself, I am worthy of a better club, etc. etc. Well the club is pursuing the same argument, we want to better the club, so we want better players. Whats wrong with that? It is a business, there is no sentiment. An example... You own a car hire company, your cars are six years old, do you sell the old ones and buy new ones to improve or keep the old ones because they have served you well? I admire most of the men who have worn the white shirt, they have been paid handsomely, in a lot of cases, to display their skills, but like any piece of equipment there comes a time when it needs to be replaced.

Please feel free to slag off or agree or sit on the fence.

Key as in everyone else was injured.

He had 3 maybe 4 good games ... I'll never forget him coming on against Liverpool and playing a sublime through ball to Suarez to score with his 1st touch.

I really dont think that Rojo is the kinda player we should be looking at. Apparently he was sent off 3 times last season for Sporting and has a tendancy to be rash and overly aggressive.

He looks decent enough on the ball but I think we can do better.

I disagree, but both of us are guessing

Yeh i don't think he should stay and frankly given his reasonably low value we could just loan him out this season with a sell on clause. BUT i think Dawson will think he might end up being a key player this season if he isn't categorically told he has no place in the team.

Because you need to bring the quote over for the sake of accuracy. If it's something worthy of the Read Only, we can hardly put "THFCSPURS19 said that JJ said………."

Just read Rebrab's ITK on Jan and I'm not sure everyone gets the significance of it.
Along with Lloris, Vertonghen was the most likely candidate for other clubs to want yet, if this is true, both of them are committing to the club in spite of the debacle of last season, that certainly reassures me that however weary of it all we may be the players seem to have confidence in the future.

He really isn't though...

No he really is, Eunice is nowhere close to the player he was pre injury, Chiriches is nowhere close yet to being a PL starter, Verts much as I rate him when he's up for it not a very good player when he's not.

In the clamour of some to sell Dawson I think they are losing sight of the fact that our other CB options are worse, save Verts when he's in the mood.

There are better CB's out there, but we haven't signed any yet and if we want to offload one or two before bringing them in we should be getting rid of our weakest ones first

We also need to think carefully about the lack of character, desire and leadership in the squad. It was so apparent last season that we were badly lacking in these and getting rid of one of the few players that has those strengths would be foolish

Looks like this window we are actually getting players to commit to the club instead of selling them! Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro and Eriksen are players we need and so far so good. I do think Sandro will leave and I don't think after 1 season Eriksen will be offered/accept a new contract but nonetheless good intent from the club so far (y)

OK, will do in future- I just didn't want to put loads of JJ's tweetings in here because I thought people would think I was just posting them for the sake of it.
