FRom Prof on COYS on Adebayor (apologies if posted already)

Galahad hears that we're paying the approximately 150kpw in wages and thereby breaking/smashing our wage structure, which DL is using as a reason to keep the fee as low as possible.

Some might conclude that increasing our wage ceiling by so much points to impending outside investment. Some might conclude that DL playing hardball over a couple of million points in the opposite direction.

The former surely

150k wages on a capacity of 36k and no investment is Peter Ridsdale style financial insanity, no way would levy do that unless we were getting bankrolled

We don't have a 'wage structure' or 'wage ceiling', as Prof ought to know.

£100k a week is plausible. £150k a week isn't.

Somehow I get the impression that even if we were taken over by a consortium of all the oil rich Arab's, Saudi's and Qatari's under the sun if DL stayed on as chairman he'd still spend his days and nights playing brinkmanship with other club chairmen. It's what he does.

"Last year was the first year in recent times that Tottenham made it so public that they wanted to go for the title but you also have to agree with me that Harry [Redknapp] was in and out of that quotation," Villas-Boas said. "It's very well to promote yourself to the title and to quit the week after. Not that this is a criticism but if we really want to go for it, this is something we have to assume from the start.
"It is a proposition I put to the players on the first day that we met. We would like to assume this responsibility, not to put more pressure on ourselves but because it goes along with what we are trying to build at this club. We are trying to put together a squad that makes us compete for the title."
Not ITK but interesting quotes, especially about Harry being 'in and out' or going for the title. Exciting times indeed.

I just can't see us paying Ade £150k pw and what's more if I am honest I don't know if he is worth £150k pw. Surely if we are moving into that sort of bracket in wage paying terms there are better options for us?

Unless you have more money than sense, like City, he isn't. I simply don't believe this info.

I am less than convinced by this 150k thing anyway

If there is a 150k wage available offer it to Modric he would sign up in a heartbeat

Plus if Ade was really offered 150k Levy can surely expect a knock on his office door from bale demanding the same, 100k sounds more realistic

Spot on.

Harry beginning of the season "making the top four will be diifficult"
At Xmas "We can win the title, it's not impossible"
Around March "Our aim is to finish 3rd"
At the end of the season "If you had given me fourth at the beginning of the season I would have taken that all day"

Yep. I can well believe we'll give him ~100K, maybe a few thosand more but with his signing bonus taken into account it will be higher. Even then, uness his signing bonus is say £10m over a 4 yr contract (and how plausible does that sound FFS?) £150K just isn't happening. And if it was and we had backing, let's go for a real big gun and throw the £10m signing bonus, plus the £5m-£7m we're quoted as looking to pay to citeh and whatever is left over from the Luka sale -minus the money spent on his replacement and goes balls out for a Falcao or someone.

Just complete bullshit. Or at least I hope it is. Levy will have gone bat-shit insane if there's any truth in this. As in, get him sectioned pronto crazy.

EDIT. £10m signing on bonus, not £20m.

I cannot see Levy paying a player aged 28, £150k pw. That's close to £8m a year. The minimum contract would be 3 years. That's a 24m (+ fee £5m) = £30m commitment with chance of recouping much minimal.

If he's getting 150k either Lewis is paying it (almost as unlikely) , we have a new investor or ManC are paying 50-75k a week.

AVB is saying what we were saying last season and the season before under 'Arry. The "they've never had it so good" quote comes to mind when we were competing in the Champion's League, but then struggled to overcome a weak Sunderland side in the PL - just weeks after 'Arry was talking about us competing for the title.

AVB GETS IT!!! Finally a manager/coach that see's it as the supporters see it!!!

Where did that quote come from ?
