Deeney scores a freaky amount of penalties.

I think in his top scoring season, when he hit 13, only 7 were from open play. Last season he only scored 5 from open play.

From a scouting and potential transfer perspective, counting goals scored by penalties is a bit pointless. I'm sure we'd all trust Sonny, Kane and Lucas etc from the spot.

Everton once paid a big fee for Andy Johnson, after he scored 10 pens in one season!
If Man Utd had signed Deeney instead of Ighalo, he could have been the PL top scorer :ROFLMAO:

Wilson has scored fewer goals than Deeney in the same number of seasons. Is that not proof that he's a less prolific CF?
He may score less goals on average, but there’s other parts of his game which make him a better option than Deeney.

He wouldn't be my first choice signing and I doubt he'd be Mourinho's either. However, if we're simply after a stop-gap for one season, with the intention of bringing Parrott back into the first team next season, it actually makes some sense.

Is 10 goals & 2 assists in 27 games terrible? We're going to struggle to sign a better back-up to Kane, as the best players will want to start.

Aside from scoring about 1 in 3, which is not prolific but reasonable (Rashford and Martial had never bettered that until this season, yet were considered good enough for Man United), he's good at roughing up defenders and creating space for others. He could offer something similar to Heskey, who's contributions were underappreciated by most. If Kane isn't playing, he might allow our wingers / AMs to play more effectively than when we have Moura / Son upfront.
We shouldn’t be looking for a stop gap for one season and then bring parrot back, no one knows at what rate parrot will improve and best case he does improve he’s an academy youth product so he can come back into the squad as a homegrown place but we absoloutley need a top quality back up to kane.

when Kane broke through he still had to get past soldado adebeyor and others I think.

to sign Deeney (no pace) as a 1 season stop gap would sum up our ambition if so. No more fucking around on this one.

Deeney, who absolutely lives and breathes Watford (as the club who stuck by him when he was in prison) also thrives on his leadership role as club captain. At his age, and stage in his career, I would gobsmacked if he suddenly chose to throw that all away to be a bench option ( even at a club like ours).
A bit like Danny Ings (and, it must be said, Wilfred zaha), he’s carved out a career being a big fish in a slightly smaller pond.
He really doesn’t suit our needs either. We need a player who can play instead of, and, at times, alongside Kane.
As someone suggested, to bin off signings such as Ze Luis, Willian Jose, piatek and giroud, just to enable us to line up Troy Deeney (6 months later) sounds more than far fetched.
I just don’t think this is the answer (great guy as I think he is btw)

Soldado and Adebayour were not top quality the season Kane broke into the team - they scored only 3 league goals between them and we were desperate to upgrade them both.

I’d prefer Wilson over him but tbh I ain’t really fussed! Nobody who’s top notch is coming here to play second fiddle to Harry! We obviously rate Troy but he is out on loan for the season and hopefully he will pick up some mins. For me an inexpensive striker who’s happy to sit on the bench right now for us is very important. We can’t stifle Troy’s progress to the first team if he’s good enough. Wilson is my preference but I’d take either

That's subjective and what I've seen of the two of them hasn't convinced me of it. I don't particularly want either of them, but either would be better than no one.

I'm not against Deeney, but we could've avoided having to sign him had we committed to signing a forward in January, which might've saved our European (and domestic) campaign.

I’m against this move. It’s not that I have anything against the idea of signing Deeney per se, but again I have an issue with the club’s approach to squad building.

If we don’t qualify for the 21/22 Champions League there’s a good chance Kane will want to leave. It makes far more sense to bring in a young, ambitious and improving striker to play a vital role within the squad this season - and not only as a “back up”. Then, if Kane leaves, we already have someone that could potentially take up the baton, rather than scrapping around for a replacement whilst being held to ransom. Strength in depth plus contingency in one.

People who could fit the bill include Edouard, Jonathan David, Osimhen (already gone), Malen.

More expensive now? Yes. In the long run? Probably not.

Edouard for me. Too many big clubs after David and Malen is broken lol

Oh. Ok.

It’s using the mouth or tongue to remove ejaculate from an orifice, generally the back one.

Hopefully this shows my distaste for having Troy bloody Deeney meandering around our pitch. Whoever he is playing for.

It certainly does and I’ve learned something today which I’ll probably never forget!!

I know many people were pro Callum wilson but imo its quite embarrassing were scraping the bits if a barrel, this is even worse, i didnt think we could get any lower, but it seems we can. Tbf Deeney has some qualities reminiscent of llorente by that i mean just a strong big target man / holdup play, which tbf we sort of need as a diff option but was hoping for sometging better than Deaney... ps the fact he is a die hard scum fan ?

It’s probably just paper talk as it’s odd that we’ve gone from Osimhen:playful: - Milik:) - Wilson:bored: - Deeney:hungover:.

I really hope this is just an agent trying to create some hype for his client.

if its true... then it has to be a called a covid signing. someone cheap who can do a job if needed, a short term, low-cost solution.

I really couldn’t care about his fan allegiances but I would definitely take it with a pinch of salt.

He's a Birmingham City fan, not that it matters.
