One that can't afford to go these days, so I suppose crushing disappointment from a distance is better than crushing disappointment in yer face!! Does that make me slightly optimistic in some way?!!!! I'm confused now!!!

Snap but my grandads dad was also a spurs fan.
My dad was a glory hunting Spurs fan in the 60's

He came from Ireland and grew up a stones throw from Loftus road in Shepherd's bush, his dad was a season ticket holder at QPR and took my dad to the odd game as a very young kid, but I suppose in the 60's we were the Man U team (having won the double and then signed Greaves etc) and my dad jumped ship as a team and supported Spurs

My mum's dad however was also Spurs as was his dad, we used to all go to games together once I was about 6 (my dad, my granddad and I)

So I basically had Tottenham thrust upon me from all angles

You ever go for a job interview where you're pretty sure that they've made some sort of adminstartion error and you've accidentally been chosen as a possible candidate. You spruce yourself up in the morning, have a shave, polish your shoes and trot along to the interview equal parts giddish nerves and trepidation and then, having sat down at the table facing three stoney faced interview panalists realise that you're completely out of your depth and more than likely going to acheive nothing more than making a dreadful cock of yourself once you open your mouth and spurt out incoherent nonsense.

And once the interview has ended and you have indeed illustrated without any degree of uncertainty that you were quite clearly not the right guy for the job, what with your possible brain damage, you take stock and realise it was a silly thing for those daft few moments to even contemplate that you stood a chance of landing that job in the first place so finally you relax, snug again once more in your comfort blanket of distinct mediocracy - that's the sort of Spurs fan I am.

Ha, this made me smile. Identify!

Yeah, it's a bit inward-looking, but I consider myself fairly balanced. Get carried away from time to time, but overall think I know our role in things. That grounds you. Whether you want to be grounded in something that's a release from the humdrum of the daily grind is a very personal decision, though.

I'm definitely not as "in" to football as I once was, though. It's losing me as a consumer, to use its parlance. This may have affected how kneejerk or reactive I am, as I feel I don't get caught up in the moment as I once did. During the game, sure, but almost immediately it subsides now, whereas it used to make/ruin my weekend/week/month.

I love Spurs and the FA Cup, but I don't really love football, it's all a bit predictable now, and I can see only too starkly where we sit in the whole stinky business. It's like that moment in The Matrix when he just sees the code. Football is code. I just watch it for the glitches. Maybe that's why I love Spurs - we're king of the glitches.

All of the above.
Yep and many more responses from depression to smug satisfaction
that I predicted it all anyway.
It depends on why things went 'a bit wrong'.
Much deeper question than the responses allow.
Only one is negative
Spurs fans are much more inventive and variable than that.
We are the maestros of negative response.
It's the constant practice that does it.

I think what makes some fans sick in the stomach now, not everyone but most and definitely me, is that we GOT top four. Not once but fkin twice. And we were playing some of the best football in the league, best we'd seen for years and the WE shot ourselves in the foot.
Thats why its so hard.
Liverpool were wobbling and still are.
Man U went backwards.
Arsenal constantly moaning about Wenger.
And we didn't back Harry but sacked him despite his success and 36000 real fans singing we want you to stay. Fans that actually go to games and could see the fluidity of the movement off the ball.
I watched Man U come to WHL and camp in their own half, shit scared to come out.
It was a real opportunity to cement a top 4 spot and we imploded big style.
Was a great time. New stadium coming, Harry getting players to play for him and really buy into the team.
And then splat... Redknapp sacked... WHAT??? VdV gone... Nooo!!!.... AVB appointed.. WTF???
Dismantled everything Harry achieved in about 6mths and we're still recovering.
I know this isn't how everyone sees it but thats how I see it so suck my balls lol.

Stay positive is my response. I've been a Spurs fan for nigh on 57 years and as a teenager/young man got to see the best of Spurs during the 60's and early 70's before heading out to Central America in 1975. Spurs as I've said before has been the one real continuity in my life and it's been an amazing journey over the years but none match the heady heights of the Blanchflower led teams. Today my eldest daughter and her two children continue the tendency from Atlanta, Georgia and if everything works out then next year I'll fly to the US and we'll travel as a family to the UK so that I can show my grandchildren my old stomping grounds while taking in a couple of Spurs games.

I'm only 25, so many if you have supported spurs longer than I have been alive, but I have developed a way to say excited/positive about Spurs.

I accept that without a sugar daddy forking out for huge transfers and ridiculous wages challenging for the league and anything other than an occasional cup/champs league appearance is a pipe dream.

The simple fact with the EPL is that at the end of the day it comes down to having money and spending it, titles can effectively be purchased, at the very least you can guarantee challenge.

My solution, take every game as a match day experience. Rather than get caught up in the grand scheme, I focus on the next opponent, what lineup we select, who might score for spurs etc. The rise of the young guns this year was really enjoyable. Every individual game I was excited watching the progression of Kane, Mason, Bentaleb and Rose.

Find small goals, progressions to follow and enjoy the ride until the big $$$$ come in that enable us to be a top 4.

Supported Spurs for 55 years and spent the last 40 of them shrugging !
But it is a special " We are Spurs " shrug.

Pessimistic as all hell, but there wasn't really an option for it.

Like, I know we'll probably bugger it all up, but I've come to peace with it.

The sado-masochistic sort that's been doing it for near on 50 years. However at least I have memories of something special to keep me going these days.

Blind fans...

Sorry, but he fucked it totally, throwing a 10 point gap away... And it was never his tactics, but rather a heavy reliance on the quality of player we had at the time...
