Surely it simply HAS to be David O'Leary?

That man definitely knows his way around a transfer or two. Yes yes we could go for someone with a certain level of tactical nouse and coaching ability, but O'Leary knew how to throw the cash and throw it hard and isn't that, ultimately, the only thing we Spurs fans care about?

CL qualification:shrug:

FAIL:wink:

Got to be Mourinho if we can afford him.

Gus Hiddink would be amazing too

Also wonder if Rijkaard would suit us?

People seem to have a fetish for managers who play dour, dull football. we might as well bring Graham back with some of these suggestions.

If you are referring to Jose, then I think you are going on stereotype. I think Jose will employ a certain style for certsin games, but he certainly has the ability to set up an attacking team full of flair. For me, Mourinho is the best manager in the world at setting his team up in the right way for each specific game and the tactical challenge it poses.

Actually, I'm referring to the wingaphobes that are Hiddink and Van Gaal.

Excellent, I did wonder as you are usually more astute than that

Ha, no don't worry, Mourinho had an unfair rep in this country. His Chelsea side scored well and used players like Cole, Duff and Robben very well, while Lampard isn't exactly a war horse and Essien, back then anyway, was quite attack minded.

The Dutch, or at least this generation of Dutch managers, seem to have a bit of an aversion to style and flair, be it Maarwijk with his kill or be killed approach to the world cup final, Hiidink with his 'effective' Chelsea side who we inflicted their first defeat of his tenure, Van Gaal with his Rivaldo hatred or even Jol with his deployment of players like Tainio and Brown out wide.

Also, for all the hiddink love, do you know what he has won in domestic management? Several dutch titles with PSV and one Champions League with them to over 20 years ago, and an Intercontinental Cup with Real Madrid, whatever the hell that is, and the FA Cup with Chelsea. I.E, a bit like Scolari, you take him away from his own country or International management and he's got nothing impressive on his CV.

Van Gaal is actually a fair bit better, he won consecutive La Liga's with Barca, he had that wonderful young Champions League winning Ajax side which could have dominated Europe for a decade if it had stayed together, and last years Bundesliga too. I just hate how he forced out Rivaldo in 2001 when Rivaldo had just had a magnificent season and single handedly dragged Barca into the Champions League. It stunk of Grahams treatment of Ginola.

Owen Coyle. Would be a risk but I like how he sets his teams out and has done well within the bounds of what he has had to work with at Burnley and Bolton.

Not experienced enough

When Utd took on Fergie he had already won the SPL, when Scum took on Wenger he was internationally respected, when Chelsea took on Mourinho he had won UEFA and CL

Coyle has no experience of the sharp end or of Europe

He will be perfect for someone like Everton, not us

Martin Jol! It was great to hear Mourhino highlight how he started the good work that Harry has continued!

Why could anyone possibly want Jol back? Yeah, he started the good work for us but he is largely untested in the transfer markert and he is tactically inferior to Redknapp.

If Levy could bring in Mourinho for a few seasons before Fergie retires that would set us up wonderfully for the future.
