That's probably because we've been a CL team once in over 40 years

So, our academy is producing talent good enough to hold their own in the Uefa cup, which we've been in considerably more than we have the Champions League.

They probably won't improve our team, but they'd do a job in a mid table premier league team and would therefore just about generate enough transfer fees to pay for their footballing education.

As for tonight, well I was expecting a tonking, so am relieved it was only a one goal defeat, even if that was more down to Carlo than anyone else.

Agree with this, in a nutshell. Thought we might get beat by 3 or 4. We didn't. Bonus!

Qualification is still well in our sights and in our own hands. If we don't beat at least one of PAOK or Shamrock (did you see what I did there?) then we want a good shagging and deserve to go out.

Thought Tom Carroll was the pick of our outfield players today. He's potentially a very good footballer.

1-0 isn't that bad a result, we're level with Rubin with identical head to heads, we just need to beat PAOK and Shamrock and end up with a better goal difference than Rubin and we win the group...

Problem is we could not end up with a result with either of those with this makeshift team. I don't see them scoring to many goals and with gallas now gone that leaves us with Livermore and bassong at the back-:(

I can see us not getting out of the group. Poak beat rovers very easy tonight and will be trouble at the lane. Shamrock rovers will be desperately looking for a point at least in there last game at home, so for me I could see poak and Rubin going on to the next stage

Real question is does Harry really care. Looking at the bench tonight, I think not, is he right, probably:)

Why did we play 442 against a team that plays a kind of 4231/451 away form home ?

Why is Pav made of cardboard ?

There, you see, you've answered your own question, albeit with another one. We established at least two years ago that Pav arguably has fewer of the qualities required to play the lone striker role than Defoe, although for what use Pav was tonight we might as well have played Defoe on his own. He at least made an effort on the odd occasion he got the ball, and if Pav hadn't been half-asleep might have created an opener for us.

I'm mystified by some of the reactions on here. How many times have most of the team tonight played against opposition of this calibre? What on earth were some people expecting?

Yeah I know... Perhaps I'm expecting too much and want a bunch of "the next Kings" out there.

But tbh, no one has shone or stood out. And it's frustrating not because I'm expecting us to have a world-class academy, but because we should be doing so much better. I don't see us taking any risks on youth players or buying young quality that will get us more money or value in the long term, I don't see a good academy, and the biggest thing is I don't see ambition with us. What we SHOULD be doing to compete with the Citys, Chelseas, Liverpools of the world is buying cheap, young, taking risks on potential like the Udinese, Porto, or Palermo format.

Where's our Bales, Dawsons, Lennons, BAEs, Huddlestones for this generation? Say what you want about Commoli but those were all his signings and now they're valuable players for us. I don't see anyone coming up (perhaps Caulker, Carroll looks to have a bit of potential and it's too early to give up on Townsend) but other than that I'm hugely disappointed.

Then again, I'm not a scout or a manager or a youth coach. But to me it just seems we could and should be doing a lot better.

Same, literally draw dropping in some cases...

thats an odd thing to say when that is clearly what we have been doing and what levy's policy is

Poak beat rovers very easy tonight and will be trouble at the lane.

A weaker Spurs team than fielded tonight held PAOK in front of their baying home fans, and at the Lane we will have first teamers on the bench to make sure the job gets done.

You do not send a team of kids and convalescents to Rubin Kazan and expect a result, and this was always a game we could afford to lose.

Comolli didn't sign Lennon, Dawson or Huddlestone. BAE and Bale were signed for the first team squad, not the academy.

Really? My memory is worse than I thought.

Sorry, also I think I stated my point wrong: I was not a fan of Comolli himself but I am a fan of signing potential. And once he left, that stopped...

Wasn't Natcho's free kick terrific ?

How did he get it over the wall and to drop in such a short distance ?

Did you see the bend on it , it looked like it was going in the centre of the goal until it pulled round into the side netting .

Well done to all our lads too , Harry Kane appears to be able to hold the ball up , bit disappointed with Pav , his heart doesn't appear to be in it any more .

Why not? Also this summer we signed Cristian Ceballos, we have additionally recently brought in Massimo Luongo and the Croatian Gomelt. We are reportedly after the two young Barca defenders.

IMO, the truth is the complete opposite of what you state.

Edit: I neglected to mention the likes of Walker and Sandro who have already made the step up to the first team squad. Kyle Naughton is also a good prospect.
