It was quite telling that when the last thing we needed was more inexperienced lads on the pitch Pav was substituted with an 18 year old. Kev and Joe were obviously deeply unimpressed.

Personally I think Falque looks more promising than Townsend. At least he looks like he has half a brain. I'm not saying he's overly impressed me but I'd sooner retain him than Townsend on the off chance.

I agree Falque has done some good things in the couple of games I have seen him, need to see more of him though and see him play in a full strength team before passing judgement on him. Whether he will get this opportunity though well who knows.

I think your a bit unfair on Townsend, he clearly isnt a left back but in his proper position he can take players on and beat them. I was hoping we would push him up to left wing yesterday just to stretch their defence a bit and give us some pace in the final third but it didnt happen. He has the raw attributes, things such as his crossing and picking the right option can be coached and worked on as he develops and plays more games.

Actually thought Townsend, if he is played as a winger, can be quite effective.

Very pacy, knows how to take a man on, and he appears to be two-footed as I've seen him hit a rocket right-footed but then play on the left. IMO he needs another loan, perhaps Swansea or Norwich or Wigan if it's PL, or maybe a good Championship side, because he's got top 4 potential.

I've seen him a few times now (Townsend), and whilst he has some raw talent, he's never going to be more than a Matty Etherington is he ?

Im prepared to give him more time to develop his all-round game and then make a judgement. As has been suggested a loan to a Prem club in January would be beneficial if someone will take him and give him gametime.

Even if he only gets to Etherington standard (ie. mid to low Prem Club) and isnt quite good enough for us, we should make a few million on him, so either way we wont do too badly.

Sorry you'd rather have Falque at RM than Townsend at LB/LM? Is that even a one of the other scenario?

Townsend is not a LB in the same way Lennon is not a RB and Hudd is not a CB.

I think Townsend needs to be given a good run at LM in these Europa games, then make a decision.

I can remember one Christiano Ronaldo showing a lot of raw talent, combined with piss poor decision making, when he first turned out for Utd.

One trick pony was the label he got iirc.

Townsend, from what I have seen of him, shows enough to make me think that, with the right coaching and patience, can be more than just a 'decent' EPL player.

Not for one minute am I suggesting he'd be the next Ronaldo, but I reckon he'll be far more than a Matty Etherington.

Who is pants BTW.

I was really impressed with Falque and he looks like a very promising player.

Anyone know what his situation is?
Is he on loan for the season or do we have an option to buy?

We have option to buy but I haven't seen anything from him yet that makes that likely.

He has a right to say that he is not treated fairly, he has not been given a decent run of games for the last year and a half. He was just unlucky that the free kick he conceded resulted in a goal, obviously for the experts here that is enough to nullify all the good plays he did in the game, considering he was part of a makeshift back 4.

No, no, no. Just no. No.
