Good luck Luka. For those of us who grew up on Dozzel and Cundy - rather than Hoddle and Ossie - it was a pleasure to watch you play for Spurs, it really was.

I wonder what Ledely would have done has his knee injuries not limited his options and the likes of Barca or Real come calling?

Personally I think more often than not a player is only as loyal as his options.

If the big guns hadn't come in for Luka he'd be working away and we'd all be saying what a loyal hero he is, If Real had come in for Ledley in his prime and we blocked his dream move I would suggest things might have been different too

I think Luka will be a sensation at Madrid, I am not sure what the point of this partnership deal is. I am not sure what Levy is doing, he's the chairman not the DOF, anyway 4 odd days to go before the window slams shut.... I think this period will tell us everything we need to know about Levy's ambition for our club.

I hope we don't spend any more time chasing our tails with players we have no chance of signing or making stupidly low offers for players that will never be accepted and only serve to potentially sour relationships and make a selling club more reluctant to deal with us.

As we stand I feel weaker than last year, less cover up top and a Luka sized hole in midfield....moves simply must be made before the window shuts, will be very interesting to see what they are.

Good post and fair enough.

Totally agree. We're a weaker squad than last season imo, Luka is a massive loss and our striking options are weak. As it stands I think we're fighting for 5th.

Lol he ain't taking Alonso's place full time

Marcotti and some respectable journo (I think) were talking about this last week. Marcotti couldn't figure out what they wanted him for. The journo said he'd be ideal cover for Alonso, that he might actually play alongside Alonso and that he could also slot into an attacking midfield role. It's going to be interesting.

As it stands most of our rivals have brought in someone of real quality

Arsenal have Corzola and have lost RVP which will bring them down but Poldoski and Giroud will soften the blow and with Chamberlain another year experienced their striking options won't be as badly affected as we may hope. Song is perhaps a loss, but their midfield is always strong and the way they retain possession will see in them and around the CL places still I feel, even last year as a one man band they managed to get top 3 some how and I think over all they will be stronger this year (although so will others)

Chelsea have added real quality, Hazard looks fantastic and Torres will finally show his true form now he is settled as the main guy I think. I expect them to be contesting the league with the Manchester outfits not battling us for a CL spot.

Liverpool have added Allen and Sahin who both appear to be great players. Suarez is looking better and better and they will be better than last year and a threat to us for the fourth spot too.

I think the CL places this year will be more competitive than ever

I don't think our business is done but it is scary that we have done so little this deep into the window. Adebayor in gives us what we had last year but with only Defoe and Kane as other options we need to buy at least one more up top and Luka has to be replaced, ok Parker will come back and Sandro will be better, Van Der Vaart and SIg will hopefully give us goals from midfield but we have lost quality cover in Niko and somehow still not managed to shift Bentley or Jenas.....the fact is without Luka we are weaker, something most be done to offset the impact of his loss and playing Livermore and Jenas in the middle is not that.

I think we are in good shape at the back but could use a keeper upgrade or at least will need to do so in the near future. We have good wingers but little depth there so at least one wide player is needed.

The luka deal today is welcome news because hopefully it will kick start our own activity. A striker, a winger, a luka replacement and a keeper would what we need to move forward, somehow I can't see all that happened, at least not with the type of quality we would desire.

Biggest 4 days for a long time and this really feels like a pivotal moment, surely we have to back the new manager? can't be expecting him to take us forward with a weaker squad than last year...can we?

Anything can happen, Berbatov for Campbell!

I am not suggesting it will be as bad as that, but we have had some surprises with Levy. Good and bad.

Maybe you're right, but that view is still based on supposition. We will never know what would have happened had Ledley remained fit, but likewise we can only form opinions on what actions people have ultimately decided to take.

Regardless of whether people would have done the same, Luka has acted like a little brat from the moment other clubs were interested in him. It seems to be happening an awful lot these days, with players refusing to play or just disrespecting the club in order to get what they want. However there are plenty of other examples where players don't act like that and continue to give their all for the club, while a transfer is sorted out.

I'll always admire his ability and what he added to the team, but i won't go overboard and say he was the best player I've ever seen play for us, and I wont hold him in any high regard.

He's just another name that once played for us.

I'd be surprised if its that high. As it stands I'm expecting the top 6 to be some combination of city, united, Chelsea, arsenal, everton and either newcastle or Liverpool. I'd expect us to be in the chasing pack of the odd one out of the above, fulham, stoke and a couple of others.

I'm not being negative either, I just don't think we've got the team this year and others have strengthened, some massively like Chelsea. I dont have any presumption that we should be any higher than that though so I'm not disappointed (though obviously if we were outside the top 8 I would consider that a disappointment).

I'm more interested in the new stadium and the implementation of the FFP rules than any short-term league position.

I won't be wishing him luck, purely for his behaviour during the chelsea transfer saga, even if he is a class player.

He ain't fit to lick Ledley King's boots.

Whilst I agree with your sentiments, bit disappointed in you rather pointlessly rating sasa_moto's post as 'old'

I'm hoping it's due to you using your Iphone and there being problems with giving ratings using it rather then being a tad mean...

Feels kinda weird that he's finally gone really lol.

Whilst I'm annoyed at him and his quite frankly appalling behaviour, he certainly won't be getting my best wishes due to that, I do also find myself frustrated that I feel we've wasted something here.

Once we qualified for the Champions League we really really REALLY should have gone out there and got ourselves a couple of class forwards.

Players like Defoe who just don't suit us anymore due to their limitations in playing style should have been shipped out.

We really could have pushed on and established ourselves as top three challengers and maybe Modric wouldn't have been so anxious to jump ship.

Maybe he did just want the coins though, we'll never really know though as we did make it easier for him to cite lack of ambition.

The years we've spent with below-par forward options is quite frankly attrocious, especially when you see Newcastle snapping up the likes of Ciise and West Ham Ba before Newcastle also got him (Spurs King is so gonna love me for mentioning them two lol).

Gutted he wanted to go. Champions League is vital to keeping our best players.

The fee is surprising low considering today's market. The arrangement with Madrid is bizarre.

Expect Bale to go next

I don't watch Real much, where's he going to play for them? In a 3 with Alonso and Ozil?
Last night it was exactly that with Lass Diarra, I imagine he'll take that spot. A lot of competition for that spot though, that's pressure from the off.

Bye Bye Luka...pity you had to behave in such a way that you are leaving as a great player who played for Spurs and not as a great Spurs player - all you had to do was get your head down and do what you were paid for while the adults negotiated. Could have been leaving us with a farewell gift of a couple of wins to start our season, as we surely needed you. For that reason I don't particularly wish you well, unless it is to our benefit financially that you succeed (y)

Very interested in this latest club partnership, which Daniel must have pushed for as part fo the deal. I know his way fo doing business grates but he really knows how to use these type of things to imrpove the club IMVHO.

p.s. Bobbins, we will be fine. We will fine some good players to take up the slack. I can live without us finishing top 4 this season, but think we will. Think the Goons are going to struggle for goals and both they and Chelsea still look fragile in defence. So, kinda expecting top 4 without demanding it.
