Listening to it on the wireless, sounded like their keeper was a man possessed - good luck to him, i was preparing myself for disappointment as the 90 minutes ticked by, just glad we sneaked a winner, even if it was a bit unfair on a guy who, evidently, had a superb game otherwise.

£26m for Soldado was about right. We got £85m for Bale so let's just thanks our lucky stars we did so well in the transfer game and just enjoy the football.

He made some good saves tbh but 90% of our shots were hit straight at him. Hey, he still had to deal with them so not knocking him but Kerist Almighty it was a bit distressing at times.

I thought our defence was a little exposed due to not having a true DM in the line up, so Verts looked even more under pressure as Naughton was a bit ropey. I was quite surprised Sandro didn't feature as Dembele seemed a bit wasted sitting deep, then he makes a run and we look a bit open.

Fantastic to get the win. Another clean sheet. Total dominance, by the sound of it. And great spirit to keep on going and score an added time winner. A real team bond and winning mentality developing, perhaps?

Wasn't able to see any of today's game so I thought I would read through some of this thread.

Only succeeded in reminding myself why I don't normally follow match threads.

Some of you.............I mean, really.

You need to have a word with yourselves.

I can only say that, if you're anything like that when you attend games, I hope that I don't have the misfortune to sit anywhere near you!

We destroyed them from the start though?

After their, to be expected, first 5min blast we ripped them a new one.. how did we get it wrong?

Because we were forced to play Naughton at LB we should have Townsend in front of him instead of Siggurdson. Siggurdson can be really effective from the left but he needs an attacking full-back behind him. That's why Siggy had such a good game last week, Rose was really effective at bossing that flank and so Gylfi could come inside and find goal-scoring opportunities. With a right footer doing that job it just doesn't work as they're less likely to want to overlap, so you really need a naturally left footed winger there who is willing to take that ball to the byline.

But we destroyed them from the start?

Thats not getting it wrong. The only thing wrong today was the scoreline.

I'm completely mystified by the multitude who keep insisting that we were 'lucky' to win today. It's just a bizarre, backwards notion of chance, luck, fortune or whatever you want to call it. Cardiff were hanging on through two or three continuous 10-15 minutes spells of Spurs pressure. I think they had one shot on target. We had about 25 shots and a lot of them were very good - they just got saved by a good goalkeeper having a great day. And we benefited from one of those refereeing decisions that are about acuity of vision and instant judgment, not about 'luck'. If we must discuss 'luck', then we were incredibly 'unlucky' not to be about 4-1 up by the 70th minute, which was when Cardiff started clawing their way back in the match.

They key point here is that this is what we just paid all that money for: players who have that extra focus and determination to break Cardiff's collective heart in the 93rd minute. Bale has it. Apparently, Paulinho, Lamela and Holtby also have it. Based on his previous 3 matches (because he was pretty anonymous today), Eriksen has it.

It's why players like Bale and Ronaldo and Drogba and Van Persie (and Scholes and Giggs and Gerrard) are worth so much: because they figure out how to get it done before the whistle goes, somehow. They find a way to win.

Cardiff ran their legs off, closed down like maniacs, tackled and organised and packed the box. Despite all that, they still had about 40% of the ball, made scarcely any chances, except those that we created for them through atypically slipshod defending, got the ball on target once and were so knackered by the 80th minute that we managed to get control of the game back, as soon as we stopped panicking and slashing the ball in all directions and resumed passing it calmly. Introducing a skilful dribbler (Lamela) and a high-energy attacking midfielder (Holtby) when Cardiff were on their next to last breath worked because they just couldn't keep holding out any longer and we had players on our bench who are every bit as good as the ones who had just spent 90 minutes playing rings around the opposition.

'Lucky?' We totally dominated the game. Even taking into account our dodgy/crazed moments, the accurate score for that game was about 6-2.
