If you read and understand the opening post, I am not saying he's a bad player, just that there are many others who are better.
Better at getting in the box and scoring goals? Name one!
Lets just list down who else can play one the left and you'll understand
Townsend has nailed down the RW spot, and it wont be changing anytime soon
1. Lennon. Lacks height, doesnt get into the box enough, doesnt score enough goals, cant cross with his left.
2. Holtby. Nope. We've seen him play there and hes not effective at all. A leftie but tends to drifts in instead of going wide, playing him on the left makes his extremely awkward. On top of that he played well at am last night so he should stay there
3. Lamela. Used to play on the left. Like the transfer rumour thread, if we are gonna get gaitan, i would rather use lamela the same way on the. He can give us the width we need and pump and crosses and through ball for soldado. Cons is that hes still unsettled, prefers to play on the right, dwells on the ball too much instead of moving the ball faster. If we need width, arguably he would be the best fit
4. Eriksen. Imo the best fit for the lw spot. Intitally it was a headache because eriksen is a traditional 10. Him and holtby are suppose to battle out for no.10 spot. His creativity, dribbling and ability to cut in and take a shot/pass makes him the best fit for LW spot imo. Siggy is kinda like the less talented, but slightly more hardworking version of eriksen.
If i was avb i will play
Soldado
Eriksen-holtby-townsend.
If we need width then either eriksen or holtby gets sub for lamela, with lamela going to the left. If we wants to stick with cutting inside then sig in for either, morning to the left.
Vice versa, if i want width on the right then lennon on the right, if i want to keep cutting in then lamela sub for townsend.
In the perfect world i would love a player thats truly comfortable player on the left, and is right footed, basically willian-esque.
If we cant, our options are still incredibly deep. I dont think siggy is surplus to the requirement. He gives us the set piece threat when eriksen is out, except i feel that he shouldnt be starting. He should be behind eriksen at the LW spot. The biggest asset sig has over eriksen though, is his effort for tracking back. But still, i would start eriksen over him on the lw spot.
Siggy had been doing a decent job for the past few games, but the moment avb tries eriksen on left with holtby in the middle, trust me he will not go back
I'd probably best describe him as an attacking midfielder who can hit one from range and has pretty decent movement.
It's a strange one because there are better players than him. Simple. He scores the occasional goal and he's a pretty tidy player but he isn't a playmaker or a winger. I'd probably best describe him as an attacking midfielder who can hit one from range and has pretty decent movement. That's about it. He isn't bad but i'd sooner have Townsend, Lamela, Chadli, Eriksen or Lennon over him in that left wing spot.
I will take effective over exciting, every day of the week. Having been a Spurs Fan for over 50 years, I've seen too many exciting sides that, apart from a cup run here or there. Flatter to deceive. I would be more than happy to have a boring season, finish top 3 and win the Europa League. I suspect 95% of you would probably agree with me.AVB is essentially cautious and this applies to the selection of players.
Our playing style shows this; the introduction of Lloris shows it too.
Chiriches is slowly working his way in.
Siggy works hard scores goals etc as the OS acknowledges.
AVB has possibly better players who haven't yet settled or proved themselves.
so he sticks with players who have done OK.
It's a bit like rock climbing, don't let go until you have a secure new handhold.
Holtby for Eriksen was another example yesterday.
Best start in the Prem. 3 points off top, 4th consecutive away clean sheet.
Soldado 's first open play Prem goal.
It seems to be working.
It's not exciting but it is effective.

We should pick the first 11 based on how much they cost. Failing that reputation.
